Stool softner or miralax worked for me for a few years I would discuss this w your doctor and get suggestions. I would let your doc know how painful it is. Narcotics can cause it but so can endo on your bowel.

For the last week I have been in agony with my bowel. It's the same pain I always have but it's never been this bad when I don't have my period. It's like I can feel where the 'not right bit' is (I assume the endo).
It's like when you have a bad cut, you can feel where it is, but then there's throbbing around it. That's what it feels like in my bowel if that makes sense - except the 'cut' feels really big and the throbbing is really painful and goes all across my left side and all down my leg. I'm also going to the toilet about 8 times a day which is really painful.

For me it was constipation before my period, it seemed to ease off once it started. A couple of years ago I started getting pain after bm's. Like lots of needles being shoved up my backside. Almost reduced me to tears and I had to take ibuprofen to get rid of it. The gastro doc put me on Amitryptilene, wand after a few months the pain went. I still get the odd twnge but it's never cone back as bad as it was.

I still have them. I think its gonna always be like this and I have so many movements now with the dumping syndrome frome galbladder surgery that its a few times a day now. I'm not going to take meds for it but I think if a med works go for it.

I've had really painful bowel movements the past few days. It's ridiculous how much it hurts and I find it embarrassing too. I'm so glad we have this place where we can talk about this stuff and know we aren't alone. I plan on eating a lot of fruit tonight. That usually helps.

Most of my bowel movements are painful which is not very pleasant. The mornings are the worst, I have a lot of painful gas which in itself is embarrassing and it takes 10-15 minutes to go to the toilet then, I have to get up a bit earlier these days!!
I find that keeping my diet healthy helps keeps the pain down when having bowel movements. I also have that stabbing pain and never feel like I've really gone to the toilet even when I've just been.
Paint, I am so grateful I can talk about this stuff on here and you guys actually understand what I mean when I say 'stabbing pain', we are not alone!!!

I get pain now too, this is only been happening for a month at most, and its got nothing to do with my cycles, it just happens whenever i guess lol. i dont have periods right now (lupron). and i have terribly painful bm's, ot every time, just sometimes, and when they are painful there's blood on the paper, no where else. i've been very embarrassed to talk about it with anyone, so i don't know if i should be concerned or not? this is why i love you guys, i can tell you anything

Whilst it's not necessarily a major cause for panic, any kind of bleeding from the back passage is cause for concern, so I would mention it to a doc. I had it for a long time, before my lap. On and off since my teens. At one time it was put down to piles but I'm not convinced of that. If the bm's are painful it might be from a small tear or scratch. But yeah, mention it to a doc x

It's always good to see your doc when that happens. I have two different types of bleeding - one is dark blood and sometimes clots (only once so far) - this I assume is the endo as this only happens during my period. The other is bright red and I think this is probably piles or a tear inside from when I'm straining etc.

If I could call in a quick favor, ladies.....
I have a tentative endo diagnosis (no lap yet, but this is what we've narrowed it down to). For the past month I've had to take pain meds (ibuprofen and Tylenol 3) more often than I'd like to admit. I have the wonderful constipation alternating with loose bowels that many of you describe, but the problem I have now is new, and getting worse all the time. :-(
I've tried not taking painkillers for a few days (if I keep my activity levels low enough, it's doable) and have been drinking LOTS of liquid to keep things moving. I also eat lots of salad and not too much white bread, so I don't think it's lack of fiber! However, I am officially "stopped up." My last sizable BM was almost 4 days ago, and the little ones since then have been VERY painful, directly over the area of my left ovary. No blood in the stool, no pain out the rear hole, just pain over the ovarian area on the left.
I'm bloated and gassy and feeling pretty poorly right now (my abdomen is tight like a drum!), but I don't dare take any pain meds for fear of making the problem worse. I can feel gas pushing through the spot by where my pain is, and when it does, it causes a spike in the pain.
Anyway, I would love to have a good BM and just get it all out of my system. Without knowing what my insides look like, what is the safest/gentle stool softener/laxative I can take to get things moving again?
I wish wish WISH I knew what was going on. :-( For those who haven't read my intro thread, I'm waiting on a second opinion/specialist appt.
