I am getting one too! I was at the pain management doc yesterday and they ordered one for me. The ins won't cover it for pelvic pain (go figure) so i can't get the little one, but shes putting it through for my back pain... i guess the ins is going to rent it for a month and then if i like it they will buy it for me. its going to be a 4 lead unit so it can be used in mulitple places at once. I am meeting the rep sometime soon and he is going to show me how to use it for my legs, my back, and my belly.... i am so excited i cant wait!!

id like to say so, it gets rid of the really bad cramps, like the omg i need to lay on the floor pain, i just crank it up really high until the pain dispurses, which takes a couple minutes but i am able to walk around while doing so. yay!! when i have mild pain i leave it at a comfortable level for about an hour or so and then im good for about 3 hours before i have to turn it on again.

My PT sent me home today with the same TENS unit as jjuls22's. Wonderful - and what a relief! Where do you put the contacts when you have the bad menstrual pain, jjuls22?

So I keep looking at this thread, and I know its an old one and there is another thread just like it mentioned earlier... BUT I'm so tired of the horrid reaction I'm having to my narcs. The pain level since this last surgery has been so bad that even the percoset sometimes isn't enough for me to function. Some of this may be because I keep waiting until its bad before I take it and you are really supposed to use pain meds before it gets that bad. I just hate the dizzy, puking, sick to my stomach feeling that I get every time I take any of the nacs. I have tried a bunch of different ones. So... here is my question. Will the tens work? I would have to pay myself which means I'm going to get a cheaper one. If i get the cheaper one is it going to work like the big expensive ones. Anyone have a thought who uses them?

I couldn't find the brand she has here in the U.S., though, when I was looking for one.

When I was going to PT, they talked about getting me a tens of my own. But, the way she explained it to me, the company that made it would let me rent it for a month or two to make sure it was a good fit for me and if it did the trick, and then they'd apply my rental payments towards the purchase of it if it was. If possible, I'd suggest looking into going that route! No sense in dropping a lot of cash if it won't give you the relief you want/need!
I ended up not getting one. Even with insurance picking up a good chunk of the tab, it was still going to be quite pricey for me, so I decided to make an investment in alternative treatments instead, which I'm so glad I did!

mine is from.... oh now i forgot. oh yeah EMPI. Its a really nice one, has tons of setting and its small enough to clip it on my pants while im at work. I did go through PT to get it, you have to get a script inorder to get one. My PT told me that they will either lease it to me for as long as (EMPI) they feel necessary, but she was going to recommend that i buy it b/c it would benefit me long term. With my insurance (keep in mind i had already met my out of pocket dect) i didn't pay anything for it. I know w/o insurance EMPI was charging $800 for the unit. The electrodes come separate and i believe they are $26 a set but the insurance covers most of it.

When I went to PT, she said she could either cross the pain or surround the pain. I usually did better when she crossed the pain. Basically, picture your pain as the center of an imaginary X, then place the electrodes at the ends of the lines of the imaginary X. Other girls might have other suggestions, but that's what worked well for me. Oh, and as for the strength, she just kept upping it until it was noticeable but in a soothing way, and I told her to stop. I found I could usually up it a bit more once I got used to it. Yay for fun new toys!
