You should keep a journal on here! What you go through day-by-day!

if anyone thinks this would be a good idea let me know and i will start a thread with a day by day account so people can refer to it if they ever have to go through a bowel resection.
I am struggling to find any help on recovery following bowel resection so if it will be of assistance to anyone for me to do this i would be more than happy

I would appreciate it if you kept a journal - I am having a lot of "intestinal" type pain since my surgery...at least I think that thats what it is. I had endo excised from my bowel and had my adhesions removed from there also (ovary-uterus-colon stuck to my abdominal wall)
I would love to compare our post-op experiences - thanks!

Hello out there - I've had a bowel resection - that is how they found my endo! Just found this board or would have had lots to share with Cass. My resection was an emergency one completed on Christmas Eve through to Christmas Day in 2005. Tons of pain always - never a normal period (what are those anyway!?!?) Abnormal bleeding, diarrhea, cramps that would knock an elephant out of his socks, etc, etc. By some miracle, after years of trying we did have our angel (Emma is now 6). After seeing my insides that night - docs can't believe we managed to have her. Horribly long story - made not too short - it looked so bad that the surgeons told my family it was most likely Stage 4 CANCER - (totally trashed intestines puckered and grey etc. lost left ovary and tube and had to have a ureter resection too) and they scheduled me for chemo even though they discussed the idea that care should maybe only be palliative in order to preserve quality of life. 4 days later (day before my first chemo) surgical partner came into my hospital room in tears (Whoa, I thought, is this a bad sign or what?) Anyway he told me that the lab had determined all those tumors were just endometrial tissue - even the provincial lab had never seen endometriosis like this before - He was crying because he had never gotten to give someone such amazing news before! I did have a colostomy - poop sack!- but was healthy enough to be reconnected within the year - that was almost a year ago and I have just now stopped cursing my surgeon for reconnecting me - the colostomy was so much easier! Hey Cass - gives a whole new meaning to the term 'fecal urgency' doesn't it! My endo is back and new gyno doesn't really feel surgery is best option as I may have to have a permanent colostomy now - He'd rather I try that old D? hormone therapy (male derivative) instead - whoo hoo! Excess hair growth and weight gain - where do I sign up? (note the sarcasm) I told him I would rather live with a colostomy for the rest of my life and he just laughed. (I wasn't joking) Well, glad I found this board, will post more later! Keep your stick on the ice! K

Wow that sounds awful but you seem to have such an upbeat attitude! If you check out the threads on GnRH therapies, namely Lupron, you should get more perspective. Some people have found it to be a great help. Btw, on my hormones treatment I lost my appetite so lost weight, and the only excess hair was the stuff growing back quicker so it may not be too bad. It varies wildly! It'd be great if you posted an intro thread, your experiences so far sound crazy! xx

Thanks for posting your experience with the bowel resection, sorry to hear the that they found it that way though. I completely relate to your pain prior to surgery though, looking back on y pre op days i honestly dont know how i put up with the pain for so long and still managed to work and play.
My endo was very extensive and surprised both my surgeons. Its been 2 months and im still recovering. I am on GnRh analogue Synarel now to stop everything as i too was told that if it comes back i will run the risk of ending up with a colostomy permanently due to the extent of bowel involved.

I was researching intestinal endometriosis prior to my surgery and i found the following article useful as there was nto too much i could find ont he topic. www.centerforendo.com/articles/bowel.htmIt lists some common and uniform symptoms and treatment options etc... there are a lot of other articles to browse through whilst you are there too. Happy reading.
