Thanks for your posting Aussiebird - that is really useful info. When is your surgery?
Angelas, I have very severe endo on my bowels, but only had symptoms for about 3-6 months last year. That was painful bowel movements - felt like I really needed to go but couldn't, or it was difficult. It was like having a really bad stomach upset or something like that accept I couldn't go rather than having diarorhea - sorry tmi!! Pain on my left side which I don't know if it was my ovary or the bowel.
I had a lap in Dec 06 to remove as much endo as possible but it was so badly all over my bowel that the dr didn't want to remove too much in that area because of risking perforation - he would've wanted to have a bowel surgeon there at the same time.
I was suppose to go back for a colonoscopy to see whether it had gone through my bowel, but the op I would've needed would've been risky and as my main consideration is fertility rather than pain my drs (and family) advised me against it.
Hope this is useful!

Ouchy, as for the stage numbers, my doc was talking about my case, so maybe it's possible for a person to have endo touching their bowel but still be less than stage 4 if the endo is really mild throughout the rest of the pelvic cavity, I have no idea really, sorry.
Angelas, my TMI symptoms have included: * Constipation * Random strong rectal pains that last several seconds * Bloating * Fatigue * Nausea * Discomfort after eating * Occasional diarrhoea * Random pains that I have learnt to differentiate from period-type pains * Occasional mucus after a BM * Occasional bubbly feelings inside * Occasional audible gas inside During my period this escalates to: * More frequent BMs that are typically urgent * Very painful gas that doesn't find it's way out * Pain during bowel movements, can be quite strong * Increase in general abdominal pains * Varying consistencies of BMs * Occasional pain in the butt while sitting on a chair * Feeling more comfortable sitting on the loo when I have pain, even if I don't really need to be there That's all I can think of for now, I may edit later.
Interesting fact: My doc was actually able to tell that I was likely to have Pouch of Douglas endo, from an ultrasound.
I have started using psyllium husk and that has helped a lot with the constipation.
I was in a lot of pain with my last period and I took laxative as a bowel preparation for my lap and I ended up feeling much better with an empty bowel. I felt good for a couple of days after my lap, my theory is that this went out the window as soon as my bowel filled up again.
I have learnt that fizzy drinks during my period are a very bad idea.
I take vitamins but they never seem to make a significant difference... maybe I'm not absorbing them properly.
My #1 most annoying endo symptom is by far, fatigue.
scarlett, my surgery is in 5 months. Funny... my doc said the bowel op would improve my fertility.

Yah. I think the staging is pretty subjective and varies from doctor to doctor The endo did horrible things to my bowels, twisting them all which ways and gluing them to other organs and my pelvic wall...but was pretty mild everywhere else.
I can say that my symptoms were pretty much everything you described, though!

Hi,
Haven't been on for while. So just to update I had my colonoscopy last month. The bowel prep the day before wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, I had to take the first drink at 7.00am (I wlll not lie it was foul and esp on a empty stomach) but anyway they say that it should work within half an hour but it actually took about three hours. I had no severe stomach cramps just spent the next few hours in the bathroom. Then you take the second one at 7.00pm that night, and I have to say this one started to work before I even got it finished, but even on a empty stomach I managed to get a a good nights sleep.
Once getting to the hospital they talk you through the procedure I asked the nurse if I would feel anything and she said it depends on the person really. Then she tried to put a iv in my arm and of course because bowel prep she said that my veins had collapsed and she said that she would leave that to the doctor.
So you are then taken to a waiting room, but unfortunately I had to sit there in a light hospital gown for two and a half hours as they were apparently running late. (I was freezing, I have never been so cold) I eventually got a blanket but even that didn't work.
So once taken into the operating room, once again they try and out this iv in with about four attempts and no success. They said because I was so cold and because of the bowel prep this was the reason. But hey presto the Doc eventually got it. So next comes the pethidine which is poured into iv (she said that when reading my notes she felt sorry for me and decided to give me a double dose of this) she also poured something else in which I cannot remember the name of but it can make some people forget the whole experience.
From memory or not I was awake alot of the time I do not remember the scope going in but I did watch some of the procedure on the monitor, also when she knew it was going to be painful she would say "it's going to be a bit crampy now" and I have to say that's exactly what it felt like and you know girls we are all used to that.
Sorry to ramble on but I thought this may help anyone who may be going through this. So anyway the main reason for carrying this out was because one of my consultants was convinced that alot of my pain was because of IBS and not endo and the other reason is (although this is extremely rare) to make sure that the endo hasn't got through the 4 layers of the bowel.
So anyway I got the results I expected No IBS although I could have told them that and no endo in the bowel.
So yes it was a bit unpleasant but worthwhile. So now I am waiting on this bowel resection surgery.

Hi Donnadee! Good to hear from you! I'm glad you colonoscopy wasn't as bad as you thought and also especially that the endo hasn't penetrated the bowel. Do you know when your op might be? Did they say anything more to you about the op given the results of the colonoscopy? I haven't gone back for a colonoscopy as I'm now ttc and then will try IVF in the autumn if I've no luck naturally. I was thinking maybe I should get the colonoscopy anyway, to check the same as you that the endo hasn't gone through the bowel wall, but I don't know what to do. Hope you're doing ok apart from your procedure, etc.

Well as you all know I had a bowel re section last Tuesday. I had 40 cm of bowel removed and endo was removed from bladder, ovaries, POD, appendix and wherever else it was found. It was severe active endo. I woke up in a world of pain but it was so intense i cant actually remember it anymore. i over used the morphiene button and was advised i had pressed it 400 times in 2 or 3 hours and it is meant to be 1 press every 5 mins! thought i was going to die, no epidural just courage was so hard to stay positive but day by day they would remove a tube and it was a sign that it was getting better. Honestly worst pain ive ever experienced!!!
