Hi Scarlett, According to Dr Hunter you can really tell from the MRI if endo has got inside your organs. So I guessed when he sent me to see Dr K it would be for a more detailed examination maybe. At my appointment with Dr K he asked me to describe my pain and to point to it. So I described the usual pelvic pain but I also get a pain which feels like it travels up to the top of my stomach, down my sides and back. My stomach also swells so much it makes me feel like it's going to explode with the pain. He suggested that this could be IBS which I have read can be related to endo. So then he explained that he needed to do a colonscopy and then quickly moved on to the risks of the bowel resection. Usually I am armed with questions but on that day I was in so much agony and doped with painkillers that I really didn't understand why I was having the colonscopy. I have heard that it can show a number of things, whether IBS is one of those I don't know. I suppose the main reason is because it can show endo but in my case they already know that. I think that's great news what your last Dr said about your chance of conceiving. I know some women manage to get pregnant with endo but I think it makes alot of sense if you ovaries and tubes etc are stuck to things they shouldn't be stuck to, they don't function when they should. So then when they are 'freed up' your chances of conceiving should definitely increase. I wish you all the best, you never know whats around the corner and hey who knows maybe you wont need any more ops.

Yes, that makes sense about the colonscopy for getting more detailed info on what's happening. I'm also with you on the questions thing - I always have a list now but I often forget to ask some of my most important ones - don't know what happens!
I hope you're right about not needing any more ops. I hope whatever you decide goes well for you.

;D I have had a bowel re-section! It was in February of 2006. I had a partial hyst. in Sept. 2005 where they removed the uterus and left ovary. My left ovary was stuck to my bladder. Six months later in Feb. 2006 I was in a lot of pain and there was a large grapefruit sized cyst on my remaining ovary. Thye went back in to remove the right ovary. They found my bowel stuck to my bladder. So they took out about an eight inch section of my bowel and sewed the two ends back together. The worst part was the NG tube going through my nostril down my throat into my stomach. I think it stayed in for about seven days. I remember I could not eat for seven days. boy was I HUNGRY. I lost ten pounds. Other than that it was not a big deal. I had no idea they were going to do that. However, the doctor was worried I might have cancer because the endo came back so quickly. So, he had two surgeons waiting just in case. My one hour surgery with one doc turned into a three hour surgery with a team of surgeons. I also had endo on my right ureter. the oncology surgeon excised that. Lately, I feel like the endo is coming back. So I am looking into going to thhe CEC in Atlanta to have surgery. They seem to be more familiar with bladder endo. my doc said there was no way to get it all. The bladder symptoms are back along with bloating and pelvic pain. Oh how I wish this would be over. I have interstitial cystitis to top this all off with a cherry! It would be so nice to be normal! I hope this helps the original thread poster. -Vicki

Hey, vicki!!! Awesome about your bowel resection! We have a member who had bladder resection, if you are interested. She has posted an entire thread on it. I think it is called something like "Segmental Bladder Resection on Thursday."

Wow Vicki - sounds like you have been through a lot and had a good team of drs to help you. What were/are your bladder symptoms? I was told I had endo on my bladder quite badly. I had symptoms last year which were pain when I peed when I had my period. It was actually painful before going like I really needed to go but it was really painful, and then it was sore to start going and again when I tried to stop. I guess it was the muscle contractions that were causing the pain somehow.
Sorry if tmi!
Hope all goes well for you.

(Please discuss bladder issues in a bladder-related thread. That way, people with the same bladder issues will be more likely to find relative info, rather than searching for bladder info in a bowel resection thread. Thanks. )

Thanks ouchy. I will try to find that thread. The docs in Atlanta have done several partial cystectomies. Sounds like that is where i am headed. -Vicki

I will be having bowel surgery. I will try to summarise what my endo specialist said. * It will be a 3-5 day stay in hospital. * Recovery will be approx. 8 weeks but is very much dependant on what is done. * There are 3 scenarios, from best to worst: (1) the endo is just on the outside of my bowel, (2) the endo just goes into my bowel in a small spot, (3) the endo goes into my bowel in a big section which requires a bowel resection (this 3rd scenario is what my doc expects to find). * Stage 4 endo is when it is on your bowel, stage 5 is when it goes through. That was interesting to learn. * My health and fertility should be greatly improved once all of the active disease is removed. * I will be fed through an IV in my hand for a couple of days, and then I will be able to eat soft foods like jelly. * I will need a catheter. * The incision sites will be the same as with my laparoscopy. * There is the possibility of needing a wider incision above the hairline. * It is highly unlikely that I will have one of those bowel baggies. * If I have a bowel resection, it may take as much as 4-6 months for my bowel to fully recover. * Since my endo is stage 4/5, it is likely to come back. I will be having an appointment with the bowel specialist so I will post again when I have seen him. Question: Do other bowel endo gals suffer from fatigue? Not that I want the thread to be dominated by that.

What a complete list of answers!!! You made a great list of questions! Hum. So, stage 4 is if the endo is on your bowels. I guess I have stage 4 then, even though the doc. told me I'm "mild." It's all too confusing for me!!! To answer your question about bowel endo and fatigue, I can say "YES!!!" Most definitely I had extreme fatigue. And pain. I felt like a burning pain allllll the time. It was crazy. Oh, I hope your surgery goes well! Wish you didn't have to wait so long for it!

Hi Ladies! I am curious to know a little more about the symptoms you had that made you discuss and find the endo on your bowel. I sometimes have pain during bowel movements but I always just thought it was related more to the 'bowel movement' than anything else.
