I used it for about 4-5 years. I was on BC for 10+ years, tried probably at least 7-8 different pills and kept going back to my doc, telling her I felt crazy on them. Luckily, she was willing to work with me, and eventually she put me on Nuvaring. Took a little getting used to, but out of all the BC I tried, I liked that one the best by far. Dryness and irritation were the two main problems I had with it. It was so easy to use. It was flexible in that if you wanted to skip a period, you easily could (although my body typically still seemed to go through the motions and I'd retain lots of water when I did that).
Looking back now, I had very minor endo symptoms for years, and I think that BC probably kept it at bay for so long, but when things went downhill and my pain became unbearable, I decided to try Mirena in a desperate attempt to feel better. That didn't work, and when I had it removed, I decided to go without BC for a while and track my cycles to make sure things are still working properly. But, I do have a prescription to go back on Nuvaring should I have the need or desire to go on BC again! (On a side note, if I WERE to go back on it, I'd likely try the olive oil trick that Ouchy suggested to combat dryness.) I raved about it so much that I have a few friends that switched over to it, too, and loved it! I know it's not for everyone, though.
Glad you feel like it's helping with pain and that you're not having tummy problems on it! Crossing my fingers that you'll be able to keep it in!!

I have been on the Nuva Ring for about 4 years. Its the only thing that has ever helped my heavy periods. I haven't had pain until recently. So I have had pretty good experience with the Nuva Ring.
My only issues have been ongoing Yeast Infections....and vaginal dryness.

I really want to try the nuva ring but I'm so terrified of the side effects. I had HORRIBLE, and I mean, HORRIBLE experience on the pills with craziness, headaches, nausea, and WEIGHT GAIN!!!!! I gained 40lbs on those dang pills! I know the nausea is supposed to go away because unlike BCs, the nuvaring isn't digested. So how was your guy's experience with weight gain? Did you have any? and the crazies?? I really need some kind of birth control because the "pull and pray" method is seriously scary.

I was on Nuvaring for a few years and I had by far the fewest side effects on it compared to other pills. My weight fluctuated, though - I was able to drop a lot of weight when I was first on it but eventually gained it all back.
If you're worried about side effects, have you read taking charge of your fertility? There's a whole chapter devoted to using your fertility signals to AVOID pregnancy.

So it's official. I went to my doctor yesterday and my next option is the nuva ring. I'm gonna do it. I just have to wait until I get my period then I'll start. I hope to God it makes me feel better! I have hope! I can't just let my endo go anymore. The lap obviously didn't keep it away. I have to do this.

I think I might try this one, too. Anything to avoid lupron, and if it helps at all with the pain, I'm all for it. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

I'm half tempted to go back on it. We'll see. It was, by far, my fav form of BC. And my body doesn't like BC.

I'm with you on that one. I just shudder to think what the cost will be if I don't find a job w/insurance, soon. But, at least narcotics and muscle relaxers are still relatively inexpensive, in the meantime.

See if you can get samples. Or planned parenthood. A good friend of mine went there when she was laid off and she got her choice of BC for free every month since she qualified. Or see if your doc has samples. Well worth it if you're going that route.

I can't say I had as much luck with Nuvaring as others. I was on it only 4 months, as after 3 months on it I woke up one night with probably the worst stomach pains ever. I thought I had food poisoning or something. It took me a month and I lost 15 pounds in that month before I figured out it was the Nuvaring. Mind you I had never tried any other form of BC...I figured out it was nuvaring because I didn't have stomach pains the entire week I had it out for my period--within 24 hours of putting the ring back in after my period, I was doubled over in crippling pain. I took it out immediately and never tried it again. I've also never had that pain since. It was the "take me to the hospital kind of pain" but my BF would ever so kindly calm me down. Each episode lasted 3-6 hours.
All I could eat during this time was plain rice, applesauce, maybe the occasional banana and toast--at least these were things i knew wouldn't cause the pain--once I put a tablespoon of very mild tomatoes/peppers salsa on my rice and I paid for 4 hours for it. It sucked...
I'm glad it works for some though--the first few months on it were pretty good. I had some pretty serious mood swings, perhaps because I was 30 and never had hormonal BC before--my body was like WTF? (my BF and I were pretty new at the time to our relationship and I remember he asked my good friend if she thought it was the birth control making me crazy because I wasn't crazy like that in the first month we dated...HA). But as far as physically--he never felt it and I liked not having to worry daily about BC. I was sad when it didn't work because because it was easy, and i felt like maybe the irritability and mood swings would have settled down some.
My doctor at the time could not imagine it was nuvaring causing my stomach problems...she was a crappy doctor. Wouldn't listen or anything....glad I got a new one!

I started the ring two days ago. I've taken pills about 6 years ago and went through hell. I was very much against going on BC's but my doctor said it's my only choice at this point to get better because lately my endo has gotten 10x worse. So this is my second day. So far, one migraine, one mild headache, and 3 hot flashes. I hope to GOD it works because my next option is lupron. I really really don't want to go on lupron!!! I am optimistic that this will work and I'm also glad I don't have to worry about getting pregnant anymore! on a side note, I have noticed some cramping but I guess it's better than the pain I was feeling before.

Hi Jenayha, I hope this will work out for you! Can't compare Nuvaring to a regular BC pill. It's so much lower in dose and it's a constant dose as well. I'm crossing my fingers for you!

I found that the first day or two I put a new one in each month, I had a bit of cramping and discomfort. Usually went away quickly, though. Fingers crossed, hun!

I do feel better today. The cramping is kinda gone. I still feel it in the ovaries but that's "normal" for me. I always have pain in the ovaries. I've got my fingers crossed!!
