And any experiences with endo coming back while on the Mirena? I've searched but I can't find anyones comments on this. Thanks!

Um, yeah, I had endo pain just as bad while on Mirena. I would seriously consider the second opinion, I don't think the 'suck it up' approach is valid in the medical world... Any chance Mirena is part of the pain? I was in agony the whole time that thing was in!

It feels like endo pain and I didn't have my period for about 6-8 months at first and now it's back even though I have the Mirena. I think the second opinion is the only way to go now.

I can't believe a doctor would tell me that there is NO WAY the pain I'm experiencing is from endo....I clearly remember THIS pain and now it's worse.

I think the second opinion is the only way to go now. I think that's a good choice. I tend not to believe doctors that talk in absolutes.

I don't trust anyone that talks in absolutes. When you are teaching 11 year olds to answer "true/false" questions on state tests, one of the things you teach them to look out for that is a sign of "false" is an absolute: always, never, completely, impossible, etc...

thanks, ladies, once again!! after having to start with a new doc (very unimpressed so far), and being at a crossroads re: treatment (2+ years of bio-identicals didn't do much for me), i was beginning to reconsider the mirena. i know at one point i felt comfortable with my decision that it wasn't right for me, but i forgot why. now, after going through this thread, i remember!!! i know we all have different experiences, and some women have found it to be very helpful, but the fact that my intuition says NO, that our uteruses try and expel the damn things, and i've already tried several different progestin/progesterone related approaches -- why would this doc, or i for that matter, think mirena would be any different. already achieved thin lining, already achieved extended no-period -- DIDN'T HELP! alrighty then, moving on....

So, Mirena IUD insertion.
I've opted for Mirena as my first treatment option. I'm obsessing about scheduling the insertion. My doctor's office will only do the insertion during my period. I'm not sure if this is just policy or if its because I haven't had kids and it will be easier then.
I'm roughly guessing that my period might start around July 3rd. The 4th is probably the best for insertion. But since that's a holiday, that's not an option. My period is pretty short and odd so a lot of times I'll bleed for two days then nothing for a day or two, then back on. So I opted for July 3rd.
Does anyone know if this will be a problem if this is the first day and thus a heavier day? My period is never super heavy but I worry about rejection. Any thoughts?

Karoliina,
Toivottavasti olosi paranee! (I hope that's correct - "I hope you feel better" in Finnish) I'm somewhat concerned about my own upcoming Mirena insertion..

It doesn't matter if you bleed or not. Once your periods start, the IUD has to be put in within 7 days. This is because the cervix "softens" during periods and it's easier to place it there, it also may hurt less. I recommend you to take a painkiller an hour before it's put in. Haha wow, yeah that's correct. ;D Voin paremmin (I feel better). It's been 4 days since mirena was put in, I still get these huuuuuuge cramps. I feel them also in my thighs which is kinda weird... I've noticed that if I do certain things, the pain starts. So I've been just resting. So a little bit better but still not quite normal. The first two days I felt kinda dizzy and nauseous. I haven't been able to find the threads... I have a doctor's appointment next week so maybe she can try..

I had my Mirena IUD placed on Monday the 9th. Placement hurt a little but I expected it so. Some pinching and cramps. Apparently the nurse practitioner had a little trouble placing it. The sounding went fine. I think my measurement was 6.5. But then she realized as she was placing the Mirena that she had done the sounding at an angle and had to do it again. But once it was placed it was fine.
I had a lot of bleeding and cramps that evening. Percocet and a heating pad took care of the pain. The next day I just had spotting. It's been the same since then. So far so good.
