Gemini it sounds to me like uve reacted very badly to this detox. I would suggest without knowing for sure that that kind of reaction would have actually caused some damage to your bowel. Might be a good idea to take some probiotics for a month or so to correct the damage. Just a thought anyway.
I personally wouldnt do any detox that required taking something that emptied your bowel, it seems unnatural and harmful. Arent there some liver cleansing diets that do a similar thing much more gently?
The one Cherry did sounds good and healthy. Id be wary of these programs that require taking sachets of anything, surely a good diet and some herbal teas should be just as effective and probs less harmful to your body.

i agree with you KB. I guess wot with her being really famous and having her own TV show i felt that she must be doing some good. I'm definately going to try something different ..that lasts a few days and does not attack my body fully in 24 hours.

I'm reviving this thread. My chiropractor/naturopath had a seminar tonight on weight loss through detoxification. His is a 3 week program that involves whole food supplements and a strict diet of raw/steamed veggies, no meat for the first week, some fruits, and lentils/brown rice. He and his wife and daughter (who also work there) are on day 10 of it - they do it twice a year. He warned that the first few days, we might feel tired/exhausted/crappy, but by day 4, things will be much better. The process helps your body eliminate toxins so your body can function properly.
I'm going to do it - just not sure when. I'm interested in it for a few reasons. 1. I completely trust him and the line of supplements he uses. It's a high quality line and I've had great success with him/supplements so far. 2. No matter what I do, my body is holding onto weight like no one's business. I want a jump start on weight loss. I've made some big changes to my eating habits this past year so I don't think a strict diet for 3 weeks will be the end of the world as long as I plan accordingly. 3. With all the crap my body has been through this last year, I want a good detox to get all this crap out of my system. 4. I'm always looking for something that'll make me feel even better. I'm at about 90%-95%, but I'm aiming for 100% better most days.
Two of my friends came with tonight and they're on board, too. I'm thinking I might start as early as this Friday if I can swing it. I'll update on my progress and let you girls know how I'm doing!

Good luck! I did a similar thing about three years ago. I guess with my anemia, I couldn't sustain the diet. By day three I couldn't get out of bed! It's tough, but you'll get through it...I'll be rooting for ya!

Thanks! Just picked everything up tonight. I hope I feel better, but I'm hoping for some weight loss, too. Fingers crossed! Here's a link to the program I'll be on: www.standardprocess.com/display/2680.spi

I have a few friends that have tried to do detox before. Good luck it looks a hard. I would like to do it but I am sure I would have issues with my anemia. I know that when my friends did it the first week was the worst.

I've heard the first few days are the worst, too, because your body is getting all the toxins out... I've also heard that after that, your organs are working so much better because they're constantly not trying to filter the toxins out that you feel better than you've felt in years. I'm hoping... I've read great things about the system I'll be on. It's all natural, food supplements. And I like that I'm under my chiropractor's care while I'm going through it - I have someone to call if things don't seem right.
Tonight, I'll be planning my meals, and tomorrow I start!

Ok, day 1. I thought I'd be smart and mix my 'cleanse' supplements (which I take 3 times a day the first week) with my shake supplement (2-3 shakes a day for 3 weeks). Only after I emptied the contents of the cleanse supplements into my shake mix did I realize that there's cayenne pepper in it... So now I'm drinking a vanilla/strawberry shake and all I can taste is cayenne! EW!! But I can't throw it out because I only have so many cleanse supplements. I'm having a hard time choking it down.
Here's what I'm bringing to work to eat: 1/2 head of lettuce with kiwi/red onion and a simple balsamic dressing I whipped up last night, 1 cup frozen peas, celery sticks, banana, and a nectarine. Here's hoping that gets me through the work day! Then it's lentils and fresh veggies for dinner tonight.
I'm coming down with a cold. I don't know if it'll be good or bad timing to do the cleanse in conjunction... Maybe the cayenne will help clear out my sinuses! We'll see!

Hope you managed to get through day 1 and 2 (relatively) well. From what I heard day 3 is the roughest so wishing you strength and perseverance for today! After this everything will get better!
I did a detox once myself when I was a teenager. On day one I had to drink sauerkraut juice. Not sure if you know what it is but is is sour and absolutely horrific! I still cannot think of it without having that disgusting feeling all over again. YUK YUK YUK. Then there was about a week of drinking 1 liter of vegetable juice per day. It tasted like cold tomato soup. I could drink water and green tea as much as I liked. I managed to do this for 5 days, then I was so fed up. It was too boring. But I did lose weight... I was chubby as a teenager so that was a bonus. I do not recall feeling healthier or something. Just hungry. Well, maybe this is not too motivating for you.
I would like to do a detox again though because I am convinced of the health benefits. But I would do it differently now. My father in law and his wife do a detox once a year where they only concentrate on detoxing, relaxing and personal development. It is fully supervised and you also get massages and there is a swimming pool etc. It's not even so expensive and it sounds like a nice way of starving yourself :-) They say that the hunger also goes away after 2 or 3 days. Does it?
Hang in there! I'm sure it is worth it in the end although it may not feel like that at this time.

Thanks! So far, the first two days haven't been that bad. I'm finding that I'm still eating quite a bit (just of fruits and veggies) and I'm getting a lot of fiber so I haven't been starving, although I'm still getting the hang of it and found myself with a very loudly grumbling tummy during a wedding yesterday! Luckily, I brought some snacks with to tame things down.
I did a colon cleanse a few years ago and only made it to day 3, but that tasted absolutely disgusting (think after-rain-smell-of-earthworms mixed with dog food). It also made me run to the bathroom within an hour and was very harsh. Once I passed blood, I knew it was time to stop. But, in this case, it's been quite gentle so far. I'm just taking some cleanse supplements 3 times a day for 7 days and 2-3 shakes per day, then the rest is whatever fruits and veggies I want. Oh, and I can have 1/2 cup brown rice or lentils a day. Half the food should be raw, and the other half can be cooked, and I should be eating two times more veggies than fruits due to fruit sugars. Next week, I can start to add in chicken or seafood. Yay! I made a big honking stir fry last night and it was SO yummy (only oil, salt, pepper, and a bit of soy for seasoning). I couldn't even eat my entire serving, it was so yummy!
I went to the farmer's market yesterday - it's set up on the capitol square in town - and I had a huge bag FILLED by the time I made it to the first corner! I came home and prepped a lot of food for the next few days so I'm good to go. I found that my energy has been a bit low and I've felt a bit achy the last few days, but I hear that'll pass within a day or two. And it's really not all that bad, so here's hoping day 3 is tolerable!
For me, it's all about the health benefits. I'm under the care of my naturopath through this, and I completely trust him and his recommendations. I've done some research on this detox, too, and it comes with great reviews. I've already had to turn down drinks with friends since I can't have any booze (boo!), but I figure I can manage that for 3 weeks. I'm hoping I feel better, look better, and have a sense of accomplishment when I'm done!

Well, this really isn't all that bad. I had a lot of energy this morning, then after lunch (leftover veggie stir fry with brown rice) I was ready to crawl under my desk and take a nap. It was horrible! So, I played a drinking game with myself: every time I yawned, I had to take a drink of water! I made it through 32 ounces in 3 hours... The bloated/constipated feeling I've had for a few days is starting to go away, but not completely. All this fiber - my body doesn't know what the hell to do with it! I'm hoping that by tomorrow (and after my water guzzling today) all will be well tomorrow. Oh, and muscles feel a little achy, but was told this can be normal and that things get better on day 5. I'm still doing fine on the diet, but getting bored with what's in my fridge. On Friday, I can start having some chicken/seafood, so I'm stoked for that! Yay for meat!!

What I had for dinner yesterday: spaghetti squash w/homemade spaghetti sauce and a supplement shake What I WANTED for dinner yesterday: steak, real spaghetti, grilled cheese, popcorn, English muffin, cake, tacos. I don't even LIKE English muffins! So today is day 6. I retained a lot of water the first few days - I think I'm close to ovulation, and I typically get super bloated around then (FINALLY - day 40! Been under some stress, but that's cool because I'm trying to put off my period at my new job for as long as possible!) It feels like that extra water weight is on its way off, though. Went to Pilates last night - first time I've worked out since I started. It was weird - it felt like every single muscle was activated the entire time. It was a really good feeling and I really feel like I got a good workout! I woke up this morning with the good worked-out-yesterday feeling and my muscles just feel, well, alive in a good way! Not sore or anything, just healthy if that makes any sense? Point is, my body is feeling good. I still super tired yesterday afternoon. Here's hoping today is a bit better, and even better when I can start eating some meat! I can't WAIT for Friday!

I'm impressed! You even went to Pilates on your diet. Wow, good job. Sounds like the whole thing is doing a lot of good for you. Keep it up!!! Almost there!
