I'll have to tell him to add ALC/ALA to his list . But I'm serious--I have a ton and only take 1 per day, so I'm happy to bring you some, and I will be in Hyattsville on Tuesday so depending when you leave school we should overlap pretty easily.

Soo glad it's working for you! Be careful of the quality of the supplements you buy though. My Kinesiologist calls GNC supplements "Generic Crap". A lot of times they add things that you don't want to put in your system, so be sure to read carefully & know what all the ingedients are! I use the site pureformulas.com. They have free shipping, too. Here's the Alpha Lipoic Acid that I take from this site: pureformulas.com/total-alpha-lipoic-acid-90-tablets-by-nutri-west.html

Thank you for the heads up! I'm a hardcore label reader because I can't have gluten so I was sure to check the ingredients. I'll check out that site though. If I could get away with less crap I'd be all for it!

I was finallyyyyyyyy able to spend the $25 dollars to get some of this stuff and I'm already feeling back to Wonder Woman status again. I still can't get over how dramatic the effect is with these pills.

Okay, I wanted to start a new thread but apparently Im a bit slooooooow and cant figure it out. So I will post here. I have learned of a new doc near me who specializes in ortho-molecular medicine. His nurse mentioned IV glutathione as a possible treatment for some of my current issues (fatigue and depression). So, I went online and found this article: www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/glutathione-the-mother-of_b_530494.htmlThe article is by Dr mark Hyman (functional medicine doc) and this is the opening paragraph of the article: "It's the most important molecule you need to stay healthy and prevent disease -- yet you've probably never heard of it. It's the secret to prevent aging, cancer, heart disease, dementia and more, and necessary to treat everything from autism to Alzheimer's disease. There are more than 89,000 medical articles about it -- but your doctor doesn't know how address the epidemic deficiency of this critical life-giving molecule ..." SO why post here, well..... alpha lipoic acid is a precursor to glutathione and will help to support your levels of this super important antioxidant. I did a search and found only 1 thread with info relating to this and I was amazed when I read it because it linked glutathione (or lack thereof) to endometriosis. So here is that article mthfr.net/endometriosis-mthfr/2012/03/24/and this is the takehome message summarized from this article : "The ability to eliminate xenoestrogens is compromised when one is deficient in SAMe and glutathione due to a MTHFR C677T defect. Endometriosis may then become an issue."

Awesome thanks for the info! Testing for MTHFR isn't a standard test and only a few doctors actually do it. There needs to be more research done before it becomes standard but the evidence of the problems it causes is piling up! I used to read a lot about ortho-molecular medicine. I think it's a really interesting branch of medicine and it's really promising. Unfortunately a couple of doctors did some really controversial human experiments and really ruined its reputation many years ago. I hope that some people can help establish this branch of medicine again and restore its name by doing some ethical research.
Thank you for the articles!

I have been talking to Karen at length about something called "multiple chemical sensitivity syndrome." It's one of those diagnosis that very few physicians take seriously but other practitioners will diagnose it based on patient history. It basically means that somehow a person has become "chemically injured" by being exposed to some environmental toxin/agent, or even a viral infection. As a result, one or more enzymes in the body's detoxification system becomes damaged. This causes a person to become very sensitive to certain chemicals upon re-exposure because the body can no longer rid itself of it. I really think there is something to this theory but it's hard to prove. It would sure explain why suddenly so many of us became so sensitive to things and then come down with random syndromes and disorders ranging from autoimmune, fibromyalgia, IBS, chronic fatigue, and even endometriosis. Multiple chemical sensitivity syndrome is an interesting google search too if you're curious. I just mention this because the article talks about improving your detoxification system.

Thanks, I will check it out. The article talks about improving glutathione levels by taking supplements such as the one that you were already taking (alpha lipoic acid). Most chronic diseases as well as chronic fatigue syndrome are asscociated with low glutathione. Doc's suspect that you have low levels of glutathione based on symptoms or poor response to other treatment and then they recommend supplements to help indirectly restore the glutathione levels in your body. Some docs do gultathione IV and this is available and currently being used to treat AIDS and cancer patients. The doc in the Dr Oz segment is the Director of the Prevention Research Center at Yale and he says that there is a lot of promise is using this form of treatment...... which is why Im so excited about it..... something new that offers a lot of promise Another way of testing for glutathione is to "test the genes involved in glutathione metabolism. These are the genes involved in producing enzymes that allow the body to create and recycle glutathione in the body. These genes have many names, such as GSTM1, GSTP1 and more." per the DR mark Hyman article

Yeah I liked the article! I have been really dying to know how much of this stuff is taught in medical school.

Im not sure how much of this is being taught in medical school (as the research is still under way) but it is being studied by Yale (as mentioned in the Dr Oz segment that I previously linked) and it is also being studied by the Stanford School of Medicine Prevention Research Center, Here is what is written about the Stanford study. nutrition.stanford.edu/projects/Glutathione-NACStudy.htmlAlso, the U.S. National Institute of Health did a study in 2011 on glutathione and its effects on autism, but I cannot locate the results so the study may sill be under way.

@ Jenaya and others taking this supplement, I was advised to begin it as well (I had a vitamin/amino acid panel done and my carnitine level was low).... so I have a few questions: What time of day do you take the supplements? and how many times a day? The bottle I have says to take on an empty stomach. I took one in the AM and one at night and had a hard time sleeping. Im also having headaches but it could be for other reasons.
