So does gelatin! It's packed with collagen, which is necessary for good skin, hair, and nails.

Helen, I am so happy that the hair issue is improving! As Karen mentioned way earlier in the thread, please make sure that you have your thyroid function evaluated properly. SOme of the symptoms of an underactive thyroid include: - hair loss - low Vit B12 levels - thin nails B12 absorption (as you probably know) is geatly inhibited by low stomach acid, so if you took an acid blocker long term due to an GI distress/ulcers caused by the H Pylori, then your stomach acid would have been low and can still be low. Chronic and acute stress can cause adrenal gland dysfunction. And adrenal dysfunction can contribute to thyroid dysfunction..... and with all of the major stress that you decribe in your post, I would check into this as well. a great website is stopthethyroidmadness.com I would go to the "undiagnosed" section and look at the list of symptoms and also check out the recommended lab work. That is KEY to appropriately diagnosing such a condition. And... one last thing.... Vit D can affect calcium absorption and many Americans are seriously deficient. Mine was 18! (optimal 50-60). When I started replacing this, my nails became much stronger Best of luck to you and glad that things have taken a turn for the better

I'm going to add vitamin B12 testing to my 'to do' list. My hair has receeded so much I've cut it short to disguise the hair loss. It would be nice to stop shedding, we've got wooden floors and some days there are hair tumbleweeds around the place...
