My shower plughole bungs up really quickly, as does my hairbrush. Don't get me started on my floors and sofa. This has been happening for around a decade now. My body was in pretty bad shape at the end of last year. Thing, is my hair and nails grow super super fast. Obviously the hair falls out faster than it grows and although my nails grow mega quick they are so soft I can bed them without much force, even my thumbnails. They flake and slplit very easily. Tried alsorts to strengthen them over the years. Only thing that works is keeping them short enough not to catch on things. A few weeks back I caught my thumbnail on the seatbelt, just a quick flick, and the whole thing tore off right down to the fleshy part. I think buffing them can help too as it gets the blood circulating. And they look smooth and shiny.
But it's my hair that really bothers me. My mum's is so fine and thin and I'm scared that in another 5 - 10 years I won't want to leave the house or I'll have to get a wig. When I'm fully back on my feet again I really need to think about sorting my diet out again.

OUCH the nail thing! Owieee!!!! I'm sorry about your hair. That sucks. Hopefully the diet changes help manage it.

I was wondering, are there certain parts of your scalp that have lost more hair than others? Like is your thinning more on the top or temples?
Mine has thinned a lot at the temples but the top is still ok.

Until recently it was mainly just the top of my scalp. If I stand in front of a mirror with a light shining down and I can loads and loads of my scalp. The last while it seems like the back of my head is the target, as that's where it seems to be coming from when I'm washing it. It feels thinner all over. I think my hairline might have started to recede at the edges of my temples, but I'm not sure.

Aww I'm sorry I think the top of the scalp is a PCOS type thing? I'm going to google hair loss patterns for women. Maybe it'll turn something up. I googled temporal hair loss for women once and all it said was that my pony tails were too tight. LOL! edit: This is a cool site! www.ishrs.org/hairloss-hair-loss-female.htm

So, my GP has been telling me for the last 4 - 5 months that hair growth and loss happens in 3 month cycles, which I kinda knew, so I agreed to hold off for a while, given that I know I was in a bad way at the end of last year. It's still happening. Over the last two weeks I've painstakingly collected the majority of the hair that's come out and there's a scary looking clump. I went back and saw him this morning, and he's referred me to a dermatologist, appt July 12th. If they run appropriate tests and find nothing, so be it, but at the moment I still believe there's an underlying cause which could be treatable. The last time I saw someone about this I was diagnosed with neither PCOS nor endo, so hopefully they'll take me a bit more seriously now.

I hope they take you seriously! It would be nice if you could have something to treat this.
This is coming way out of left field but sometimes very experienced hair stylists will know the cause of hair loss before a doctor will. Just a random thought...

As some of you know I am on an endometriosis protocol that consists of taking Anastrazole 1mg and Prometrium 200mg by mouth every night at bedtime. I am also taking estrogen 2 drops on my forearm to decrease headaches from low estrogen. And lastly I take testosterone 2 drops "down under" 3x/week to spice up my sex drive.
About 1.5-2 months ago I noticed that my hair was getting soooo dry. I tried all different kinds of treatments, then I started shedding alot of hair in the shower. I usually shed a decent amount of hair in the summer. I mentioned it to my doctor and he said "keep an eye on it and see if it gets better or worse." Well yesterday I was showering and lost a decent amount of hair. I saved it and put in a bag in case the doctor wants to see it.
I am freaking out because I don't want to go bald!!! I don't want to keep losing so much hair. I am afraid that it's because of the "protocol". Am I supposed to stay on the protocol to get rid of my endometriosis and lose more hair, OR come off the protocol and be in pain but have hair.
I did noticed today after I brushed my hair that I have alot of short hairs no..maybe my hair is so dry that it's breaking??
Has anyone ever experienced this? If so any tricks? Ahh I'm going to lose my mind.

If you read the rest of this thread, this is pretty much exactly my situation. I do get regrowth, but it's very fine and I can always see lots of shorter hairs. Hair also dryer at the ends than it used to be, and it's gone really wavy! This all kicked in in my mid-20's. Sounds like you have a doc who might take it seriously enough to investigate it. Don't be shy in going back to ask to have it investigated. I have an appt with a hair dermatologist on July 12th, hoping to get somewhere! Be persistent.

I went off the pill about 2-3 months ago, and I have had a very noticeable increase in hair loss. I remember a few years ago I went off them for a while and the same thing happened, so I wasn't too freaked out. I think it stopped after a while. I can't remember how long it took. I also can't remember how long it was until I went back on the pill.
I noticed that it appeared to be especially concentrated around the area of the temples. Lately I've noticed a bunch of short hairs there that (thank goodness!) appear to be recent re-growth. This reminds me of an encounter I had with bumping into someone I hadn't seen in ages who was now pregnant. She was remarking how I looked different because my hair was longer and how she looked different because her hair was thinning at the temples because of pregnancy hormones.
My hair is still falling out, though. I look like a dog shedding everywhere. There's always a ton on my clothes, and if I run my fingers through my hair, I can pull back a good 10 or so at a time, several times a day (not pulling them out or being overly forceful.) Periodically I can feel one fall past my arm or leg.
I colored my hair yesterday for the first time in ages, and I was rinsing it out, and I pulled out a big clump that looked like it was probably from one localized spot. I know that it was probably hard on my hair to color it, but that freaked me out a bit. I'm afraid to look too carefully for a bald patch.

I had my mom look at my scalp last week and my boyfriend last night. I feel like my hair is thinner near the scalp, especially in my crown area. It's really distressing!!

I realize hair loss could be because of a lot of different things, but have you had your thyroid checked lately? An increase in estrogen can sometimes cause your thyroid hormone levels to drop a bit. Something to look into? Whatever the case, I hope it's only temporary!

So I just talked to my doctor and he recommended Biotin. Anyone ever try it?

Don't think so. Is it a drug or a vitamin complex?
I was always under the impression that pregnancy slowed down the natural growth pattern, in so far as while you're pregnant it stops falling out, due to the hormones. Then after baby's born, you shed what should have fallen out previously. I think it's the same with the pill - as it kind of mimics pregnancy, your hair doesn't fall out so much, but you stop - and bam. While I was on Provera last year my hair loss slowed to practically nothing, but since Jan of this year it's been worse than ever. If it were just the Provera I would've expected the loss to slow by now. Pulled a massive clump out of the bath plughole this morning. My floors are always littered with my hair, and I regularly feel one on my am that I have to pick off. It's so distressing.
Lur6 - I collected two weeks worth of hair loss a while back. In case I needed to convince my GP! He didn't feel the need to see it.
