I got my hands on a recipe to get rid of bloating! This is what female fitness models and body builders do 1 week before a competition. "Losing 5lbs (or more) of bloat in a healthy way!" -By Julian Michaels
60oz of distilled or pure water Add 1 tablespoon of sugar free cranberry juice Add 1 Dandelion root tea bag Add 2 tbsp of lemon juice
Drink 60oz of this mixture every day for 7 days
I think this is a great idea do to a week before our periods when the bloating is the worst. I'll post this in the recipe thread too!
NOTE: I wouldn't do this excessively because you can dehydrate yourself. Just do it when you feel like you're retaining water. Also I'm not a huge fan of things that are labeled "sugar free" because that usually means it's full of artificial sweeteners. I would recommend just finding a juice that says "no sugar added." There will be sugar in it but it will be the natural sugars from the juice.

I am glad to see this thread! I have a too small stack of pants sitting on my dresser right now! It has gotten worse (along with the 20 lb weight gain!) Since I started the bcps! I am so tired of feeling uncomfortable all the time! One day a while back, I was so bloated, I noticed my tummy itching...when I looked, I actually had a new stretch mark! From bloating! I could not believe it!

I realize this is sort of an old thread, but OMG I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME!!!! I'm mildly fortunate in that I've done an elimination diet before and realized that yeah, the entire reason I bloat up and gain 5-10 pounds a month and then promptly lose it is because of my period. It's only happened since I've been on birth control. I'm totally buying that tea you recommend, Janaya. Man, I really thought I was some sort of water retaining sideshow act. "Come see the amazing pregnant woman with an empty uterus! Ooooh!" I love this board. Maggie

I'm like you, Maggie - no matter how well I eat during/before my period, I ALWAYS bloat up during my period. It sucks! I feel for you...
I have my period at the moment and even my fat pants are super tight. Super uncomfy. I've been living on a detox tea the past two days which helps your kidneys and liver process everything through better. I think I've pissed a lot of it out the past 2 days, but I'm still feeling really fat and uncomfortable. Ugh, I hate this!

Aw that sucks, Karen - I hope you're feeling better this week! Last week I got so bloated that I actually got a slight bruise around my ribs from my bra. Ouch. I will send good thought towards your detox tea efforts! I was actually able to find that Peach De-tox tea on sale the day after I posted, and have tried drinking a glass every few days to see if it did anything, and I think it might actually be helping. My doctor saw me on friday and commented that I was slightly less puffy than I normally am, and I actually lost a pound this week, which is about as common an event as an ice age, so I'm pretty encouraged.

Yeah, I dropped 6 pounds this week, and it was all water... I'm going to stick to the tea every other day as I have a propensity to gain water weight very quickly!
I'm glad you're less puffy!

What brand of tea is this? Is it the same peach one mentioned earlier? How many cups of tea do you drink every other day? Does it give you the runs or anything?

I'm not sure which peach tea was suggested before (I can't stand peach flavoring), but I've been using Yogi's Detox Tea (http://www.yogiproducts.com/products/details/detox/) It works on improving kidney and liver function so it doesn't affect the bowels at all.

Thanks! I will have to try. I have gone gluten free/wheat free and still have the stupid bloated belly - I feel like I should be shedding weight like crazy and I'm not. Working out 40 min 5 days per week cardio - only lost 5 lbs. Frustrating. Maybe this tea will help! Do you just drink 1 cup every other day Karen? Is it OK to flavor it with some honey?

If you're retaining water best to avoid sugar, so if you can, take the tea without the honey.

Yeah I wouldn't add anything sugary because that can make bloating much worse. I used to drink the peach tea just when I felt bloated. I actually haven't had a bloating problem since I went gluten free though so it has been a while. I hear dandelion tea is really good for bloating too.

^ Yup, the tea I use has dandelion in it - seems to do the trick. My digestion lady is going to have me start on another enzyme specific to bloating, too. It should arrive next week. Fingers crossed! If she can at least fix that, I'll be ecstatic!

I assume sugar is my issue then. I add honey to my greek yogurt daily and I haven't been able to lay off the dark chocolate yet. I am also adding some brown sugar to my steel cut GF oats.
