I'm sure this has been mentioned a million times but I just wanted some thoughts or opinions on the matter. I'll try to keep it brief.
I have stage 3 endo diagnosed in 2007. I started really noticing the symptoms in 2006. My endo is on the bowels so my GI tract is always miserable to say the least. Since being diagnosed I've seen a gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, and a general surgeon because my GI symptoms are too much for me and basically are slowly ruining my live and my body.
My overall symptoms include excema, migraines, severe bloating, severe cramping, sick to my stomach, severe fatigue, weight gain and crankiness which are symptoms of the endo but I feel like there is something else going on.
So I started a Gluten Free diet a week ago. I've been doing really well except when something random has a gluten ingredient in it that I didn't realize. So I've been cooking alot especially healthier items
At first after the first few days the bloating and the migraines were decreasing.
Today I was extremely sick I had diarrhea until there was nothing left in me, physically exhausted, and in extreme pain. I thought maybe my body was detoxing the gluten?
I really thought the gluten free diet would help me a ton but I'm not so sure. Any one ever go G-Free? Experiences?

I've found that when I make strict, drastic changes to my diet, I felt absolutely awful for about 5 days. Lethargic, foggy, bloated, all I wanted to do was lay down and sleep. But, by about day 6 or 7, things, picked up and I stared to feel wonderful.
In addition to gluten, have you considered eliminating dairy and sugars from your diet as well? Perhaps one of those is another culprit. It may be helpful for you to cut out everything along those lines for a month or so, see how you feel, and then slowly add in a few things here and there to see how your body reacts. It's tough to do but for those that it has given effective pain relief, it's been well worth it! And if anything, you can cross it off your list and say you tried it.
Good luck, hope you get some relief soon!

I'm a new member and have only recently bought Carolyn's book. Until then I was following a similar kind of diet. I've been vegetarian all my life but my diet for about 3 years has been dairy-free and almost egg-free and sugar-free. However, it did include wheat. I did go through a brief gluten-free period which helped reduce this feeling of bloatedness somewhat but was rather difficult to maintain as I also travel on work. I live in Germany which - unlike the UK or the US - is only now getting into vegan and gluten-free foods so they are still quite expensive and hotels don't always have these options.
Once I started the diet, I was endo-free for about 2 1/2 years but it came back again with a vengeance late last year and I'm now recovering from a major laparoscopy. I wish to start using Carolyn's book now and have a question - do you tend to follow the diet really strictly or is it okay to deviate from it occasionally, for example, when you are invited somewhere or when you are on holiday by actually having a bit of normal wheat-based pasta or perhaps goat's cheese or the occasional egg?
A million thanks!

Hey Kikaa - I was diagnosed in April and started the endo diet (or wheat, dairy, meat, and sugar-free) about a month later. my endo is on my bowels and all over in there, and my main symptom other than pain has been bloatedness, etc. The diet has made it about 1/2 less painful and bloated than before, so I think it's working. I do 'cheat' with company or when invited out to dinner with friends or family, but I make it easier on myself by buying things I know I will eat, like beans and rice, organic chicken, lots of salads, corn and rice crackers and chips, and prepared, boxed organic vegetable soups that I can take to work and leave in the fridge. It's been difficult to change my habits, since before endo, I could eat anything.... But yes I follow strictly, with a few exceptions (I also let myself have 2 or 3 rice milk lattes WITH SUGAR each week ) but the rest of the time I'm pretty strict, and I've let my family and husband know it's important to me to do this, so they've been tolerant. I really do notice the difference, and I sure hope you can come to some kind of solution that works for you and your lifestyle. It sounds like you travel a lot, and have a hard time finding organic foods... Here in the US (Alaska) they have really picked up on the trend, and foods that have never had gluten, now have labels 'totally gluten free' on them. it's funny, they just market to whatever people are doing, but the foods are the same.... Good Luck, let us know how it goes!

I've noticed that, too! Same with 'fat free' and 'cholesterol free'... Jumping on the bandwagon! Oh, and Kikaa, feel free to post an intro thread so we can get to know more about you!

I have a friend who gor quite poorly several years ago - lost loads of weight, constant diarrhoea. Turned out she has coeliacs disease. I think if you have a genuine gluten problem, you know about it. For most of us I believe it's the wheat rather than the gluten that causes the issues. I tend to use spelt flour now and make my own bread (yummy).

Im starting the gluten free as my doc is highly suspects the celiac test is going to be positve. I guess with all my recent wieght loss, the bloat, the no bm's until the test come back negative she wants me to eat like I have it. I should know I hope at my next appt which is next week. Im fine with a diet change tho infact if I see it help in the next week even if I am do not have celiac I will continue the diet so I started to research and I came up with this site that explains alot in terms I understand. www.gicare.com/diets/gluten-free.aspxI have a family member who has the diseas and how she learned was wieght loss and a bloat just like mine. My mom has diverticulitis suspected endo but had a early hyster before they tested same with my grandma and she had a bowel resection also my aunt so Its in my family to have gastro isssues. Im going to educated myself as much as I can now and also have Jacob tested for celiac just incase~

I am gluten free now for four months not because of endo but because I have Hashimotos. Gluten makes this worse. However, I have noticed a dramatic improvement with pain since being off gluten.

I think its helping me I have noticed although not diagnosed yet with celiac that when I have stool it is pale no color or substance. Anyone else notice this? That is a sign of celiac. I really do not mind the taste of the products either. I bet it suites me and the other foods were too rich for my body to handle. Endo or any other digestive problem I think it is worth a try. It is harder to find things to eat but I found a great health food store near my docs and I am there once a week so I will shop and then see him. Works out nice.

Keri I'm not sure pale stools are necessarily a good sign? I think stool is dark because of bile. Oh, and following a comment about stool with a comment 'I really do not mind the taste...' kinda weirded me out! Lol! Hope you're feeling better x

thanks for the link to gluten free alcohol I have pretty much cut alcohol from my diet but once and a while will have one drink to celebrate things, good to know what I can and can't drink gluten wise I usually stick to vodka as I find its the least irritating.
