"I think I liked it better when I didn't menstruate for months on end."--don't say that, Karen!!! Hope you get the period soon.

And... it started... 36 day cycle, and - get this - 14 day LP, which I'm totally stoked about!!! Further proof that things are working. However, the timing couldn't suck more. I have 4+ hours in the car today for work and a hot date tonight with an old college crush that I haven't seen in forever. I was really hoping he wouldn't have to meet Bloated & Crampy Karen.

Not too shabby on the cycle. Sorry about B&C Karen, maybe it will make you alluring and assertive (and unfortunately hard to get at the end of the evening). I'm looking forward to the same for this weekend with a family cookout, and I was reminded by my surgeon that I can't take ibuprofen within 2 weeks of surgery. Doh! I think the regular ibuprofen was helping with the pain and clots for the past few cycles...oh well!

B&C Karen was in full force, and it certainly made me more hard to get at the end of the evening but we still were able to enjoy ourselves. But, a few ibuprofin were able to keep it to a tolerable range and the drinks certainly helped me relax. I woke up in the middle of the night with some pain but was eventually able to fall back asleep. This flow, though, is something else... Haven't had such a gush in a long time.
Are you at least able to take Tylenol prior to surgery? I hope you survive the cookout!

Sorry, Karen--not ideal, but glad that you could get through the evening without horrible pain.
Semi, good luck this weekend. Surviving a family cookout while wanting to curl up in a fetal position is really hard.

Yep, this sucks. I think Tylenol has the pain relieving qualities of Pez- am i on a placebo?!! The bright side is that this should be the worst day, just gotta get through it.

Well, its not quite over yet. I broke down and took a Tramadol now that I'm home for the night, in case it made me barfy or loopy (left from my last lap, ok'd by my doc to take sparingly). I'm really missing the anti-inflammatory aspect of the ibuprofen, since everything seems extra stuck together, blown up and sluggish. The geek in me finds it an interesting experiment, the rest of me just wants to be able to walk upright!!

So the Tramadol was not a great idea- I had to leave work today because I really thought I was going to be sick several times working with patients (so dizzy, nauseous and sweating). I was initially surprised I feel so crappy 12 hours after taking it but seeing that I get hungover off a drink and a half these days maybe that's just me! This cycle has been truly awful. Today will be a re-set and tomorrow will be better, dammit!!

I’m sorry you feel bad – tramadol doesn’t agree with me either. It helped kill my pain but I had the major sweating, and rapid heart beat along with super heavy eyes, had to only take it at home and it would basically knock me out. I would only take it when I was really desperate but it did work for pain control.

Yeah, I've only taken it right after surgery so I don't think I noticed, but I was really desperate and in major pain. I need a "I heart ibuprofen" bumper sticker I guess!

semi -- I just read everything you've said about the tramadol, I am so with you!! Whenever i take it the side effects (nausea, vomiting, itchiness, migraines) last for as long as 24 hours after I take the meds, even though the painkilling aspect only lasts about 4 hours! It's like the most nightmare-ish hangover in the WORLD! I took mine super duper sparingly -- 1/2 pill at a time (still made me nauseous and gave me a headache.. but at least no throwing up or itchies!) -- until I just got so annoyed with it that I decided it wasn't worth it any more. Only problem now is that I'm smack in the middle of my period with nothing to take -- OTC meds are like Pez to me too, I feel no pain relief whatsoever from them But now I'm finally out of the leftovers from my surgeries that I've been careful to use only when needed so that I'd have them around for as long as possible.. and now they're gone and I'm miserable! I really wish there were some way to establish a pain control regimen with a doctor who can prescribe painkillers and also help moderate your intake. It seems to me like you can only get drugs like that if you have an accident or a surgery or else you're looked at as a drug addict, which makes me sad because I by no means am one but I get so much relief from taking just a little bit of vicodin or percocet when I'm on my period

I can't stand the pain pills either. Jess, you should be able to get someone to help with the pain long term. If Dr. Redwood can't (which makes sense--he's a surgeon not a long term doctor), see if he can refer you to a pain management clinic who will help you figure out how you can survive the worst days. Even a regular ob/gyn should be able to help you, but we all know how frustrating that can be. But ask for a pain management referral and see what you can get. You know what you need and it isn't much!!

Thanks for sharing that, Jess, it's nice to know I'm not the not one to have such a long reaction! I'm sorry that the system makes it hard for average folks to manage pain. I'm with Rust, maybe the pain clinic could help. I think they are more likely to prescribe narcotic meds than your regular family doc.
