Yeah, don't wait on the coverage!! You'll have a nine month waiting list if you go longer then a month without continuous coverage. That means no help at all for anything endo related and if things get bad!!! YIKES I thought I would be okay last christmas and didn't do anything and now I can't even get my asthma meds refilled until october. Just a heads up so you save yourself the trouble

Thanks so much for all the info! I'm definitely a control freak, and want to know the ins and outs of things, so it's helpful to know what questions to ask. Thanks for the head's up! I have to talk to HR about benefits, sign off on things, etc sometime in the next week. She's pretty knowledgeable about all that stuff so perhaps she can shed some light on things.
The good news is I already maxed out my flex plan for the year, and (although I have yet to find out for sure), I don't think I have to pay that back when I leave even though I haven't made all my payments. Ha ha...
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. The funny thing? I just got back from an open house from my second job! Work for a photographer, we just opened up a new studio that we busted our butts on for 6 months to get ready, so went from one job to another. The distraction helped! At least I have that on the side, and we're in prime wedding season so I have that coming in, but we'll just have to see how it plays out with unemployment. I've got a few years of tax returns to prove it's legit but we'll see how they take it... Oh, and she already said she could up my hours and help out in the office, too. Right now I'm just a second shooter at weddings, so picking up some extra cash would be cool right about now...
Sorry for the rambling.

Got confirmation today - HR suggested that, given my circumstances, I should maintain health insurance coverage, whether I take out my own policy or continue with theirs. With the government subsidy, it's only 10% more than I was paying before, although now that it'll come directly out of pocket, it'll pack more of a punch... Oh, well, better than nothing. And as for the flex plan, I verified that even though I've only paid in just over $400, and they've paid out $750, I don't have to pay the difference! Woo hoo! I consider it my $350 severance package. Went in for a few hours today, and will for a bit Monday and Tuesday as well. People that are left had very nice things to say about me, and several already have commented about them making the wrong choice. I feel the same way (there's one girl on my team that is horribly inefficient, a big gossip, and difficult to work with, but since she has a steady workload at the moment, well...), but I'm relieved to be forced to look elsewhere. There were 11 cut in all this time around (including the ex-boyfriend, which surprises me as he was very close with the CEO), and considering our staff WAS 138 when I started 2.5 years ago, and we were down to 65 as of last week, well, you can imagine how crappy things are going there!

Wow. Wish we could have gotten a subsidy on ours. We were on it for almost 2 years. It was VERY expensive. Pisses me off that we pay insanely into it but can't get anything out of it. If you're looking in to a private plan, you better find one you like and stick with it--it's going to be illegal to change private plans or even to get a private plan after the new socialized health care plan gets passed. Per page 16 of the 1,018-page bill, "'Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day' of the year the legislation becomes law." www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_071609/content/01125110.guest.html

I'm sure that they will regret letting you go Karen. I don't really know you other than reading your posts, but you seem on top of your game and highly organized. It's totally their loss and may be one of the reasons they are in the position that they are in - making bad choice after bad choice. At least you can move on to bigger and better now! That's good news Karen on the pricing, as Ouchy is sooo right, COBRA is insane. I remember thinking when I saw the price that there was no way at that point I could afford it. Yes, Ouchy, you should be able to get that money back they there are taking to the bank - the whole health insurance industry drives me bonkers! I haven't really been following the new health insurance bill, but what you posted Ouchy is horrifying. I know we often don't agree on too much when it comes to politics , but I agree with you here from the little I do know. I do agree that health insurance should be made available in an affordable manner to those who can't afford it now, but this is scary. So if we can't move plans, what's to stop the private insurers from hiking their rates SOOO high that we are forced to get the gov't plan. I know this is going to sound totally selfish, but I've worked hard to get where I am now and to be forced to take another policy that may not cover our specialists for endo is SOOO not cool. I'll stop now, as I could go on forever and I don't want to hijack this thread. Thanks for the info Ouchy, you've peaked my interest on this one :-).

It's NOT selfish!!!!! You've worked hard! Why should someone take it from you and dictate whom you can and can not see! It's going to come down to YOU paying for everyone else, and you won't even be able to see YOUR specialist!

Yup, stacey! It's the segue in to forcing us to have the gov't plan! Pretty f'd up, huh! Grrrr... so in essence, the gov't will be making money off of this instead of the insurance companies. Some topics I'm so left and some I'm so right... I guess that makes stuck in the middle. I'm truly saddened by the state of this country. Will someone ever get it right?

Tomorrow is open-line Friday on Rush. You should call him, tell him you were a HUGE Obama supporter, but that you're not down with this health plan! I bet he'll put you on the air!

You guys are hilarious! And Stacy, I think it's funny that you pegged my organizational knack! I'm known as the one at work with the super-tidy desk. Yup, they've made horrible decisions to get them to this point, and will continue to make bad ones. But they have to live with all the decisions they've made, and although I'd really like to have a job, I'm fortunate that I'm forced to find a better fit for me. As for coverage, I'll stick with cobra for now. No sense in switching docs/copays/etc if I don't have to! And as for the photography, I've been doing it for a few years and enjoy it, but I don't think I'd ever do it full time. I'm more of an analytical thinker. But working 2 jobs was really starting to wear me down since my health took a tank. I was just telling a friend a few weeks ago that it'd be nice to only have to work 1 job. Well, I guess I got what I wished for! I just stopped down at the studio to talk to her about things and she's totally game for working as much as I possibly can as long as it doesn't interfere with unemployment. She's a good friend of mine, we used to teach together, so that's cool. I'm thankful I have something to fall back on and at least get me out of the house a bit!

So good that you have something to pick up some extra cash and it sounds like something you enjoy! It sounds so cliche, but everything usually works out for the best, especially when something so unexpected like this happens. A few years back, my hubby was so frustrated with work, he casually talked about quitting and I casually talked about an idea I had for a business. One day he came home and said I quit... forced us to move on it. We started the business and now he's back in school doing something he really wants to do!
