Ha, I'm finally putting 2 and 2 together. When I saw the stack of pictures that one of the VPs had, I totally freaked, but now I remember that they're cleaning the windows today at work and since he had them on his windowsill, that's probably why he moved them... Hee hee - I feel a bit dumb now.
I wonder if this round got a severance package at all. The last 2 didn't, so I'd be surprised if this round did. Ugh, today is going to suck at work...

Hmm, well, as it turns out, Layoffs: Round 4 was today. I saw a few fishy meetings here and there lately, but didn't expect anything so soon. Turns out I was affected this time as well. I'll be paid out through next Friday, other than that, I'm on my own. Certainly not the best time to be making even less money on unemployment than I was before, but at least I'll be able to get caught up around the house a bit! That certainly took a backseat the last year...

Nope, no severance! I can finish out through next Friday, and will get paid for it. That's it. The first two rounds they only paid people out for the rest of the DAY, then for round 3, they let people finish out the week. I was smart and hoarded my vacation time, though, so at least I'll get another weeks worth of pay with that.
I'm scared, but relieved. The place was so miserable, they made so many poor decisions, and I've been keeping my eye out for something else. I have excellent references and a good reputation with everyone there and I'm much more flexible than some of the specialized people there (such as architects and construction guys). I'll be able to catch up on the stuff that I LOVE to do, and my father has assured me that whatever happens, I will not lose my house. So that's a huge relief. I should be able to get by with minimal help for a bit.
Thanks for the thoughts, though!
Hmm, and if you're not already, you'll likely get sick of me on here with more free time! Hee hee. Oh, and the upside is that I have my health/pain well managed now. Not perfect, but I can function. If this would have happened during any of the other rounds, I would have been a miserable mess and unable to even fake a smile in an interview from the pain! So at least I have that going for me, right?

No idea. They said they'd wait to talk about benefits when I was ready, so we didn't even talk about it at all. Not sure if I NEED need to right now, but it makes me nervous. Right now, the only appointments I still have scheduled are therapy and my kinesiologist, and I started tapering off my therapy appointments anyway. But if I don't get cobra, just my luck, something would happen. We'll see.

I am so sorry Karen! I love your positive attitude though and at least you can enjoy some of summer too! It's never a good time to get laid off and I went through a scare too this summer, so far so good... it's terribly frustrating and nerve wracking waiting for the other shoe to drop.
As far as the COBRA goes... I am not an expert, but look up HIPAA laws on pre-existing conditions. I think you can only have a certain amount of time not covered to be accepted on a new insurance plan without them denying any benefits for a pre-existing. However, with that said, if you start again with a new company, depending on their policy, they may be forced to pay for everything. I'm sure there are some people more up to speed on here, but it's something to think about. When I was considering going to a full-time employee, I was researching this same thing to see if I'd be covered. Thankfully I got my private insurance plan before I was diagnosed and now I'm scared to go off of it.

I know that COBRA will cover everything, but if she doesn't take it, there is a time period, where if you uninsured, insurance companies can deny pre-exisitng conditions for a certain period of time when you sign on to a new one. I read the laws a few months ago, but they were a bit confusing to me. I just wanted to make Karen aware that they existed and to see if anyone else on here was better versed in interpretting these laws. Here is what I was referring to: Is there a limit to the period of time I can go without coverage between jobs if I want to reduce the length of a preexisting condition exclusion?Yes. The break in coverage between one period of health coverage and another can be no longer than 63 days (just over 2 months). If you are between jobs and do not have health coverage for 63 days or more, then you may lose the ability to use the coverage you had before the break to offset a preexisting condition exclusion period in a new health plan. Here is the website with the information. I'm just not great at interpretting all of the jargon and exclusions. www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq_consumer_hipaa.html

Really sorry to hear that olenska. Its going around. I was let go from a job I loved in April. It sucks but being positive really helps. I try to look at it as a good chance to concentrate on my health and relationships, and gear free time towards that (also loads of time to spend on the web chatting to people in similar situation).
Hopefully you will find something soon. I have just applied for the first suitable job that has come up so fingers crossed.

No worries Ouchy... I thought that you may know the HIPAA laws when it comes to this stuff. I never thought I'd be worried about changing jobs/insurance when I was in my early 30s :-) Also Karen, I would double check, but I'm pretty sure you have a certain number of days to accept or deny COBRA. I remember when I changed jobs way back when, my insurance didn't kick in right away. I looked up the rules and it said something like you could choose to enroll at anytime within that time period and it would cover any visits retrospectively. So I just did not accept it knowing that if something happened, I could go to them and pay for the dates I missed and it would cover me in full. Does that make sense? I'd just check, as that was almost 10 years ago. Oh yes, and I hope that you find a job so fast that all of this is totally unnecessary
