Thanks, ladies. Right now, I just need a distraction - it's just brutal sitting and waiting at work. I saw that HR has a meeting this morning with the architectural and engineering directors and it's kind of a hidden meeting so I'm taking a guess it won't be good. I cleaned out my desk and have everything in a neat little box for me to grab in case and some of the girls in my department and I have been exchanging phone numbers and personal email addresses. Scary stuff.
Had drinks with a few friends last night, including one of the architects that was laid off from my company in November. He looks rough - can't find anyone that's hiring. But, we agreed that if I'm cut, he and I are heading out for drinks asap! Here's hoping it's today so we can all just get this over with.

There's a rumor floating around that tomorrow will be the day. The president is meeting with mid-level managers tomorrow morning at 7 (minus my boss, which makes me think they'll either cut her or cut all of us), then with his brother (the CEO) and the VP at 8. One of the mid level managers told one of his staff that he'd be pulling his department into a meeting tomorrow afternoon, then meet with everyone individually... I would assume the other departments would do the same.
Work has been HELL all week - can't concentrate at all, have a hard time sleeping at night. At least with the first two rounds of layoffs we were kept in the dark. No one even SAW the first round coming. Now we know what to look for and we're all scouring all the conference room calendars for clues. Last time there were tons of private appointments booked in each the morning that they let people go. I wouldn't wish this on anyone!

This is TORTURE. I had to give something to the VP of Estimating. He was in a meeting so I left the papers on his desk. On my way out, I noticed the stack of family photos that he had piled up... They were always displayed on his window sill but now they're stacked nealty in a pile, ready to grab on the way out (at least that's how I interpreted it...)

Oh, you are so very much in my prayers right now. Please keep us updated and if you need anything... don't hesitate to ask us! We'll all be keeping our toes, eyes, fingers... and for some of us... ovaries and uterus crossed too!

I'm ok, the rest of my dept. is ok, but my boss is not. Still waiting to hear who's affected. I heard of a few more but don't know how many there will be. I'm a bit relieved, but then again I'm not. Hard to describe.

I'd be scared shi*less if your boss is being cut. That is really close. They may be cutting based on salary. Guessing the boss makes more than those under the boss.

I'm not relieved. I'm still sh*tting kittens about this. And to top it off - I have to leave early today for a doc appointment so I'll still be in the dark about who else is cut until tomorrow.

I love how the filter replaces a certain word with 'nuts'! Ha!
When I got home, I logged in and checked my work email. Those of us that are left are taking a mandatory 5% pay cut and have to pay 10% more for health insurance until we meet our revenue goals. That's not so bad - I can deal with that. The last two times they laid people off, though, they hauled us all into a meeting to tell us who was gone. They didn't do that this time. And since everyone is given a week to transition out of their job (if they want), we still have to deal with it - seeing them go through it all, not being able to do anything.
It's a small enough company - there were 85 of us last week and now the rumor is that we're down to 69. When I started, we were 133. Between the 3 layoffs, they let go 52 people (there were some others that left on their own, too). That's a lot of layoffs! 52 families that were affected in only 1 year! I'd like to think that this may give me the opportunity to do some work on site, in estimating or in project management since they all took cuts too, but just my luck I'll just get stuck with more crap work. We were told that our department was spared because we're so versatile, but I think it's because the admin group is the lowest paid group there! It just makes me sick.

And thanks everyone for your kind words. I'm one that needs to talk to process, so I think this thread was more for my own sanity than anything else. But your kindness and thoughtfulness was much appreciated!
Oh, and I think the ex was spared, too. And now I think I'll have to move down to the first floor, which means I'll see him every day, so it's a good thing we DID get together this week to kind of clear the air a bit. Everything happens for a reason, right?
