He can check w/ a simple scope of the inside of your bladder. What a punk! I had it done to check for IC, and it only took 5 minutes. So IC can be checked for by getting a scope done?

I have to pee all the time too but honestly that would be tolerable if it wasn't for the burning and the uncomfortable bladder and the whole undercarriage pain during and afterward...afterward being pretty much all the way till I have to pee next!

Thought I'd post here rather than start a new thread. I had a cystoscopy (my Gynae was running a study on chronic pelvic pain and had it as part of that) and was told I have interstitial cystitis. Have never had a UTI or anything like that in my life. Only time it has hurt to pee was a couple of times post op. Do find I urinate frequently sometimes, but not nearly as much as people here are mentioned. I didn't think I had any bladder pain, but the gynae said as the symptoms of Endo can be so vague, what I think is the Endo pain could be bladder pain but it's a bit hard to tell. She said it's chronic and there's not alot to do about it, especially as it doesn't really bother me to much. Apparently Caffiene, Citrus, Alcohol and spicy food can aggrevate it.

Hi I am new on this forum. My name is Linda, at the beginning of the year I went to docs with what I thought was a urine infection. 4 different sets of antibiotics later she refered me to gynea. They decided to do a laproscopic treatment and discovered endo - which they cleared up and also a small fibroid on my uterus. They didnt remove the fibroid cause they said I could live quite happily with it. I feel on and off that I need to pee. It was a lot worse before the op and now comes and goes. Sometimes its really uncomfortable after I empty my bladder. What is the reason for this? I thought that the lap op would help. Some people are saying to me that it takes a while after the op for things to settle down? ?

How long ago was your lap? If it was just recently, some people have been told that the lap causes a lot of inflammation in the pelvis, which might cause things (including bladder/ureters) to be inflamed for a while. Have you talked to your doc about this? Might be worth a phone call at least.
In the mean time, some people have found cutting caffeine, alcohol, and citrus (I might be forgetting a few others) as those often tend to irritate the bladder more.
Oh, and don't forget to post an intro in the intro thread!

I am the same way about the bathrooms. Every house, store, etc. I always find the bathroom first. I usually have to go every 30 minutes to an hour and I really gotta go! I blamed it on my endo too because I have had many UA and have taken pills for bladder infections, but the test come up negative for infection and the pills don't change anything.

hi ladies!
I just saw a urologist/gyn on friday to discuss my new bladder issues. I'm having a cystoscopy done on the 26th, i'm pretty nervous about it, but heck it cant be any worse than surgery right??!! I spoke with him alot about IC, he stated that they don't even use that term anymore its now call PBD (painful bladder disorder) and that the treatments are horrible, expensive and rarely work. He also stated that the PBD diagonsis is a "waste basket" term for women who don't have endo, but have issues with their bladder and the doctors can't figure out what it is. Nice eh? LOL. since my symptoms have gotten worse since coming off of lupron, he stated that he's pretty positive its the endo thats causing the pain and suggests that i think about going back on lupron. YAY! lol.
Have any of you had a cystoscopy done? i'm not being put under for it, so what should i expect? I told the doctor that i would be taking two ativan before coming in for the procedure. ;D

Yup, I had one. I'm not going to lie, it was painful, but then again, when I had it done, EVERYTHING hurt. They put some numbing gel in my urethra and let it set up for a good 10 minutes or so (with my legs in a stirrup and my naked butt showing for all to see! Then they inserted the thing (it was the diameter of a big straw) and poked around for a bit and injected die into my bladder and up my ureters so they could take x-rays while it was in there and see everything. I remember a lot of fluid coming out - they had a bag under the table that it would fall into. Gross! All in all, the process was about 5 minutes. It REALLY hurt to pee the rest of the day (brought tears to my eyes) but it got better after a bit. My urologist was an ass so I don't have fond memories of the procedure.
Interesting what your doc said about PBD... Have you cut caffeine, citrus, etc. from your diet? I noticed my bladder symptoms flare up a bit more after oranges, although I can't bring myself to give them up completely.
Good luck with it! I'm not sure what ativan is, but if it's not a painkiller, I'd suggest taking something before if you can!! Let us know how it goes!!

a big straw?!?! Holy cow! ativan is an anxiety med, i'll probably take some vicodin with me, or take it before hand. I'm more nervous now! AHHHH.. I'm a huge fan of sour patch kids and i notice that eating those aggravate it, strange. i try not to drink much pop anyways, since it makes my endo flare up and i don't really eat too much citrus stuff! LOL. I'll let ya know how it goes, i'm glad my hubby is coming with me, so he can carry my sobbing butt out of the doctors office

Didn't mean to scare you!!! I just remember walking out of there thinking that was NOT what I had expected when I went in there - I was kind of freaked out by the whole thing! Then again, my pain was at it's absolute worst then, and I could feel it really bad when he was checking out my right ureter (that's the side that was the worst).
Good luck!

I'm guessing or saying my bladder issue is def. a result of my endo. I have to pee every five minutes and it's miserable...

Wow, all you ladies have been through so much! I am learning so much from all of you THANKS! As for my bladder issues...i don't necessarily have to pee all the time, but i get these times when it feels like i'm not completely emptying my bladder. If feels wierd like i have to pee, but i did like 10 mins ago. Not sure what thats about...i'm sure it has something to do with the endo. Pretty positive i haven't been getting bladder infections. It hasn't been really painful to pee...not always comfortable...but what is when you have endo? haha

I get a weird feeling that I need to wee and have to tell myself that I don't... in most cases if I think it through the feeling subsides. So I'm not sure if it's the endo or if it's pschological, this feeling of a full bladder when I'm not full at all. Very glad to say that I don't experience pain whilst emptying my bladder now which is lovely

I've never really had pain on weeing, never had a water infection that I know of and never had cystitis, but for years I've had an issue where it's actually unusual for me NOT to wake during the night for a pee. Last night was three times and I still had a full bladder when I got out of bed. During the day I regularly feel like I 'could' go but when I do it's barely a trickle. I think the night time thing is due to water retention during the day, for whatever reason. Saw GP this morning and having a urine test done to rule out any infections.

Ok, about a week and a half ago, i said i didn't need to pee all the time, but i take it back. Lately, especially during the night, i'm waking up numerous times to pee. This is not normal for me. I usually never get up during the night, so this is a little frustrating.
