Hey Gem - I've been on continuous birth control for a about 1.5 years now with no period... I've had 2 laparoscopies during that time and my doctor left me on only the active birth control both before and after my surgeries and was able to see my endo just fine. And I was perfectly happy with taking the birth control because I didn't want to have to deal with a period while in recovery!
Your doctor might want you to do something different though so it would probably be a good idea just to double check...
Hopefully they give you a date soon!!

I was wondering the exact same thing, Gem. I have my first lap scheduled, and fortunately got it scheduled right when my next period would be, but im also on continuous bc. Part of me is wondering whether I should go off of my bc until my lap so that the endo is more obvious, if that makes sense.

Hello ladies! I believe I am finally posting in the right place. Haha. I am in the process of booking in for a lap, and am very nervous. Can anyone advise as to the scarring--number, location, sizes, severity, healing, etc? Also, I have a belly piercing, anyone else had a lap with this? I'm struggling to find out a lot of information of how the incisions heal up, I'm a very slow healer, and everything I read it mixed--from really great to really bad experiences. It may also depend on the size of someone's abdomen as well I suppose. Any advice on this would be appreciated. Also, my gyno advised upon a physical examination that she could actually feel what she referred to as a 'nodule' (caused by endo, she believes) on my uterosacral ligament and was concerned about the sensitivity of my bladder (pain, discomfort, etc.)--anyone had anything physically 'felt' by the doc prior to operation? Thank you

There is a thread floating around with some pics from post surgery. For my regular laps I had four incisions: one on each side near inside my hip bone, one down near my bikini line, and one in the belly button. I have a larger scar from my colon resection down low, and a high one from the diaphragm work, but you won't get those! The incisions heal very well, in my opinion, but I'm not too self conscious. I think I am one of the few who does not have pain on exam, I think most gals do (and I think it surprises my specialist every time!).

I will have to go on a hunt for that thread! The incisions along your hipbone must have been quite high up! That's great to hear they heal well, thanks for sharing that with me!

HI, So I been reading up on lap stories and what not and had a few questions around getting a lap...mine is not near being scheduled yet and as you know yet to even meet gyn..But well I like to be well prepared and not have any surprises and well kinda need to know a few things.
I am fine with getting the lap when need be and am actually to the point of wanting it which you know if you have seen previous post by me but...just wondering..
*How much bleeding occurs after surgery down there?
*Is the bleeding any different if you are on your period or not?
*this may be stupid but why would one have so much bleeding, do it have to do with the suregery itself?
*I read here about they dilate your vagina is that true..?
*And lastly with the bleeding i have read that they say to be sure to bring your own pads as we all know what the hospital has (ones that are fit for an elephant..lol) But can you use tampons for the bleeding? Please say yes!!!!!!!!!!
sorry if a lot of questions ...

I will try to answer some of these... When I got to the second recovery room, I noticed I was bleeding. I left a pretty large stain on the bed (maybe the size of a CD) when I got up to try to pee the first time. I had forgotten to bring a pad, so I had to use one of their huge ones. Once the pad was in place, I only had a light flow, then spotting for the next 2 days. I didn't ask about a tampon, but I personally think that it would be really painful to insert/wear. My mom was asking why I was bleeding (kind of embarassing to have a huge blood stain on the bed and the back of my gown in from of her and my bf) and the recovery nurse said that it was because all of the pelvic organs were moved around and it disrupted the uterus to cause a small bleed. I am not sure if they dialated me, they did not look inside of my uterus, so I am thinking not. They did insert a catheter while I was under and used a numbing agent, which made me feel like I needed to pee, but I kept trying and maybe a drop came out. I downed a bunch of ice chips and Sprite so that I could finally pee and go home!

Thanks for answering and giving me info into this. I hate pads hate hate hate!!!! I would say I haven't used them since I was a teen and that's what my mom bought for the first few years. Usually find they would irritate me too, between that and just not liking them I stopped using them. I have used small liners though especially on heavy days for back up but try to avoid them too.. If I an not too doped up I will check bed before getting up incase it is blood covered, try to avoid that embarrassment!!! so sometimes the bleeding is more spotting though?? Thanks for tip on peeing lol.

I don't like pads either! I stick primarily to tampons, but I wear a pad with a tampon overnight on my 2 heavy days because I have ruined more than one set of sheets. Not cool!
I wore the hospital's big pad (it made a crunching sound whenever I took a step, gross) home from the hospital and some of the night, if I had the energy I would have changed into one of mine, but I just wanted to sleep! I didn't sleep well, usually waking up every hour or 2 to use the bathroom, as the urge to pee was still there, but not much pee to get out. I changed into one of my pads sometime during the night and wore that into the next day.
I would say after 24-36 hours after coming home, I switched over to liners because I was only spotting. Hopefully you only have to put up with the torture of a pad for 1 day! Bring one to the hospital that you will be as comfortable as possible in!

Hello, I just had my first lap done a couple of days ago. As far as why you spot afterwards my gyn told me that she would be using a tool to lift my uterus and move it around so that will cause some bleeding. After my procedure I have spotted a little every day since. No enormous amount by any means but definitely enough to make me want to wear a panty liner. I brought my own pads to the hospital with me and my mom helped me to get it on. The spotting has definitely decreased in the 3 days since my lap. I never asked about using tampons afterwards mostly because I am so achy I didn't even want to think about what a tampon would feel like. I hope that helps. Best of luck finding your gyn and scheduling surgery!!

Thanks....I read a lot of people saying they need help getting their pad on...I will be mortified if that happens..I am a pretty open person but somethings I need to keep private and that is definitely one of them!! Can't even think about it!
Makes sense the bleeding now...I really wadnt sure what triggered that to happen.

I asked the nurse for a pad, expecting her to just hand it to me because I am a very private person, but she actually put my feet through the holes of my underwear (bring granny panties, don't want anything snug) and stuck the pad in the right place, then pulled up my underwear. Any other time, I would be beet red with embarrassment, but I was in such a haze and there was really no way that I could have done it on my own.
