I agree with Karen, it may not be the best thing. Eat lightly, stay hydrated, and rest up. It may make you feel a little sicker when you wake up from the op, but if you need it to calm your nerves, go for it. As you said, the doc didn't prohibit alcohol. Try not to worry. Easier said than done, but it'll be over before you know it, and you'll have answers when you wake up. Best of luck.

As much as I'm a total wine-o, alcohol is a no-no before surgery. It thins your blood...that's why you've been told (I hope) to stay away from asprin and NSAIDS for the past few weeks.

Damn I wish I had seen this before she had her surgery. I was actually told specifically not to drink any alcohol before my surgery. But hey, working in the ER I've seen plenty of drunks have surgery and are fine through it so it's probably one of those things they just like to say as a precaution. But like you said, it's probably because of the dehydrating factor of alcohol.

I had my lap 4 days ago and slowly recovering, can anyone tell me how long it was before they was able to open their bowels as i still haven't been able to as it hurts to push, is this normal - i do feel like i am about to explode though!
Also, will my period come naturally as if nothing has happened so 28days after last, or should i expect it to be early, late??
Thank you

I think a lot of women take a while to have a bowel movement - a lot of pain meds tend to cause constipation. Drink lots of fluids and eat lots of fiber is the only advice I can give! I remember my first bowel movement after my lap was painful but was such a relief!
As for the period, think it really depends. Are you on BC or not? I would think that if you were on BC, your cycles should stay pretty much the same, although you may have some bleeding because of your lap. If you're not on BC, and depending where you were in your cycle, your body could have delayed ovulation due to all the work they did in there. Might have to play the wait-and-see game. I had Mirena inserted during my lap so my cycle was way off (I've since had it removed). Perhaps some of the other girls can chime in on their experiences?

Oh thanks Olsenka, No I am not on BC but am as regular as every 28 days...my period was 6 days before the lap so may have to wait a while, not to bothered but just wondered when to expect it!
Many thanks x

I also recommend Colace (a stool softener) to make it easier to go...that was a lifesaver for me.

Slips-
I was on BC during my last lap in December. My period ended about 5 days before my lap. When I came home from the hospital, I had a bit of bleeding from what I assume was them doing all that work and moving things around inside. When I woke up the next morning I was bleeding very heavily. I called my doctor after 3 days and she said that sometimes anesthesia can cause hormones to get all out of whack and cause another period early. It lasted for about 17 days and I was completely miserable! She told me to double up on the BC but like I said, it still lasted over two weeks. That only happened after my last lap but not after the first two, so I don't know exactly what happened. Hopefully that's not the norm though!

My doctor actually gave me stool softener, with the narcotics because they are so.. constipating. If you dont' want to try overcounter he should perscribe something.

I need advice- I had my first lap 4months ago and the pain has only gotten worse. I was diagnosed with minimal endo and have been ttc since with no luck. I've tried acupuncture, diet , NSAIDs and nothing helps. I'm considering seeing another surgeon who claims to excise the endometriosis rather than lasering it off? Any thoughts? I feel like my life is completely consumed by this disease and the constant pain ( not just atvovulation/ periods) is a constant reminder. Please any advice?

I've heard mixed results with ALL types of surgery, but there's nothing wrong with getting a second opinion with another doc. Is there another one in your area that you can get an appointment with?

I'm trying to get an appointment with another RE for a second opinion. I'm also going to send my records and a history to Dr Redwine in Oregon have you ever heard of him?

Yup, I've heard of him. Doesn't he charge a fee to review your records? I'd be suspicious of that, but if anyone else here has had a good experience with him, please chime in!
