I dont' think they have any conclusive proof that without treatment it really grows more. My theory on the breakthrough bleeding, which I had w/ like 10 different pills including the patch, is that I bled more on the pill due to the breakthrough, so I was probably making the endo worse by bleeding all the time, whereas with my normal/wacky cycles not on the pill, I would only have bleeding/my period once a month at most, sometimes less (irregular cycles).

My goodness it really doesn't seem to be a preferred method in the US to take continuous BCs.
Here in Ireland, it is the preferred option after the lap and laser therapy. I have taken back to back BCs for the last four years up until this week. By this I mean I took pills for 12 weeks, then a break, then 12 weeks etc.
I found a massive amount of relief from pain until the bleed which was always bad but at least I could plan my life around it.
I have ocme off it now, I do agree that our bodies shouldn't have so many hormones ingested but we'll see. I have a feeling this next period will be the mother of all periods.

i have found the continous bc has helped my pain a lot....i always wonder if it is healthy to be stopping your periods like that, but without it, i would rather be in a coma when it comes time for the wrath of eve as i call it.....i still have pain, but it isn't ER kind of pain like before....funny thing is, my doctor never told me to take it for x amount of time and quit for awhile...do you know if you are supposed to regulate the lenghth kind of like lupron?

With regards to regulating the amount of time you are on the BC, I think it depends on what doctor you speak to! My gynae has belted it into me that it does less harm than good to take them continuously as there is no proof that it does any harm and the less that you're ovulating the less harm you will be doing to your insides (scar tissue etc.) However my doctor was shocked to hear that at 26, I have been on the BC for 10 years and advised a break.
It's hard to know!

I was on a really strong progestin one for over a year continuously--no 3-month breaks, as proscribed by my gyne. It is completely up to the doctor.
I've actually learned and read that it's pointless to have a "period" when you're on the pill bc it's not a real period anyway. You have to ovulate to have a real period. They only designed a placebo week so women would feel the pill to be more "natural."

Well ladies, I wanted to give you an update. Went to the doc on Friday. We decided not to go off the BCP's but to switch to another kind to see if that would help me have a normal period again. We also talked about some other kids of therapy and treatments. So I start the new pills in a week, and after that I'll let you all know how they are doing. It is an Ortho pill. I couldn't tell you which one right now. I hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Anneny ---- which type of BC caused your anxiety? I was put on Yasmin and had panic attacks as a result. My doc is now trying me on Seasonale, will let everyone know how it works. I've been on other bc when I was much younger and never had trouble with panic before. Hoping that the seasonale works!

Hi Catarina, it is best discussed with your doctor, the only way to really know is to try it, each pill affects each person differently, and can even have different effects if take one type then have a break and go back on it after a while. That's the worst thing about hormones. People can talk about their experiences but it's all down to how your body reacts.

It is very hard to say, i have another doctores appointment tomorrow, and just recently had an ultrasound to see if anything was visible. Thank you! I find that heat, and showers help with the discomfort.. Has anyone discovered any other ways or foods to try to avoid? thank you for such a fast reply Cherry!

Hi Catarina Have a look in natural treatments, and the diet section, there is loads of info there on other options. Just have a browse through and feel free to ask questions.

I was on bc pills for 16 years and was never diagnosed with endo. I went off them 18 months ago and just found out I had stage 4 endo. I think bc pills mask the symptoms of endo and make the symptoms go unnoticed because my gyn of 9 years never suspected I had endo. My current gyn said I must had endo for years.

I was on Yasmin, which is the same thing only taken differently. I did take them continuously, though.

I started taking Lybrel almost a month ago.(start a new pack this sunday) I am very discouraged right now with it. I got a period after 2 & 1/2 weeks on it and still spot throughout the day every day. I have also had at least 4 cysts that have ruptured while on it. I am in alot of pain. I go back in 2 weeks to see how things are. I also feel more depressed. I don't know if it is because of the pain or just with the pills. I just started taking lexapro (yesterday) I hate taking meds. But I figured I would give it a shot. they gave me samples. I feel so bad all the time. I have lost 10 pounds in the last couple of months. Now that I have found this sight I am going to try the diet and try some other supplements and see how they help.
