My GP is gone til 2morrow. I am putting a call into the GI doc for a colonoscopy if they can get me on the books this week I will do it but prob not til next week who knows. Im still drugged from last night very groggy but I can feel my pain. I am asking for a CT the xray showed no obstruction but something more could be going on that a CT would show. I am on hold right now I guess til a doc can help. I am not popping pills tho. I mean really that is obsurd to tell a patient to do that like it is no big deal. Im sure being a ER doc he sees first hand what pain pills can do to someone. I would rather not become dependendt on them and be considered a drug seeker when the docs feel like that is what they want to call me. Its not fair I feel bad for anyone who takes the docs advice and uses the pain pills only to become addicted to them and eventually have no way out of the addiction except detox. It is so SAD! It is very obvious to me that docs do that tho. They created a problem that our society is dealing with and Im not even sure that get that they are the ones who are pushing it. Sorry had to vent. It was so ridiculas last night a huge disappointment for a hospital that I drive a half hr out of the way to go to bc the other ER is so terrible.

I left a message for my GI doc. Im looking into a self enema kit anyone ever try this? I have to do something I feel sick about going to this route but what am I to do. I am researching it now and when my husband wakes up from his nap he will go get it for me. I know it sounds horrible but I have had them done in the hospital actually when I have had bowel preps that did not work they end up giving me a enema. So I know what to expect they are not pleasant at all but I can not go on like this. Any experiences please share if you feel comfortable.

I have only done one myself enema before my endoscopy and I assume it would be the same. I personally found it difficult to do and it felt like it was burning when I put the liquid in. It said to hold for up to 5 minutes, but I couldn't get to a minute before I expelled the fluid. I bleed from my bowels during every period and just after and this was just after my period so whether it was something to do with that??

The enema kits are pretty simple to use. I have used them before each surgery. (some doctors require it) Is there any chance this is stomach and not bowel related? Have you ever had an endoscopy for your stomach, duadodum? You can get ulcers from Ibuprofen or whatever. That can cause black tar like poo from bleeding. It also causes coffee grind like substance which appears in the poo as well. Also you can get a blood occult test from the doctors office? Did you do that? Its a do it yourself at home thing that you turn into your lab? It might give you piece of mind. I'm sorry your feeling so crappy again KSA!! I hope you figure it out soon!!

I'm laughing at the hysterectomy pregnancy test... I had the same thing with my doctor. She goes "you may want to consider going on BC's for the endometriosis" um... I have no ovaries so...?" Oh well, then you may consider talking to your GYN about a hysterectomy"... I had that already" oh sorry, I didn't have time to read your chart because its to long". Gotta love idiot doctors!! At least mine was honest about not bothering to read the chart! grr...

Keri I did one before my sigmoidoscopy last year. I was dreading it but it really really wasn't bad at all.

Keri, if they did a rectal exam then they most likely also did the blood occult test that Omak is talking about. If that's negative then your stools are not black because of bleeding. The blood occult test can check to see if there is any trace amounts of blood in your stool. If they DIDN'T do this, I'd be extremely upset if I were you. It's a BIG deal to run this test with a person having symptoms like yours.
Do you take iron supplements? Iron supplements, or iron rich foods can also turn your stool a dark "blackish" color too.
I can't believe these doctors feel comfortable treating people without reading the dang chart. It makes NO sense!
I really hope you can resolve this problem! I feel so bad that you got treated like this. On a side note, consider this hypothetical situation: what if it IS "just your endo?" Ok so under that logic here's something that I wish ER doctors understood about us. Those of us who have endo have a baseline level of pain we consider "normal" for us. This is the chronic pain we learn to deal with in our daily lives and not something we go into the ER for. With that being said, anything outside of our baseline chronic pain can be a reason for concern! You had every right to go to the ER and be treated. This was NOT NORMAL FOR YOU whether you have endo or not, it was not normal FOR YOU. So the fact that he was annoyed that you were in the ER is just a load of crap. Even if it was "just endo," you were still in an absurd amount of pain that deserved some reason for concern.

I do not take iron supplements. They are too hard on my stomach thats why I am still anemic a year after my surgery and cant take the iron infusions either. As far as the stomach... who knows no one has ever mentioned ulcers or anything like that to me do those cause bloating? Or constipation? Since the only thing to doc looked for was the obstruction I have not ct scans which would prob show something like that? Im going to be asking a ton of questions once I see a doc. The GI docs receptionist never even called me back today which really upset me too. I get he is in procedures for the day but a call back would be nice. This entire situation has been a wreck. First time I felt in a long time neglected by my docs!
Forget all the questions I just asked. I looked up ulcers and black stool, pain at night, loss of appetite, nausea and weight loss are symptoms. I have been experiencing all of these for the last month. I will post more once I talk to the docs.

Saw GI doc today. #1 mistake the ER made was telling me to take demerol I did not listen which is a good thing bc doc said where I am at with this situation a obstruction could of been brought on with that medicine. Doc said when anyone is constipated you do not tell to take a med that causes it. #2 The xray shows very little a CT should have been ordered on me. So here is where I am at with this now... I am ordered to take 2 doses on bentyl today I need to bowel cleanse from the top down as the stool is in my colon right now that is why I am so bloated. Its just sitting there and to get it to move miralax is not gonna do it so I will be using Magnesium citrated along with 2 little orange pills tonight and 2 little orange pills 2morrow if I do not have a BM I am to call doc by noon 2morrow. Doc is also running a blood test for Celiac Disease and is almost 100% positive I have this. Next week once my bowels are cleaned out from this prep I am going to get a CT scan to see if my endometriosis is strangling the bowels. Suggestion is to get a bowel specialist to work on removing the endo but the doc said plenty of woman do not do that and are still treated with Amtiza a drug used often for these types of issues and Bentyl for the pain and cramping. If it is strangling the bowels the CT will show it and we can go from there. Doc checked for blood and said I was OK also said the black stool could of been old stool stuck in my bowels that was released and it is black when it is old too. My body is hanging onto my stool for whatever reason but doc is sure we can fix it or atleast make me comfortable. Im going into work today at 4 and will start the process with the prep about 8. Wish me luck~

glad you got in with the GI doc. How does a CT show the bowel endo? My doctor and I have both been doing research to see if there was some way to see that without surgery. I would love some more information about that! They did an ultrasound on me which the tech herself said wouldn't show anything so big waste of time. Oh and I saw you asked, YES ulcers can cause big bloating and if you clean everything out and are still bloating you should ask your GI doctor about ulcers.

Ct does not show endo. It does however show the bowel is kinked or strangled. The endo can not be seen but what endo does to the organ can be seen on ct. Im pretty confident that the GI has it all handled. Celiac Disease is something my Lupus doc mentioned last year but I never looked into it. I show signs of it apparently but no one ever did the test til now. Just like endo, lupus, celiac hides and can be confused with other problems like IBS. We discussed ulcers and the doc doubted that was the case but a CT will show if I have one. My doc went down the list of what a ulcer does and bloating was not one of them but my other symptoms were. My potassium levels, anemia, bloating, gastro issues with wheat, easy bruising all are signs of celiac. I will wait and see what doc says...

okay, that makes sense... but it would still show any hinky kinks caused by the ENDO. Good to know as I've been trying to get a CT for my belly. I also had the Celiac test... one of many. Didnt show anything on me but according to the Dian Mills book a lot of people with Endo do also have Celiac disease so its a good thing to look for.
