Jenaya - regarding your question about long-term use:
I take them only at onset, or as soon as possible after onset of symptoms. Barbs pose an addiction risk. With that comes the danger of liver damage. If I feel something going on that may trigger a migraine, but hasn't triggered one, yet, I take other approaches to stave the migraine off. Sometimes, it works (removing myself from a source of stress, popping a few midol if I catch it really early, and sometimes, alka-seltzer fizzy tabs, for when it's got the allergy component, and on a few occasions, taking a muscle relaxer before the pain spreads from the neck or jaw).
I had a friend who probably still has to take hers 4-6 times a day, and it's been that way for... I'm thinking almost 10 years. Hers I think got worse when she got a back/neck injury from a fall from a zipline. But that's pretty extreme.

Mine got worse after a neck and head injury too. I am not touching the stupid barbituates. I'd rather have my birth control work! I stopped taking the fioricet. I still got a migraine so why bother? All I'm doing is putting crap into my body that's not necessary. I'm going to make an appointment with an acupuncturist soon. I'm done with these docs.

Day 2 of having a migraine. It's not nearly as bad as yesterday. I feel like absolute sh*t. I have 6 hours straight of class which includes a 3 hour physics lab. I have no idea how I'm gonna get through it. I've taken so many pills I'm probably in liver failure. There comes a point where the pain gets so bad that you get desperate. I'm going to try to get to an accupuncturist after school today. I can't take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I got an appointment with the top researcher at NIH in acupuncture. He came from bejing, china and is also an MD along with a traditional chinese medicine doc. I'm excited! He's a professor at Georgetown for holistic medicine and he also treats white house staff. HAHA he must be good! I'm only afraid about the cost. I didn't ask how much it was going to be. But I'm so desperate to get rid of these migraines that I'll take out a freakin loan if I have to. I'm tired of being disabled by these things, missing school, missing exams, spending days at a time in bed. It's rediculous!

Glad you got in and to a top doc too. I read that drinking lots of water can help from getting them. Sometimes its worth every penny no matter what it costs as long as you feel better. I hope it works for you. If I did not have my midrine not sure what I would do. My migraine is a indicator that a seizure is near. Good Luck with the new doc keep us informed.

I read up more on your doc and he sounds awesome good luck. Tell us all about your experience after you see him. I started to get a sick headache today after we chatted and I thought OMG I think I could have a seizure. I can kinda tell with my headaches if I will go into a episode I have learned the signs so I called my hubby he picked up Jacob from run club and came home right away. I realized I had not taken my neurotin for the day I usually have it by 1 each day and although I only take 300 mg Jenaya will prob laugh at this one its a pediatric dose but after I took it I felt 10 times better well my head did so atleast I know it is working and can help with the headaches before a seizure it may not work everytime but today it did. Last time I saw my neurologist he showed me the typical dose of that drug people take sometimes over 2000 mg can you believe this I was on 100 mg then they bumped me up to 300 which is what a child the age of 8 prob gets maybe a 40 pound kid. So I am a 100 pound adult light weight!
