This is really freaky. I noticed that I became severely dried out vaginally (and all throughout my body) by taking the birth control pill (especially continually for 5 years!!!). I did not know there were studies on this that show that the cervical crypts (responsible for cervical mucus (lubrication) actually do dry out and atrophy and may actually never fully regenerate! Having a baby actually rejuvenates the cervix by a couple years, but 3-12 months on the pill ages the cervix by one year! Mannn, the things the docs don't tell you! Here's one of the links about this! www.billings-ovulation-method.org.au/act/cervix/ageing.shtml

That should be in the notes along with all the other risks, as they rate the chances of developing breast cancer slightly higher if you're on some pills, but not enough to worry about? They should certainly tell you about this!

I totally think so!!!! I also think that the info in the packages should say that missing a pill can induce ovulation...not just that you may become pregnant. Obviously, that means that it has to induce ovulation if you can become pregnant...but I'm the dumbass who didn't put that together until after I got a + preg. test! I wasn't "on" the pill...I just took one pill on the first day of my period, thinking that I might go back on them...So I took one pill and missed the rest.

Wow I didn't know that either... and I've had plenty of doctors try to talk me out of a pregnancy test cos they claimed it takes the body at least 6 months to get back to normal enough for you to even ovulate properly. Whatever properly means That they don't tell you these things is very worrying!

Are you kidding me??? That is the one thing about the pill that is so "fabulous"...fertility supposedly returns to "normal" most often the very next month! My doctor tells patients to wait at least a month and then start trying for a baby. If you thought you need a test, they should have given you one!

Well it did turn out I wasn't thank god but there again is an example of doctors being too up themselves to believe they could be wrong. I went to the family planning clinic to have it, which is mostly nurses who fully endorse a pregnanyc test if there is the slightest suspicion. It's the luck of the draw really, what a doctor believes and will tell you, which doctor will sit you down to talk about your treatment and which ones will shoo you of the door as soon as your prescription is signed. Thanks for the invaluable info! xx

^No problem!
Yah. Sometimes family planning clinics are the most proactive on everything!!! They'll test for EVERYTHING, including diseases!

I'm 22...that means my cervix has been aged to 25? So basically, I can't rent a car, but my cervix can? I've learned Drs are not the most proactive in the past few months. FINALLY I found a dr that listens and tells me the truth, or at least he makes it all sound good. I have to travel all about an hour for him, but the ride is well worth it. I passed a clot about a month ago. I accidently missed a pill and started to bleed quite heavily, usually that doesn't happen for me...I miss a pill and it has no affect whatsoever. Anywho, skipped a pill, bleed in agony for around 6 hours and passed a large grey clot (sorry for if its tmi...). Took a hpt, came out negative. Went to the dr the next day afraid I had a miscarriage, he didn't even bother checking me...said, "nope! break thru bleeding, your fine!" Mind you I was still bleeding heavy. My new dr said that the bcps could have caused a false negative, and a blood test should've been done as well as a full examine. It honestly amazes me. What if it had been a miscarriage (I think it was by the way the clot looked also the pain was like nothing I've ever felt before!) and it wasn't a full miscarriage. Blah. I hate drs. 'Specially men. Like they know what endo is like

I suspected a miscarriage once, along the same lines as yours tess, but what I saw seemed quite clear to me, very detailed. What I read up on later confirmed my suspicions, a nurse who spoke to me over the phone asked me to describe it and then told me to get straight to a doctor. I didnt go to the doctor cos I was in so much pain, and worried I would be seen as off my head The next week I saw a locum who said it definitely wasn't... no test no nothing. He was the same doc who claimed that although I'd come off the pill just before the possible conception, I couldn't get pregnant cos it would take my body 6 months to recover back to baby making mood. He just said it was probably a small piece of womb lining, result of heavy bleeding after coming off the pill. Blah blah blah. However my gp saw me the week after, listened and confirmed I had at least stopped bleeding, then said I most probably had been pregnant. He has known me since I was 10, and looked quite pained by what I described, or maybe cos I was crying hysterically. It was awful but I felt a little better than I wasn't being treated like a fool. Don't lose faith in the men tess, you may yet find a female doctor who looks at you like you are making it up cos she menstruates 1 teaspoon of ice and doesn't feel a thing! Quite disturbing to come across I promise you! My cervix will have been aged to approx 30 yrs old at least... so she probably looks like it's been smoking cigarettes since it was 12...

I know what you mean cherry...
I still believe strongly it was a miscarriage because of the symptoms I was experiencing. Prior to the bleeding I had sore breasts, wasn't so much sick to my stomach, but just wasn't hungry...and was utterly exhausted. I passed the clot and slowly those symptoms went away. My boobs felt great, we went out to dinner and I ate an entire cheeseburger, and I was able to stay up passed 11pm. While I'm on bcps I have unprotected sex. Condoms burn sooooo bad for me, so yes, there could have been a chance I was pg. We'll never know now, and that actually kills me more than knowing I did not miscarry for sure.
My boyfriend, Joe, looks at things on a positive side and said, "Hey, now we know you can get pregnant!" Poor thing. He tries so hard. lol
And you are right cherry, I did in fact come across a female obgyn who treated my endo like I was pulling the symptoms out of my rear end.
Heh, ok, so you're cervix is smoking and mine is renting cars. Hmm, they can smoke in the rented car....

Heh, ok, so you're cervix is smoking and mine is renting cars. Hmm, they can smoke in the rented car.... If one of you is smoking and the other renting cars, my cervix must be in the geriatric ward after 5 years of continuous bcp's! Do they let cervices with dementia rent cars? If not, I'll take the cigarettes and burn the car to the ground! Damn bcp's! No, seriously. After coming off being on the pill for that long, my cervical mucus would burn like crazy right before and during ovulation. The gross part would be that the mucus wasn't thin and watery or slippery like it should have been--it was like jelly . Took forever and a day for my body to adjust back to "normal." Two of my close friends have also had this same ovulation mucus problem after coming off of the pill. Anyone else?

Just make sure you remember where you park said rent-a-car ;D Oh and yes ::raises hand:: I get odd mucus like that as well. I'm not burning yet, thanks goodness, but when I do...Oh my, I have to go sit in a cold bath or something. Hmm, it's been a few days since I'm off my pill - the cramps are ok so far, but my period hasn't reared it's nasty head. C'mon auntie flow, I want to get this visit over with already.

C'mon auntie flow, I want to get this visit over with already. Ha I like that expression! I also have the strange mucus problem... anyone who didn't know would think Emily had rabies or something (Emily is my vagina, smokes a lot while riding round in rented cars with a demented person in the back) it's thick but other than that healthy... or not there at all. So either like jelly or dry as hell! Mind you I have 8 years of the pill to catch up on so I'm expecting the wierdness to carry on a while! I feel the same about the whole not knowing tess. I mentioned it to a doctor who asked if I'd ever been pregnant, but because I didn't have it verified with a pregnancy test she put it down as no. I was a bit offended cos what happened was horrific but then there was no hard evidence to back it up. To them it was only what you felt and saw, which in their eyes doesn't seem to mean much, no matter how much it hurts. Hope there aren't any further failed pregnancies!
