Does anyone know when your first period comes after your first laparoscopy and whether it is more painful than usual? Mine is due this weekend and I had my lap on Nov 23 (just at the end of the last period). I'm not getting any of the usual signs that it's coming though... eg dark spotting and pre-cramp feelings. thanks.

I'm assuming that if your periods have always been regular, you would most likely get your period when you normally would, unless the stress of knowing that you were going to have a lap messed up your hormones the first part of your cycle this time. A lot of people have weird spotting right after a lap, but that's obviously not a period. If you wind up being late and you're not sexually active right now, then the stress probably just threw you off a bit.

I got my first cycle as on cue as I usually am. It was more painfull, but not to the point of seriousness. I was grouchy and on pain pills, but I could still function as long as no one was mean to me....the mood swings were really bad that month.....I think I cried like five times one day.

I think my lap caused my period to be late. I had light spotting the day of my surgery, but the next day I got a full-on period. I was bleeding just as heavy as one of my normal periods, which is a lot. This bleeding started about a week earlier than it was supposed to.
I also just started my second period since my surgery. My surgery was Dec 1, period started Dec 2 and ended about Dec 10, and my second period post-op started on Dec 27 (which is normal for my cycle, which averages about 26 days).
I wouldn't say it hurts more than any periods pre-surgery, just the same. I was hoping my periods would be less painful, but I guess we can't all be that lucky.

I just had my first period following a lap where some excision was done, but quite a bit of endo was still left. I was disappointed to still have quite a lot of pain (although thankfully my pain was never as bad as for some people). Still, there was pain over 3 days and I had hoped it would be less than before. It just seems to have moved. It's better on the left side where most of the pain was before, but now I have pain in my lower back and on the right side. Oh well. Maybe next month will be different.

I had a 3-month Lupron shot with my 2nd laparoscopy in mid-August and just got my period back last week. It wasn't painful and the bleeding was pretty light compared to before surgery. Before surgery I would be in so much pain and take so many pain pills a day that I would get sick from that and it wouldn't even help the pain. When I got some pain with my period last week I took only 2 pain pills a day for 3 days and the pain went away.

Just got my second period after a lap with excision and I only had heavy bleeding for 1 day, with slight bleeding for 1 day either side. That's very unusual, usually it would be 5 days at least. Do you think it's a good sign? I don't know what to think any more....

I had the misfortune of getting my period the morning of my laproscope, so I can never be sure what was my period or what was regular post-op bleeding.
However, my period went for like 16days or something after it (i dont believe thats normal), i cant know what caused it to happen, coz at the time my periods were irregular and spotting wasnt unusual.

kb, don't think of this as misfortune! You are probably actually very fortunate to have the laparoscopy while on your period! When the implants break down and bleed, that is the easiest time to view them and thus find more endo!

I agree with Ouchy. I was originally scheduled to have my lap while on my period, and I asked my surgeon if it was a concern. She said that from her standpoint, it's actually beneficial because she'd be able to see the breakdown and bleeding of implants.

I guess it totally makes sense, though!
