I've tried about 6 different brands. They all heat the same...the ones I've tried, anyway. I think it's only the sizes and the prices that matter.

yeah definitely, the brand makes no difference I've found, i tried ones by a big ibuprofen company here called neurofen, they were £7 for the pack (about 14 US dollars) and meant to last 8 hours but didn't go the distance, next i tried some much cheaper, £5 for a pack of 3 which were bigger and lasted up to 12 hours. they were much better and hotter so you had to stick them to your underwear so you didn't burn your skin. The ones I like best are when you have to click a little piece of metal in the middle and the clear liquid turns to crystals. They're super cheap and reusable. Hope that helps xx

I've actually tried heating pads a few times and found that it didn't work at all... are you talking about the patched that are hot because they have that 'deep rub' ingredients in them? Those are the ones that didn't work at all...

I've never tried those ones cos I didn't think they work either, they're more for sore muscles i think. There are ones where you take them out of a bag and peel off the backing to stick to your skin or underclothes. Once the air hits them they become activated and start heating. Godd for when you want a hot water bottle type thing. i find them comforting and that's one of the best things for pain relief!

Oh I see!! I've never even heard of those things!! I wonder if we even have them here? The hot water bottle is hit and miss for me.... some days it does nothing and others its relaxing.
You were talking about one that is done by an ibuprofen company - does it actually have ibu in it?

No not as far as I know, think they were just capitalising on the brand name and pain relief thing. I definitely get it about the comfort thing though, a hot water bottle only works on for my menstrual cramps, but if it's endo pain it's just comforting!

Those are the ones that didn't work at all... Oh. I tried those b.s. Tiger Balm stick on heat pads when I had pneumonia. Didn't do anything to me but make my skin feel hot and clammy and gross. These type of heat pads we're talking about work really well, though. No comparison between these and the menthol rub type things.

can you get them at the drugstore?? The ones that I tried are the ones you do peel the back off and stick them on your skin - it did nothing but make me feel even more uncomfortable.

The ones that I use are from Playtex. Heat Therapy: Menstrual Cramp Relief. They last up to 12 hours. I believe the cost was like 5 dollars American or 6 Canadians and the box has 3 patches. They are cheap, last all day and they work fine for me.
