Hiya,
I have been getting the normal stabbing pains around my ovaries recently but they have been much worse than normal. Sometimes is so bad I feel like going to accident & emergency to get something for the pain (they normally give morphine when I have been before). I don't take pain killers normally mainly because they don't do anything but also because the pain is always there and I won't live on drugs is I can help it!
I was just wondering how bad the pain has to be for you before you will go to hospital? I feel like i'm wasting everyone's time as I know what wrong with me and there is nothing they can do about it.
Sorry that was meant to be short!

I've always had lots of pain with my periods, but never at any other time of the month. All of a sudden I had a period that was so bad I literally thought I might be dying. I was blacking out, sweating, dizzy, shaking, cramping-like-crazy, and couldn't walk. So I called for an ambulance. That was the start of my ongoing endo issues, which now cause me varying levels of pain for 14 days out of every month. They offered me a vicodin (sp?)prescription.
Have they prescribed anything for you? That way you could use it only on the occasions you choose. Maybe an ER visit would prompt them to give you a prescription, like they did for me.

If I can't walk, stand up straight, or move out of the fetal position, I call for help and go the ER. Nobody should have to be in that much pain. Those trips were actually the only time I was taken seriously. The doctors were able to see first hand, while it was occuring, how bad it was. None of us like having to depend on the pain medicine, but there are times when it does help to have a pill on hand to control the pain, before it hits peak level. I hope this helps. Good luck. I never went to the ER, I simply demanded to see my OB/GYN quite often till they figured out what was wrong with me. I don't like the ER cause I feel they are stretched to thin. I didn't want to just hide the pain I wanted to be sure of the reason. At the time I was really afraid of ovarian cancer with my symptoms and I wanted to know for sure. I am with you on the fact that I won't live on pain meds. If it is bad I would continue to see my specialist until its better, but thats just me, I'm not a fan of the ER.

I have already been diagnosed and seen my specialists, they have said there is nothing else they can do at the moment.Just keep trying the medication I am on. I have been to A+E twice before when the pain was so bad I couldn't walk. In all honesty I don't think there is anything wrong in going to A+E if the pain is that bad. Just thought I would see everyone else's experiences

hi i get my pain mostly all the time, and maybe alittle extra when it's my period, but it's ususally the normal period pain, sometimes i cant touch my tummy, i hate it the most when it goes from one side to the other and once it hits my legs and back i have to lie down, i have not yet found antpainkillers that will help with the pain, my doc says the same each time which is we know the problem but cant do anything else, and i find myself waiting for the doc to arrange another op, these days he hardly examimes me as soon as i describe the pain he just says endo lets get you booked for surgery, or should i say appointment first to see if it is endo and all they do is poke and press ,i scream and have to wait another few months for them to say yes lets do an op, i here you all talking about what stages your endo is at but i dont understand that and i too are very scared of ovary cancer. lou xxx

Louise,
My endo is only stage one - the only reason I know is because I was told after my lap in Feb. I have found from talking to the other women and through some research that the amount of pain you are in doesn't always depend at what stage your endo is at... I don't know if others would agree?
I don't really know about painkillers because I try and avoid taking them as much as possible. I take Paramol which is codine and paracetamol, although I did hear that codine is not good for endo. I can't take ibroprofen as I have asthma so I don't know how effective that it.

I have made a few trips to the er and now I discovered when its so bad that I can't walk I take a percacet or a norco and grab the heating pad, all they ever do in the er for me is give me a shot and send me home
I ran up alot of emergency co-pays that way, so you can save a good pain killer for those really bad days and apply as much heat to your pelvis as possible I have accidently burned my skin the pain was so bad I didnt realise the heating pad was to hot I wish I had a spa on those bad crampy days that would feel really good
only you can decide how much pain is too much we all have different pain tolerance levels usually when it gets to be constant I go in for another lap and they clean me out I hope you get some reliefe

Thanks for all your replies. I only had a lap in Feb this year and one 2 years before that. The pain is getting so bad again that I am feeling deperate to have another lap but I know that last time I was only pain free for about a week! Just not worth it yet

I asked my primary doc that same question today... If its normal for me to have severe pain, How do I know when to go to ER or have problem checked out? She told me that warning signs are fever or pain that doesn't follow noraml pattern, such as not letting up in the amout of time it normally does. And that is what was happening with me, So I'm going thru tests now because I had abnormal discharge , pain that was more intense than usual that lasted longer than usual and was accompanied by dizziness, constipation, and feeling that couldn't completely empty bladder. But all that has gone away now and I'm only having the normal right side stabbing pain plus some loose bowel movements. So far, cultures and ultrsound tests have come back normal. I'm ready to have a hysterectomy to get this over with, but from what I've been reading, thats not a sure cure either.

I went to the ER in Jan. becasue I was in sooo much pain, I could'nt stand it. I was almost blacking out from it and could'nt move out of the fetal poisiton. I kept crying and shaking and finally told me DH to take me to the ER. all they did was give me vicodins and a Rx for some and told me to call my gyn in the a.m. I hate having to take pain killers to function, not even like they help with the pain. I had surgery not long after that and wou'dnt you guess my pain is back again and much worse. I don't know what to do I can't take it anymore

I am in stage 4 I have excessive Endo and it is the worst my Dr has ever seen. I have read a lot of info on endo and have figured it out it doesnt matter waht stwage oyu are in as a lot of people dont have signs of endo. It took the drs here quitea while to figure this out for me which in a way I am glad to hear it is not all in my mind and that there is somthing wrong but unfortunatly It will never go away. My future sister in law had to have a partial hyst done due to cysts and when they tested her uterus they found out she had endometriosis. And she never knew. I feel the only way they know what stage you are in is by haveing a lap done. I heard it is better and easier to control the pain if it is caught in the beginning instead of like mine which I hear from others a hyst wont work but I am in the state of mind that ill try anything so I can be off my pain killers. I am on them every 4 hours every day I am worried my liver is gonna be the next to go as I am taking vicoden and percocet so hopefully my gyn does somthing soon I wish the best for you Take care Im here if you wanna talk

Louise - Below is the definition of the stages of endometriosis. My doctor said I have stage 4.
Endometriosis is categorized in four stages based on the severity, location, amount, depth and size of growths.
Stage 1 - minimal disease, superficial and filmy adhesions Stage 2 - mild disease, superficial and deep endometriosis Stage 3 - moderate disease, deep endometriosis and adhesions Stage 4 - severe disease, deep endometriosis, dense adhesion The stages of the disease do not indicate the level of pain, infertility or symptoms.

I have been to the ER so many times it's unbelievable because of my symptoms. I almost went last month during my period because I was bleeding VERY heavily (more than usual) was light headed and had such severe leg pain I couldn't walk. I was actually laying in fetel position in the bath tub while the shower was on because I couldn't stand up to shower myself. Plus I couldn't eat and lost 5 pounds in 4 days. I didn't go to the ER though because I know that all they will do for me because I have endo is give me the lowest dose of vicodin, which I already have and tell me to go to my GYN. One time they gave me morphine but that didn't do anything for the pain; all it did was make me VERY dizzy and tired. I have Vicodic for pain and Klonopin which works only half the time. Last night was the first night of my cycle this month and I had such severe stabbing pain in my stomach/pelvic/buttock area I couldn't get off the toilet (sorry if that's too much info). It took me 20 minutes before I could stand up and get myself into bed and I talked myself out of going to the ER again. I've given up on going to the ER, it's a waste of time for me.
