This is an odd question has anyone ever heard of endometriosis coming out of your body or having the lesions on the outside? I had a bright blue bulge the size of a nickel come out right were I had my c-sec. ( I had one 12 years ago and a second 7 years ago) It popped and my surgeon just cleaned the area and opened it slightly so it would heal..I felt great NOW I just got my period and again I felt the pain and in the same general area I have what looks like another lesion/blood blister. My first obgyn in Sept said I had endo without so much as an exam.I had a hard lump under my skin in the c-sec area and thats what he chalked it off too. He put me on the pill and said lets see in 6 months. Now I making an appt to see a new dr. Mind you I had an MRI and no place in the report did it mention endo...would it have shown up in an MRI?? I am so terribly confused and tired of being in pain. All my pain is on the outside, I have no cramps or excessive menstrual bleeding...I found a picture on this site that showed endo inside and it exactly looked like what I had on the outside. But I can't figure out how to insert it. Hope someone has heard of this.

I hadn't heard of it coming out until I saw a picture yesterday. It is a picture of endo of the bellybutton, so it is on the outside of the woman's body, although it doesn't appear to be a bump. It does make sense that it would come from the C-section scar, since that is an area that endo would be and so it could infiltrate the wound so a tiny cell sewn in becomes a larger problem over time. Endo of any form is rarely seen on MRI or other scans. It is just too small. But you said this was a bump? How big was it? Anyhow I will try to post the pic, and if not I will post the link.

thanks for the pic, mine doesn't look like that. If I could figure out how to post the pic of what I found it would be good. I was surprised to hear that you can't see endo with an Mri or Sonogram, I thought I read someplace that you could. I was reading about the surgical procedure of a laproscopy it sounds painful, I don't think I am mentally ready to undergo yet another type of surgery...I was cut two times in Dec both in the same place so the side could drain...that put meoff my feet for 3 weeks and it was really hard with the kids...I am thinking of trying the castor oil with lavendar packs to see if it reduces the swelling. Its amazing how this can happen at any age. I am 37 and had a c-sec 7 years ago...so far most people I have spoken with have suffered since they were teens or in their early 20's..

Can't you just post the link? Do you know how to do that?

Talia, Laparoscopy is not painful at all. You are normally in and out in the same day. You may have to rest for a couple of days, but it is not painful for the most part. The pain it relieves is well worth it. Good luck. Lynette

My laps have not been painful at all. In fact, I felt so much better after the first one that I came home from the hospital the same day and did 2 loads of laundry and ironed both loads! I had so much energy, because I felt so much better!

C-sections don't cause endometriosis, but they can stir it up, as in disturb it cause it to attach somewhere new, and yes it can get in the scar tissue, but 7 years is a long time for it to be there and just now come up. I got a large pimple like thing on my lap scar and I squeezed, got some not so pleasant stuff out and that was that its fine now. I just assumed its a scar tissue thing.

I am reading a book on endometriosis right now, and it says that if any of the endometrium gets caught in the incision from the c-section, it can cause endometriosis wherever the pieces attach...mainly the outside of the uterus, or even the incision in the tummy.

Yeah, I just read in a book that c-sections CAN cause endometriosis. I have not heard of what you are describing, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out. I have heard of rare cases where women have had endometriosis growing externally on their genitalia, so maybe it can grow in other locations as well. I also know that the endometrial implants respond to hormones from the ovaries and that they break down and bleed every month when you have your period. Have you experienced anything like that? About diagnosis--laparoscopy is the ONLY way to diagnose endometriosis. It sometimes shows up in ultrasounds, but not often because it's so small. I know it's easy to imagine it being big because it causes so much trouble, but it's usually quite tiny and sometimes microscopic. If you have a laparoscopy you probably won't experience much pain because most people don't, but for the sake of giving you a balanced and honest view I will tell you that my laparoscopy was very painful and had me completely off my feet for a few days. It doesn't go well for everyone, but at its worst I'm sure it's nothing compared to a C-section. If you survived that, I'm sure you'll do fine with a laparoscopy!

Lap is not the only way to be diagnoised with endo. I was diagnoised by a biopsy. The scar tissue I'm guessing showed up on an ultrasound and then in a mri. They thought I had a cancerous tumor unti lthe biopsy confirmed endo. The "mass" was 2.5 cm big and was picked up by both methods. Good luck,

yes, but endometriosis showing up on an ultrasound or mri is very rare. even on the rare chance that an ultrasound or mri picks it up, more is needed to confirm, such as through direct observation with laparoscopy, many times of which they will actually remove a little piece of suspect tissue to send to the lab (much like a biopsy)... glad you were lucky to have yours show up like that. Hope they got all of it. Did you have any further look inside? Often times endometriosis is in more than once place. Only the largest and thickest of endometriomas will show up on ultrasound or M.R.I. Best of luck.

A gal I talked to at the Endometriosis Association, said that they are hoping to be able to diagnose endometriosis with a blood test, in the next couple of years. Won't that be a nice help for women.
