I didn't have one but i know some people here have done, i was just told not to eat or drink. Sometimes I'm in pain constantly day after day, and it makes me so miserable. I noticed this when I had a mini menopause hormone treatment, maybe cos i knew it was endo and didn't have to ignore it, or may the treatment made my symptoms worse. I don't get so much of the aching all day now, but i do get a lot of sharp stabbing and poking pains around my bladder, vagina and womb area, and on my lower left and aching at least once each day. Don't be nervous bout your lap though, hopefully they will be able to eliminate what is causing so much pain and you can specify what you don't want to happen such as if they consider removing anything. There's a few topics, you can pick out bits of advice from people's posts, like i think it'd be good to take an overnight bag cos i needed mine, and also some mints in case you get gas pains and some crystalised ginger for nausea etc, but don't be put off by little horror stories, the vast majority probably go well cjlevett.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=surgery&action=display&thread=1111029760 and cjlevett.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=surgery&action=display&thread=1154885378Good luck on Friday, hope they help you as much as poss xx

I had chronic pain that was getting worse all the time before my laparoscopy too. It's good that you're going to have it soon, because even if it doesn't make you feel better at least you will know for sure what is causing the pain and if there is anything life-threatening it can be taken care of. I had to do two enemas before my surgery. I didn't realize it was avoidable! If the idea of not doing one makes you nervous you can always just pick one up at the drug store. And like cherry said, read those other threads! They will give you a good idea of what to expect, though of course everyone's experience is different. Most people do have a positive experience. My post is first and I had a bad experience, but it probably won't be like that for you!

I also had pain alllllllllllllllllll the time before my first lap.
I guess I was lucky. I didn't have to have an enema before either of my laps. I did have to do one before I had a sigmoidoscopy, though.

hmmm, I think I'll get my gynaecologists email address, what a great idea! But seriously, try not to worry and enjoy the little rest you're entitled to in the days after. I think you can ask to see a video of your lap, so mention it at your pre lap checkup. It may help you deal with whatever you find out, and you can see what is going on. i think some people feel better if they can identify what 'it' is. Me, I just give things funny names!

i too, started to have more painful days than non-painful days. that is why i went with the lap...and lupron. i had to drink that golytely stuff before mine. it makes sense that your intestines need to be cleaned out in case they get nicked or something. just a good precaution, although not very fun. i know it is easier said than done...not worrying about your lap. just try to relax as much as possible. once the nurse puts the IV in, ask your doc about giving you something to relax you. they usually will, and it does help.
best wishes

Hi ladies, I just want to say again how thankful I am to have found so many women who know what it all feels like! I too have been experiencing more severe pain in the past few months. At first I thought I could handle it, or that it was in my head. I thought that if I ignored it I wouldn't notice it. It wasn't until I came here that I truly realized that I'm not crazy and that the pain is very real. I have my appointment tomorrow now to find out when I can get in for another lap. (I've had 3 already). I just know that I won't feel any better both physically or mentally until I have this done.
One question that sounds silly, and I'm not sure whether this is the place to ask, but have any of you felt an aching/tugging feeling in the area around the vaginal opening during your period or otherwise? Or sharp pains in the colon area?? I feel crazy asking, but I figure this is the only place I can ask without people laughing at me.....

Yes and yes! And it's defo not IBS for me cos I've just been checked for it. I have sharp stabbing pains around my vaginal and anal openings, it's embarrassing if you suddenly get a pain cos I don't feel too nice telling my boyfriend that! I get a lot of tugging pains and such, sometimes where it feels like something is wrapped around my insides! The stabbing pains down low especially during periods though, have always wondered what it is! Hope you get your lap angelas xx

I always had severe period pain. Then it started to be the week of my period, then it started to be all the time, 8 months later I had my lap because my first dr didn't believe there was anythign wrong with me. so yes I had pain, bloating, etc everyday for 8 months before my lap. Little to no pain after I healed. I got the mirena IUD for birth control 4 months later and haven't had a period since, really no pain. Was having occasional twinging pain but a month ago I seriously started working on exercising and all pain is gone.
As for prep I only had to do an enema for lap to partial clean bowels to they'd be out o the way. I had to do a full prep for a colonoscopy but not for a lap.

Cherry - thank GOD you know exactly what I'm describing!! I seriously had to fight with my doctor to have him agree to do the lap... not before an ultrasound though - it showed a cyst the size of a plum on my right ovary. A chocolate one. I find out in 2 weeks when I can be booked in. I'll be posting in the other threads with more details on the appointment! Again, thanks for your reply and putting my mind at ease that I really am NOT crazy!! ahha!

Hi ihurt =) According to my doctor, they like to give enemas before a lap so that your intestines are not full, the intestines are less likely to be in the way, and it decreases a risk of any possible knicks; and if there is a puncture, nothing will flow into your abdomen.
As for pain all the time, it doesn't happen often in me but it is right now. I went and had an ultra sound and they found a cysts and some irregular tissue. I am in pain every day and keep getting sharp pains as well. Endometriosis is not confirmed in me yet, I will know for sure April 9th when I get my lap. Good luck with you and I hope you feel better!

Hi dee34! I too have lost a lot in my life due to my ability to handle pain. I haven't experienced the same as you as far as my uterus goes though. I know they've said mine is abnormally small but thats all. I have had endo (diagnosed) for almost 9 years now... and it took 2 years for them to diagnose it. The pain that was the worst back then was pain with sex. Now its just pain all the time, everyday. Have you been diagnosed with endo yet? Have you had a lap done?

Angelas I have had surgery Crohans when i was 17 and i was to have Lap 3 years ago but the doctors changed there mind as they where afraid they might damage an organ scar tissue But I am going to see Doctor in April who specialist in Endro and retroverted uterus so I am HOPING he can and well help and listen to me I am now 34 and want to know what is going on once and for all, just to know whats in there inside helps , and then can treat it My sister had cancer in the uterus and had a hyster a week ago and dad had colon cancer now and having ceamo and will out of 4 sisters i am the only one left with a uterus as all have had problems with there female organs Cancer and crohans is in our family and cousins etc. It makes me upset thats not enough for a doctor to go inside and look :-( I have pain every day and now my periods have stopped 4 months ago and feels like i am having a period with out bleeding, pain-bloated-back pain-groin pain-constipated-etc and nothing (periods) which is like i have a blockage I just want what every woman on this site wants A LIFE , we deserve to be listened too . Men wouldnt be able to go trough the pain we have , and if doctors only listened and did more research about ENDRO , the OBGYN doctors are not up to date with all the research of pelvic pain . I went to see a high Main Managenent Docotr a few weeks ago and all he said "was go on anti -depressants" and that would help ya right, not my head thats wroung We know our bodys and when some thing is wroug with it ! My sister who had cancer was told by a doctor to go on BC and come back in a year thanks GOD another doctor listened to her and she had a biospy and found out she had cancer , she is 37 and is a fit ,healthy woman and had cancer We all have to keep moving on to find someone to listen I am so tired looking for that Doctor but I hope April 6th will be the docotor for me Good Luck woman out there we need to keep looking for that one doctor And i wish every one on this site all the best and good luck with your health Health is wealth ! Thanks for reading this hope it makes sense?
