I went to my doctor today for the pain I've been having and because I was in so much more pain last period. He has prescribed me morphine, not much, but some to try for when the pain is really bad. I took it as I'm willing to try anything once, but has anyone taken morphine at home before? I know they give it to you in hospital but wasn't sure how common it was for at home. If there's another thread then point me there but I couldn't find it! Sorry if I'm being a bit stupid but I'm always nervous about taking medicine!! Thanks

I have taken LOTS of dilaudid which is synthetic morphine. I have to take it with phenergan otherwise it eats my tummy. Also please take stool softeners with it.
I am super glad they're finally taking your pain seriously! ps didlaudid worked great for me short term. don't tell your friends you even have it, all the addictive personalities will quickly overwhelm you. Just keep em to yourself lol....

Stool softeners, ok. I'll look up what brands they have over here. I really only want to take it sparingly, but I've found I am very careful with meds to the point where I am being silly. I am spending too much time in pain, and whilst I don't want to be out of it all the time, I should at least be able to sleep and function relatively normally!
I mentioned to my friend I had it and she was far too excited :S

that's what I'm talking about, the party animals taking too great an interest (all of a sudden) in my health lol. Just dont ask dont tell. yeah I took senakot, 2 each time I took 1 2mg dilaudid. Also had to use metamucil. It will really clog you up, worse for us endo girls. For me it was worth it to be slightly stopped up, I ate smoothies, salad, and soup and at least my pain was managed. I'm like you, I stress a LOT about drugs, becuase I've done my share of partying myself, and I know what happens to pill addicts. not pretty AT ALL lol. anyhow, had to separate myself from those people and keep myself to myself or you know they'll even steal from you.... thank god I don't tend bar any more... anyway be careful k but i think it's pretty safe short term. And for those horrible pain days it's nice to know you can escape! you'll still feel pain, it just wont bother you as much, does that make sense?

That's what I'm hoping for - to be less 'obsessed' with the pain when it's really bad. I can cope with the pain to an extent as we all have learnt to, but when I haven't slept and haven't had a decent BM in over a week, it just gets a bit much! And yeah, I will be keeping this to myself and being really strict with it

Gem, see if GP can give you Movicol. Doesn't taste great, but it's a verty gentle stool softener and does the job well. If need be I can post you some :-)

Thank you Helen That's so sweet of you to offer I'll ask about it; I'm not planning on taking it until my next period if I can help it so should have a few weeks to get back there.

I've never had it at home, but in the hospital, it made spiders come out of the walls and my arms (which I scratched all to hell), and I also tried to kick a sweet little nun!

It's great stuff, used from stool softening to fecal impaction, you just use it in different strengths/quantities. Did wonders for me last year. Comes in plain, lemon or chocolate. I've just had the lemon, the idea of it in chocolate grosses me out a bit! I had it after both my surgeries, the last one I had it IV for over 24 hrs, made me very woozy and spaced out and couldn't sleep. I think the stuff you get for home is much weaker and measured though.

Hi Gem I've had it in the past and am on it now, sad to say I'm back on it this week due to endo kicking up 5 notches. I agree stool softeners are a great idea especially because you have such awful bowel issues already. I'm very sensitive to meds especially narcotics and can't even take paracetamol so I understand your need for caution. I advised my GP that I needed to start very slowly so he gave me Oramorph which is a liquid form and I've been given a syringe to take it with as I started on tiny doses as prescribed for children aged 2-4. First day was ok, except I had a full-blown conversation with my cat about how great elephants are, and why wasn't he an elephant, would he consider it? My sister heard me chattering away at 1am and got up to send me to bed. Since then if needed, I have increased my doses in tiny steps, literally by 0.5ml each day as I don't want to end up sick like with the tramadol and paracetamol. Last time I was on it post op, I was taking 10mg Zomoprh capsules with a LOT of other drugs. My poor liver. I was talking to people who were asleep and looked stoned but with very bright shiny eyes = scary. My advice is take it slowly, get the (disgusting tasting) liquid form if you can so that you can control your dosages, snack through the day rather than large meals which seem to sit on your stomach with narcs, the snacking keeps any nausea at bay too. Plenty of fluids and lots of soluble fibre (maybe not so much of the insoluble stuff, I doubt you'll need much bulk with the morphine slowing down and hardening your stools) and if you're experiencing nausea anyway, see if there's an anti-emetic you can take, rather than having to stop the morphine if it's helping you. Any other questions give me a shout

I love the elephant story! Thank you for this, it makes me feel calmer about taking it now. I'll get some stool softeners and set myself up before I take it. I need it when I'm bad as I think I'm trying to just 'cope' rather than accept I'm in stupid amounts of pain! Thank you again

Think I'm going to be on this soon. The pain is getting much worse as the hours go by, and I'm not even on properly yet
