Oh wow well honey use it if you need it. I'm sorry you are in so much pain. I had to have demerol at home its a pain med also mostly used by IV my last surgery tho I was on 100 mg by Iv every few hours it was awful and I was builiding a tolerance so now I do not bother with the pain meds for fear that if I ever have surgery again the meds wont work. Morphine is strong stuff Gem and if you take it will knock it out. Talking to a cat about elephants is something I would take over pain any day.

Gem, it sucks that you're in enough pain to be prescribed morphine... but it WILL work (I'm pretty sure, unless you have a bad reaction to it). I hope you feel better, soon.
Ha, they gave me that stuff after my most recent surgery, and I woke up like, "HURTS CAN'T BREATHE!" And they gave me a little teeny bit, every few minutes... and it was like, "Ah, that's better. Uhoh, I am retarded." That repeated several times for an hour, or so, but it was very effective stuff.

Well, I started taking some yesterday but to be honest, it didn't really do much! I am on 5ml per 4 hours although I started off with half that. I felt awful yesterday though, throwing up and a massive headache so maybe that didn't help. It's 6.30 now and I've been awake in agony for about an hour so just taken 5ml, but my headache and sickness isn't here at the moment so hopefully I'll get a better idea of what it's doing. Maybe it'll knock me out in a minute, that would be nice but it didn't last night and when I finally fell asleep (I took 5ml before bed) I still woke up at 3 in agony!
Fingers crossed the pain will get better, otherwise I'm scr3wed!!

Honey I had to take Phenergan when I took the dilaudid. and I too felt like the dilaudid didn't erase the pain it just made me able to ignore it. And my hubby said the same thing, that the morphine works more on your brain than your pain. Please consult your doctor asap, if it's not working and you're throwing up you need something different or else a drug like phenergan that will help your tummy so you can have some relief.
Also Gem, this sounds more and more like an emergency to me. If you're taking strong drugs at home and not getting relief you need further care. Please, please trust yourself and if your pain is horrid, you NEED help. I know you are tough, don't be too tough honey buns. Worried about you a little bit. P

Thank you Pretty, I've been having a rant over in the bitch fest! Feeling a bit calmer now. The morphine just made me feel sick and didn't knock me out - that's all I really wanted, to be unconscious for the worst parts!

Pretty is right about the anti nausea meds a varitey are out there phenergan, zofran, regulan. Or try ginger, a alcohol pad for the smell to get you thru the yucky feeling. My doc gave me those ideas simple but they work. When I was on tpn I grew to like the smell of alcohol pads I know weird but I smelled it everyday day to change ports and my hepbrin shots that I smelled like it instead of my signature smell of Chanel. LOL I wish you the best Gem a good weekend of unconscious pain free dreaming. And go to ER if you need it being super woman doesnt work out so well sometimes I have tried it.

The simple ideas sound good Keri. After how bad I felt yesterday I just couldn't bring myself to take any more morphine. Silly, I know, but I felt so sick and headachey and the pain wasn't easing that I just thought scr3w it. I doubled up on tramadol and paracetamol and just accepted I was in for a bad night. The worst of the pain has passed now, as it's been three days of bad pain which is usual, so I'm just on the tramadol taking it VERY easy. I managed a shower though and washed my hair!! First in three days, I was too weak to wash, seriously (apart from a quick sink one, lol!!)
Going to the docs Monday and going to have a chat about anti-sickness etc, but have ginger in the freezer so will have a look at that!
