This the first time you've come across pomegranates, or just packs of the seeds? You can also get them out quite easily by cutting in half and bashing with a rolling pin, a la Jamie Oliver. I have known about pomegranates before but never bought one. I was at my local trader joes ( this really cool trendy store, has like 10 aisles but mostly healthy stuff ) and I was buying the field green mix and mushrooms for the week and saw them on the refrigerated shelf and I was like ooohhhhh something new to try. This is the year for me to try all sorts of new FRESH foods. I'm really getting away from most processed items but I had no idea what you do with them. I figured probably put them on salads so I asked the girl and she was like yeah, salads or just eat them as a snack and that's when she said it's cheaper to just buy the whole fruit and remove the seeds myself. I'm so excited! I think I've been back to the fridge 4x today, taking them by the handful! I think this is my new favorite treat!

I adore pomegranates. I buy pomegranate juice. As a kid I used to sit for AGES and pick out the seeds with a safety pin. Then I got clever and just started pulling them out with my fingers, and I'd top them with a fruity yoghurt. All that wonderful, delicious sweet fruity juice popping in my mouth...I love it! Ooooh I want one now! You can get them here in supermarkets 'pre-picked' these days but yeah, they are stupidly expensive if you buy them that way. I love the way they're linked to Greek mythology too.

Well, according to this video, you fill a large mixing bowl with cold water, cut it in half and push out the seeds and this white pulpy stuff rises to the top of the water, just strain that out and it's easy apparently! They said if you do it w.o the water, it's a red mess all over your counter and it stains clothes too apparently. I'm super excited! Dr. Oz had another show on foods and they said to eat the rainbow, all of the colored fruits/veges are so good. I haven't really tried brussel sprouts, those are next. I firmly believe I am fructose intolorant as well, if I have anything that is high on the fructose scale ( apples, pears, oranges, broccoli, cauliflour, any dried fruit ) I get monster wicked gas - not good so I have to avoid those. It's funny because agave is on the forbidden fructose list as well but I'm going to just try it and see how it goes. Oh - back to the pomegranates for a second, another video I saw they rolled the fruit on the counter first to sort of loosen the seeds, then they cut it and removed them by just tapping with a wooden spoon but I think I like the cold water method better. Will try next time I'm at the store. I feel like such a dork but I took a chance and tried something new and found something really neat that I now love! My new method is try it at least 1x and then decide.....there are so many things in the produce section I have never even looked at....next trip to the store should be interesting!

I adore brussel sprouts. At xmas I always ask for the servings of the people that don't like them. I would tend to agree with you on the fructose thing - certain fruits tend to make me feel very bloated, I'm just figuring that one out!

I'm going to try the brussel sprouts next as well. My mom loves them with extra virgin olive oil and some light sea salt. I was so bummed, went to the store to find the whole fresh pomegranates and they are out of season! Who knew! LOL! I did find a store that had them, but I had to pay $2.50 each! I treated myself to 3 of them and did the cold water in a bowl method, so simple and easy! No mess at all from the red juices. The fructose thing was an eye opener for me but makes so much sense. All of the fruits and veges that give me trouble are all ironically high on the fructose list. I'd like to share a link that I found to be very helpful! infonolan.hubpages.com/hub/Fructose-Malabsorption

I have a great snack tip! I love Dr. Oz, and they talked about making popcorn at home. I bought a jar of plain kernels and some regular brown sandwich bags. I put 1/3 cup kernels into the bag, roll it closed and microwave for 1:45 ( obviously all microwaves vary ). I season with just a hint of kosher salt but you can also use coconut oil on it if you like. Yummy and very low cal! Keeps the snack cravings at bay!
