susanne, rice milk is much cheaper than cow's milk in the US. I find rice milk at the regular grocery store.

I'm also extremely confused about the goat cheese question. Does anyone know if it is the lactose only that makes dairy bad for us (little or no lactose in goat's milk, right?) or if it is the fact that it's animal milk (and thus increases estrogen)? And I have a similar question about ghee or clarified butter.. is it ok because the lactose is boiled out?
Thanks, Ruby

I will join into the list of "extremely confused people" about the cow vrs goat milk issue. Is it only because the hormones they give to cows?, or because is protein and this increases estrogen??? In this case no one assures us that they do not give hormones to goats, right?and if it is because of the protein, we should not take any of them including their other forms... saying for example cheese of any kind. I believe lactose is good but this is not the reason why dairy is bad for endo patients. Both cow and goat are animals, so they produce products with protein. About the yogurt, it makes sense to me that the good bacteria produces more good effects than the bad effects of the milk... but still there should be bad effects, since the main source of yogurt is milk. I don't know, I suggest we should go back to read the endo diet carefully. There are some comments suggesting soy milk or soy yogurt... I remember reading soy is the worst enemy of endo patients, isn't it?

I think it's all about figuring out what YOUR body reacts to. Yes, the endo diet can be extremely restrictive and confusing, but try cutting out everything for a while, then slowly add things back in and see how you feel. You'd be amazed at how quickly you can spot foods that cause your body to react when it hasn't reacted to anything for a few weeks while on the diet.

I've only been doing the endo diet for almost a month or so, but my acupuncturist told me that if I wanted yogurt I should try goat's milk yogurt. It's been working well for me. I also drink almond milk and have raw cheese's. That's about it though. I've cut a lot of dairy out of my diet to see if it makes a difference with my pain level. I miss having scrambled eggs.

So, I cut milk out almost two weeks ago, and have only had goats milk yoghurt (can't quite get away with it!). Saying as I tested the wheat thing out on Weds, I thought I'd try the dairy test, so I had some milk this morning with wheat free muesli. And within about half an hour I felt quite nauseous. Not pleasant. So after another day or so I will try the Lactofree milk again and see how I react to that. Then, I'll try some cows' milk yoghurt and see how that goes. It's not pain for me, it's nausea.

Just think it's great that you're putting the pieces together now! Can't wait to see how much better you feel in the long run as a result. I've been off all dairy and yogurt for a year now since they both showed up on my food allergy test and can aleays tell when something sneaks in. I hope you're on your way to figuring it out!

I think I'll be ok with some yoghurts and some cheese, but milk does not like me! The Lactofree one doesn't seem as bad so I might tinker with that.

Ohhh, I'd give anything for organic cows or goats milk dairy products - especially miss cheese and yogurt...all of it causes me pain and spotting. Instead, I happily stick with almond and coconut milk & am a huge fan of the So Delicious coconut milk creamer, yogurt and ice cream line - just wish it wasn't so expensive: www.turtlemountain.com/

I realize this sight is controversial, TOTALLY anti-dairy, but it helped ground me a couple of years ago when I was diagnosed with endo & became enlightened to the ills of dairy: www.notmilk.com/Interestingly, I once saw a commercial for notmilk.com on MTV...

I'm really paranoid about an additive called carrageenan, it's used as a thickener in lots of ice cream, dairy, yogurt and also gets thrown into the "natural flavors" category sometimes so you have to be so careful. If I recall, I bought some coconut yogurt which I really liked but it had carrageenan in it so I stopped buying it. I know the jury is on the fence regarding greek yogurt for the endo diet but I have been buying the FAGE 0% greek cups with the fruit stuff and I called their customer service and it does NOT contain carrageenan so that's usually my afternoon treat with some GF granola mixed in.

You could make your own yogurt using almond/coconut milk! ... Or, sometimes I cheat and buy coconut yogurt from the grocery store (So Delicious brand). It has sugar in it, so I don't have it a lot... but it's delicious!
