Yesterday I went to a old donut shop on the beach and ate a donut. Hmmm you may ask what is she thinking. Well I had to see for my self what exactly sugar would do to me. Its been well over a month on my diet and trust me I feel great. I didnt really even crave the donut. But I am keeping a food journal and want to track what sugar does to me so here is what happend. Ate donut small cream stick with chocolate on top. It was small not the big donuts you see at the chain shops. It was a old shop around since the 1930's. Within minutes by tummy was looking to be about 6 months pregnant. I walked the day with a waddle LOL. Luckly no swimsuit for the day we were just searching for beach glass. I am a tiny girl 5 foot and usually about 108 since I eliminated my carbs and sugar so to have a belly for me everyone can see it. A 5 pound gain for me is like a 10 pound gain to tall girl. Around 9 we headed home about a hr and half drive. This is when the pain started in the car. I ate the donut about 1 and by 9 that evening it was in my bowel area ready for the twisting and turning. My body hates me at this point and my husband is saying why are you doing this again. I came home and immedietly had diarrhea. Sorry so graphic! This morning I went to eat my regular egg beaters and no appetite and tummy is gurgling and sounds like it is yelling at me. The pregnant belly has went down alot but still a little puffy. I feel horrible of course. And today will fight to find a dress to wear to work. Jenaya and I had a nice facebook chat and she found this wonderful link all about the effect of sugar on your body. www.healingdaily.com/detoxification-diet/sugar.htm

A few weekends ago I went on vacation for the weekend and decided to eat whatever I wanted, including several servings of dessert throughout the entire weekend. My near-painless streak was broken and I was in pain for a week! When you don't have any health stuff going on, it's easy to ignore the need to get off it, but when I have it now, the effects are almost immediate and it's SO easy to just stay away now!

I also had been doing so well on the diet, but gave into the vacation foods. I have bloated to another size, have awful gas, lots of pelvic pain and my mood has been evil. My sisters and I have always said we can become an insta-bitch, just add sugar....... I also have Candida so I do sooo crave sugar..... it is truly a addiction yup, it's EVIL!!!!!!

BUT donuts are so... good! With me its coffee, I never used to drink it but I just really like the taste. IT doens't like me at all!! Your problems with belly and bloating are super similar to mine though. It makes me really wonder? Did they do an endoscopy on you at all? When they did mine in Janurary I found out why I had such bad problems with food. I had severe bleeding in my esophagus, stomach and duodonum. The doctor says the bloat that I get is from that.

Is that what happens? I know I react but I didn't realise I could be bloated from sugar too. Man, you guys are a wealth of information.
Omaklackey, I had surgery 2 & a half weeks ago, so thought I would still be bloated from that? Is that possible too? Then gave in at a local cafe (the TASTIEST french desserts) and caved to the carrot cake! Within an hour there was pain like I've never known it and diarrhea (sorry as well) too. I didn't know that was sugar. Could it be a combination of both, that a week after sugar, and two and a half after surgery I look 5 months pregnant when I'm not?! Also had a cyst burst three weeks ago. Do you think it's everything combined? Man, this disease is sooo intense.

The donut really was not that good! LOL Helinor your body is still recovering from you surgery so the bloating maybe a combination. Sugar will cause so many different issues check out the link Jenaya found. I think for us endo girls we have to be extra careful and if we want to manage our symptoms just stay way from the EVIL stuff. We do have so many other options tho of GOOD stuff to eat and once you give yourself the time to adjust to going without the sugar you will not crave it as much. I figure if it takes not eating sugar to experience a better life I am going to do it.
Omaklackey I do have esophagus problems unrealted to food tho every few years I need it expanded I have what is called a nut cracker esophagus it closes up and I will have trouble breathing. When it happens they go in to expand.
The bloating is very common with bowel endo which I have. It is obvious by my donut experiment that carbs and sugar is a culprit. I also know that chicken with the skin or potato's will do it too. My doc suggested a food journal I suggest it to everyone on the board it will help you track your symptoms so much better.

For me, SUGAR = 8-10lbs of water retention.
Sugar makes me bloat more than salt does! It's EVIL EVIL EVIL! I used to fluctuate in 8-10 from day to day and never understood why. I used to get so damn frustrated! Obviously sugar is a big culprit, but I also started the insulin resistance diet which basically limits carbs and tells you how to combine proteins with carbs to keep your insulin levels stable. Ever since I started the diet, my weight no longer fluctuates like that unless I eat something super sugary. That website I found, geez it scares the crap out of me. I hate sugar now. I avoid it like the plague. It's just not worth it to me anymore.

Today is the first day I feel back to the way I usually feel. 3 days to get it out of my system. Like Jenaya said its just not worth it anymore. I checked my sugar and have been at a good normal level 93. My dietician would be so proud of that. At times it was so high I would not even disclose the level to anyone. The fluctuation in weight is not a issue either. Nice to know what I buy will fit everyday as long as I control my sugar intake.

I should add that though I thought sugar was the culprit for a long time, I also found I have food allergies to gluten, egg whites, cow's milk, and yeast. Most of the things I ate that were loaded with sugar were also loaded with at least one of those things, so something else for you ladies to keep in mind. There could be other culprits as well! But, if you stick to a good, healthy diet (as I know you are, Keri!), a lot of possible food allergies can be avoided anyway!

Fructose can also be a culprit, as harmless as it seems!

Can someone help clarify - is bad fructose the processed stuff that gets added as a sweetener, or are we talking the stuff that's in fruit? I had some banana today and felt a bit of a bloat
