My neighbors below me in my apartment smoke, and the smoke comes billowing into my apartment and it just infuriates me because I get really sick from cigarette smoke.
Well.... today I found a little colony of stink bugs breeding on my patio and decided to take them all and sweep them onto the people's patio below me. hehehehehhehee is that bad?

Never had a heroin habit, but I think in someways it's harder to quit smoking. It's legal and you can buy the damn things anywhere. It's more socially acceptable than shooting up in public, and because of all these things........well, I can't imagine the agony of quitting heroin, but I think with smoking not being quite so stigamatised, not quite so life destroying (not meaning the cancer isk, just the fact that most smokers function with jobs, families etc, heroin addicts not so much) as heroin then that makes it somehow mentally harder, do you know what I mean?

wow yeah, that makes total sense! I never thought of it like that. I guess socially, it is way harder. I was kinda taking the "brain chemistry" approach to it. Like the withdrawl symptoms are about the same. I really admire people who quit smoking. I hear how hard it is!

Well I think that's where the difference is pretty huge to be honest. As far as physical withdrawal goes, it's barely noticeable with cigs. You get a bit twitchy and agitated, but with quitting smoking it's all about the psychological dependency you think you have. If approached in the right way, quitting smoking doesn't have to be too difficult. Allen Carr's books are fantastic for helping you see the light! That's not to say it's not a struggle, I've been trying to quite for at least 15 years, and tried probaly over a hundred times, but it can be done!

My dad's been smoking for 40+ years, though he's cut back a lot. He's tried to quit millions of times, even tried chantix (sp?), but he said he just loves the taste of a cigarette. My dad's a very logical person, very even keeled, independent, but when it comes to smokes, it's almost like a dependent relationship. Hard to explain...
But, Helen, honestly, I'm super super stoked that you've given them up. How much money have you NOT spent on smokes now?

It's not hard for me to understand. Tobacco companies spend millions on very very clever advertising. Some very intelligent people smoke. We all know it's bad for us, we all know we're spending money on something that could kill us. Why? Well, we have to justify it to ourselves somehow, so we convince ourselves we like the taste, we enjoy it, it relaxes us etc. All a load of crap when you actually really look at it. Champix is the big thing over here, finally a tablet that makes you not want to smoke but the possible side affects etc made me not want to bother.
It's 5.5 months since I quit (I'll celebrate 6 months in Grenada!) and I've just worked it out somewhere around £1026 that I haven't spent on buying cigarettes.....OMG that's so amazing!
