I had a second interview this morning, and I got a job offer this afternoon! And, not only that, it's a good offer with a great company! It's one of the biggest general contractors in the state, they have a great reputation, have remained stable despite the economy so far, the people I've met so far are fabulous, and they have an absolutely beautiful office. Underground parking, too! (Wisconsin winters can be long, and scraping snow and ice off the car after work always sucks...) I'll be doing what I was doing at my previous job before I got laid off, so I'm quite confident that I can pick things up quickly, will like the work, and we even discussed opportunities to move up in the world eventually, which is exactly what I want!
I've been working temporarily at an engineering firm and, although they've expressed interest in hiring me on full time, they've been dragging their feet and misleading me a bit. And they're so freaking quiet there, I've barely gotten to know most of the people. I do feel a bit of loyalty to the few that I've worked closely with, and I know they've appreciated what I do there, but I just don't seem to fit in there. But, there's a certain engineer there that's been showing me extra special attention. I've learned my lesson, though, and won't date someone that I work with, but perhaps once I know when my last day is going to be, I'll have the balls to make a move!
I'm so excited!!!!! I'm actually thankful that I lost my job as I'm quite confident that this will be a better opportunity than my last job ever was.

Thanks, girls! I'm super stoked. Officially accepted today, now I just have to coordinate with the temp job and see when I can actually start.
Just found out my old job laid off more people today. They're now on round 5 of layoffs... They have less than 50 people left, but have laid off more than 70... SO GLAD to be out of there!
(Oh, and Helen, this is also a RAVE area, too! Not just for rants!)

Finished up my last day at the temp place yesterday, and I have a week off until I start the new place. Sometimes, I'm so focused on what I'm doing that I kind of fail to realize the impact it'll have on me. I woke up this morning thinking holy crap, I'm technically unemployed again at the moment! I have a big honey-do list for myself, but now I'm wondering how the hell I'll spend the next week...
Kind of had mixed emotions yesterday. The temp job has been saying all sorts of good things about me ever since I said I was leaving, and the president of the company of all people told me yesterday he thought I should reconsider. So it was kind of sad. But, the job they wanted to hire me for and the duties I was doing were 2 totally different things, with no guarantee that they'd match up eventually, and I just wasn't as passionate about the industry.
On another note, an engineer and I have been flirting heavily since I gave my notice... He has my contact info and I think it's just a matter of time...

Yeah karen...congrats on the new new job and potential beau!
I completely understand the whole mixed emotions thing. Im on medical EI and allowed to be till Dec 28th. I was offered a fantastic job yesterday with a very well known company. The thing is, it starts Dec 7th. Although im not in the boat you are...stay at one or go to the other....im stay home or go back to work. The mixed emotions thing weighs very heavy on the mind.

Wow - that's GREAT news, Pamela! Is there any way you can negotiate to start a bit later to give yourself a bit more time to heal? Or at least start part-time for a few weeks? I know a few more weeks at home would be great, but having something lined up and stable long term would be great, too. Do let us know what you decide!!
