OMG i am sooo angry right now and i think my stress levels have gone through the roof. Im feeling great today and my new meds are doing a wonderful job so i decided to go shopping for new jammies and slippers for my hospital stay. It fely great buying something for myself for once. As im shopping, my cell phone starts going off and i instantly recognize the number of my 14yr old son's school(which was an hour away from where i was shopping). Its the Vice Principal. "This is Mrs. Davidson calling, you're son was truant from 3rd period and he and another boy were observed outside smoking what looked like a joint. As our policy allows, we asked him to empty out his backpack and we found a bong and a pipe, both recently used with marijuana. You need to come pick him up and he will be suspended for 5 days" OMG are you kidding me? I almost called the police to be there when i picked up my son so i wouldnt kill him. We live in the middle of nowhere and nobody in my house smokes pot. Is murdering your children still illegal? LOL. I wouldnt kill him ever but what to do?

Oh! I just had an idea. I went to visit my friend in alcohol rehab. The place was actually rehab for both alcohol and drug abuse. Take him to one and show him the "bobble heads." Seriously. There are some people there with fried brains and their eyes look like there is no brain attached to them, and their heads really bobble from side-to-side!!!! It may scare the crap out of him so that he never touches drugs again.

Iill call around and definately look into that. Thats a great idea. For some reason i thought the first serious issue would of been him getting someone pregnant...lol

I have a 12yr old boy so at least i'll know what to expect when he goes to high school. As for my 2 step daughters, thats a whole other story.

and that would be another reason I teach my kids at home! I need these little reminders every once in a while when I get tired or I have hard day trying to teach them.

Teaching kids at home is no guarantee. I had a few former students that came to school from home-schooling that were quite a handful despite.
Pamela - put the fear into him while you can. You only have one chance to make him realize how much hell he'll get for this! If he feels like he's getting off with just a slap on the wrist, he'll have no reason not to do it again. Sorry you had to get a call like that!

I like ouchy's idea of letting him see what the dopies look like but the fact is no teenager is going to believe that will happen to them. My little brother's and sisters all do pot and think its perfectly okay. They can't get jobs becuase they fail the pee test, but it doesn't affect them? Dorks! and yeah, no one is guaranteed success in raising kids that's for sure!! Your best hope is that he realizes that it will ruin his life.

oh, and you should call the police... at least down here they take it very serious and can get you some moral help if nothing else.

My mom has had to go through this a lot! She has raised six adopted kids after her first three biological. They just call the sherriff now and let the kids go to juvinelle detiention. Otheriwse they ignore whatever you tell them because they aren't scared enough.

If it helps, when I was a kid, my cousin and I got caught stealing a tube of lipstick. (To illustrate how much of an influence my cousin had over me, I didn't even start WEARING lipstick until my 20s, so why the hell I'd want to steal it still baffles me!) My parents (who were divorced and avoided each other) set up a meeting to 'talk' about it and my punishment. I knew it was serious. My punishment? 100 hours of 'community service' (as in hours of work around the house)! 100 hours! For months, I had to record how long it took to do chores, and let me tell you, they came up with some dandies for me to do. To be honest, I don't think I ever completed the 100 hours, but it did the trick...

Well, to let him know he's not getting a "slap on the wrist", i made him clean out his entire room. Stripped it down to nothing but his bed and dressers. I took away his cell phone, his ipod touch, his PS3, his computer, his tv and satelite. As for calling the cops, around here they dont do much for situations like that unfortunately. Im making him do volunteer work at the thrift store and food bank in the next town over until he can go back to school. He thought that was ok cuz where i live, a kid needs 50 hours of community service service before he can graduate from high school. Haha....there is no way his punishment is going to benefit him. I told him this will be outside his regular community Service he needs for school.
