Very true that pain isn't a primary indicator of ovulation bc as described above, it can be weeks before ovulation even happens.

Yeah, Olsenka I was talking about tracking ovaulation too... I was told that exactly fifteen days after your ovualtion your period would start. So I would watch ovulation and then wait for that magic day. It never really worked. I believe are bodies are a lot more random then we give it credit for. I got sucked into the whole natural method, watching your cervical fluid and charting. I had this fancy chart and stickers to mark everything on. It just never really charted like they said it would. Like I said earlier, I don't think everyone lines up to the 'normal'... Oh and you have mentioned the pull and pray a couple of times. In case anyone thinks its a great thing to try... remember there is always a small amount of semen going in with the initial thrust. It doesn't all wait for the big bang so to speak. That amount helps to provide lubrication and is more then plenty to get you pregnant so nobody try this method. Its a really good way to get knocked up on accident. ;-)

I'm with you - I don't think there's a real 'normal', everyone is different, but for most women, taking your daily temp can tell you with certainty if you in fact did ovulate, and watching your cervical fluid can give you some strong indicators as to when that's coming. I think there's a statistic out there that maybe 5% or 10% of the female population have difficulties pinpointing ovulation by tracking daily temps for whatever reason. I know my cycle is far from typical, and it took me a few months to really figure out what's 'normal' for me, and it still changes from month to month, but I have a much better understanding of it now and what all the subtleties are.
Anyway, my whole point to all of this is that if it weren't for Ouchy telling everyone under the sun to read TCOYF, I wouldn't know all these ins and outs of my cycle. I encourage ALL women to learn more about what their body does and why! I know temping certainly isn't for everyone, but knowledge is power!
And as for the pull-and-pray, trust me - I know! Super paranoid, remember? A good friend of mine is on the verge of a divorce and still sees no problem with p&p and I cringe every time I hear that she's still relying on that!

Pull&Pray... hmmmm. Sounds like some weird, adult kind of thing you'd do with PlayDoh, doesn't it? lol
