Girls, read TCOYF and start tracking your cycles so you know if you need to freak out or not! Seriously, there's a whole chapter in the book on how to use your fertility signals to AVOID pregnancy! I've been tracking my cycles for a few months now and I haven't gotten a scare since, but I think that probably has more to do with lack of action more than anything.

Your funny, you can track all you want but the fact still remains that when we are ovulating we are also sexually peaked and 'avoiding' sex when you really want it doesn't usuallly happen. Hence the monthly scare! LOL

Ovulation usually ups my pain, so that's my deterrent at least!! But, no, seriously, no need to necessarily avoid sex then, just use another form of BC during that time. Know it's not easy for everyone to do, but it's a bit more reassuring than the pull-and-pray all the time. Since I'm one to freak out about that kind of stuff, tracking will at least let me know if I SHOULD freak out or not, because I'll know if I ovulated late or not, thus delaying my period. I know it's not for everyone.
I'm laughing about the flip side of things... I'm picturing a guy checking off a chart saying 'yup, I ejaculated today'. That chart would look like a pen exploded...

This one's tied with ouchy's "I'm putting something bitter on my nipples, tonight" in Sunshine's All Time Favorite Message Board Posts, Evar. LMFAO.

I do track my periods and watch my ovulation but that doesn't always prevent against things. I really doubt I'm pregnant tho. Looking thru my chart it looks like its around the time when my period skips out for a month or two and then comes back to a regular cycle. Its odd to because i had the horrible ovulation pain like i normally do.. oh well.. bodies are just weird like that.. at least mine is.

Ugh, I feel you on the ovulation pain. HOLY CRAP, sometimes, it's as bad as day 1 or 2 of the cycle. Crossing mah fingahs that you're not preggers, and that you find some pain relief.

Bitter nipples BWAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!! I do kinda track my ovulation, I know the estimated day and we'll use an alternative BC method on day before the anticipated date. Then I know when I'm ovulating because I'm in intense pain. Ovulation is way more painful for me than a period so it's very easy for me to know I'm ovulating. Actually probably TMI but I ovulated today! WOO HOO!! HAHAHAH which means I'm extra ravenous today. hehheeheh.....must.... avoid.... the... bare.... ... hmmmm

Sperm can live for 5 days in fertile fluid. I got pregnant w/ 4-day-old sperm.

I think if Im right the time sperm lives for go down with the womens age and number of 'eggy' days she has.
They go from 4-5 during your 20's to 2-3 in your late 30's.
(I could be totally wrong just have that stuck in my head!!)
LMAO about the pen explosion... too funny!!!

DAMN what are you feeding your husband?!?! I thought it was 3 days! Yup. That's what our high school biology book said! But the newer stuff says 3-5 days in fertile fluid. It depends on the woman's quality of cervical fluid. I thought I had crap fluid...but apparently NOT! HA! It also survived a trans-atlantic flight. LOL! Basically, we had sex in North America a few days before a flight, I ovulated somewhere over the Atlantic, temp. went up the next day, and bubs implanted in Asia. HAHAHAHAH!

My dear olsenka, Its probably a very good thing that you don't have a boyfriend to experiment with. There is no guarantee with 'alternative bc's". I had three pregnancies with two different kinds of Condoms'. I have a lovely niece and another nephew all with the use of condoms. They are pretty much a total gamble. The only gurantee against worry with sex is celibicy. No amount of watching your cycles will change that worry. Trust me on this!! LOL I have way to much first hand experience. Even after the hubby got snipped I still freaked out watching my cycles and when there was a late one.

Once, I got pregnant THE DAY after my cycle stopped. I should've known that something was up, when I didn't have enough beers to make me hurl 15 times in 13 hours, the next day. Which is at least a week before I was supposed to technically ovulate. I'd started mentally tracking it, by then, and it was supposed to be on day 12, not day 6, lawl.

Karla - I know condoms aren't foolproof - and my gosh you are a very good example of that. Holy crap! If people are using the pull-n-pray method, you have to admit throwing on a condom when you're most fertile can't make the situation worse. That was my point. I'm all about multiple forms and have a BC prescription waiting for me should I need it as I'm one to be quite paranoid! I'm a control freak, remember? So no worries about me! To clarify, I'm talking about tracking OVULATION, not just tracking when your period starts. Before I started tracking my cycles, I THOUGHT I had ovulation pain as it was typically is the worst around day 14-15, but it turns out I typically ovulate around day 22 or so, so I get the worst of the pain a good week or so before I actually ovulate. Last month, my period was over a week late. BUT, I knew that I ovulated over a week late, so I KNEW up front that my period would be over a week late. When you ovulate, you either get pregnant or you get your period within so many days. The time between ovulation and getting your period (luteal phase) is usually about 12-14 days (although it's less for some women, including myself), and that amount doesn't typically fluctuate that much from month to month. So, if you know when you ovulate, either on time or late, and you know how long your luteal phase typically is, you can count ahead and estimate when you're going to get your period. And THEN if it's late from THAT date, start to worry.
