Good morning all,
I just watched Oprah's new show with Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil and Suze Orman. Dr Oz talked a bit about calcium/magnesium. He said that the ratio of magnesium to calcium should be 1:2. Example: 250 mg of magensium and 500 mg of calcium.
I'm going to start looking into a calcium supplement. I've seen lots of calcium/magnesium combo's, but the magnesium is "magnesium oxide".

I was prescribed liquid magnesium to take every day. 10ml in water 3 times a day. I'm only taking twice a day as I don't want to overdo it, particularly in work, but I'm finding it's working already! It causes some discomfort right after taking but I have been having a BM almost straight away. It's really helping with the pain. Just thought I'd share

I love magnesium. It's been my go to for cramps/constipation/muscle pain many a times! I like Peter Gillum's Natural Calm. You put the powder in warm water and drink it like a tea. It comes in lemon or raspberry flavor...so yummy and comforting!

I take Natural Calm as well and love it. I am aware of the fact that you need to balance out between calcium and magnesium. I tend to be more deficient in magnesium though so a couple times a week I have a different product by the guy that makes Natural Calm called "Calm PLUS Calcium". You can do an Internet search for Peter Gilliam as he has a number of good magnesium options other than the above.

I really am loving the effects. The difference I feel with my bowel emptying at least once a day (even if it's very loose and still painful) is brilliant. I do seem to have lot more gas though and I burp more!!!! I didn't realise quite how constipated I was all the time, but I'm so much more comfortable at the moment, really helping

The Miraculous Magnesium---
There’s that word “balance” again. I more than likely will throw that word out in anything that I write. Too far to one side and you fall short….too far to the other side and you wind up in excess. Either way, you are out of balance.
One of the many contributing factors to staying balanced is to make sure that you are receiving the proper amount of electrolytes and minerals intra and extracellularly. It’s not enough just to drink water. These days, our water is so depleted and energetically it’s flat. So nine times out of ten, if you are drinking base water, you are more than likely going to just urinate it out. Why? Because your body, your intestinal tract, is not absorbing it. So it flushes straight through your kidneys and out your system…..basically leaving you dehydrated.
One of the most effective ways to ensure that you are getting adequate hydration through your water is to add some electrolytes to it in the form of lemon and sea salt. The combination of the two will spark your cells into an osmotic state. The sea salt will not bloat you…in fact, sodium follows water. So the more water you drink, the more you will urinate and the more of the sodium will be flushed out. It’s rather a fascinating concept.
Magnesium salts attract water into the intestines. Specifically magnesium citrate, a highly absorbable form of Mg+, is most effective. If you are one that struggles with constipation and IBS issues, this can be a most productive way to increase peristalsis and encourage bowel movements. Taken at night with water, or I personally like to have it with my hot tea and lemon, will make you very happy in the morning.
Magnesium deficiencies are not only limited to bowel issues though. If you struggle with any of the following physical issues, you may also want to consider increasing your magnesium consumption. But don’t be mistaken. Just eating foods with more magnesium is not necessarily the answer. Our soils are so depleted these days that we are not getting the proper amount of minerals from our foods. So in this instance, I’m all about supplementing.
Signs and Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency:
Constipation Irritable Bowel Syndrome Asthma Attention Deficit Disorder Diabetes Heart Disease Insomnia Muscle Cramps Depression Menopause Migraines PMS Stroke Anxiety Muscles Weakness Osteoporosis
If you look at the list above, most of these S/Ss are related to tension in the body. Magnesium helps to relax that tension and put the body at ease.
Recommendations for magnesium vary from individual to individual. Always start off with a lower dosage. Increase slowly. Keep increasing until you are having 2-3 comfortable bowel movements a day. Anything more than that, or if you develop diarrhea, back off until you discover the dosage that works for you. Some require more, some less.
To your health!!
Naturally Calm is one of the best and highest quality supplemental forms of Mg+. You can also get the NSI brand from Vitacost which is identical. This one also comes in individual packets for traveling. Or you can take pill form. Just be sure it's citrate.

Thanks for posting, Jenaya! I've been adding some sea salt to water - just a splash - every few days - and it seems to help a bit. I realized lately my muscles have been cramping up a bit and I've been constipated, so I placed an order for magnesium/calcium and hope that'll even things out for me. Magnesium is so important for SO many things. Thanks for reviving this thread!
