Hi there, Have you ever used magnesium malate as part of a supplement programme to treat endometriosis (as recommended by Dian Shepperson Mills)? I'm on a prescribed range of supplements and for various reasons have a gap in my supply of magnesium malate. Instead of stopping it suddenly (going from three capsules a day to none) I tailored it down from 3 a day to 1 a day and have been on none for a week, while I await more. I don't know whether this is coincidence, but in the last 5 days have been very weepy and miserable . D also stopped my zinc methionine 10 days ago (as I'm on enough zinc from other sources). I guess I'll only know if it's related to the drop in magnesium levels when I start the supplement again . Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Puddleduck- I've often used a magnesium supplement at night to help me sleep, but I've never taken it on a regular basis. It's called Natural Calm and you drink it as somewhat of a "tea" in the evenings. I'm not sure if that's the along the lines of what you're using. But no, I've never been weepy or depressed from it, just regular And boy is it a great natural sleeping remedy! Puts me right out 15 minutes after drinking it!

Hi Italialynn,
It's since I've stopped it that the problem has started.
Glad it has been helping you.

New doc suggested I take magnesium supplements (I already am), and suggested that I up my dose when I have a bad period. I'll try that next time.

Anyone here try Magnesium Oil? I used to take it a while back for migraines (along with Vit. B2). I wasn't sure if it actually worked so after 6 mo's I stopped.
However, for the last 2 weeks, we've had this awful weather system hanging over Hawaii and we've had really yuckky overcast days that have caused me to have these super-headaches that no meds can touch. (No, I haven't been to the ER for them as I can still muddle thru my day.)
So, I started taking magnesium supplements twice a day and *voila*! No more headaches!
Now, magnesium is supposed to be good for other types of pain, so I'm staying on the supplement to see if it helps with my upcoming period pain. (I'll let you know. {crossing fingers}) But... my reading says that the topical magnesium absorbs betters and I was just wondering if anyone here is trying/has tried magnesium oil??

Quick question - I have my magnesium now and they 250mg tablets. It says to take one a day, but as I am taking it to help with muscle relaxing and bowel problems etc. What sort of amount do you guys take as I think I may need to take more to see results?

Prob best to ask a pharmacist doll (seeing as your GP is a doofus) or with it being a vitamin it may take a while to take effect.

I have a Readers Digest book on vits and supplements, I'll see what it says. GDA's are sometimes on the lower side, different health requirements have different needs really, but don't take more than what is says until a medical professional confirms you can. I'll get back to you.

gemstone- I was taking 250 mg magnesium oxide pills for my migraines and potentially for period pain. Then I read that magnesium oxide isn't as readily absorbed by the body so I switched and am now taking a powder called Natural Calm. It's magnesium citrate (more bio-available to the body).
2 rounded teaspoons = 325 mg of magnesium
Now, magnesium citrate *can* cause loose stools in some people, so I've started out with a lower dose and am slowly increasing. So far, I am seeing no problems with "#2".
Natural Calm is a powder that you mix with warm (or cold) water and drink it like tea. Which is great for me because I usually enjoy a cup of herbal tea in the evenings anyways! And after a nice hot bath, the hot Natural Calm makes me nice and sleepy.
I've been having pretty good success with the magnesium and vitamin B2 supplementation. My headaches have reduced quite a bit and period just started this morning and so far, so good! Still have pain, but not *crazy*.
PS - I got the Natural Calm powder at Whole Foods. About $20 for 8 oz. (Which should last 7-10 weeks, according to the bottle.)
PPS- If you try this stuff, buy the Raspberry-Lemon flavor. I hear the plain flavor is kinda yuck.

Thanks Fish for the advice I'll take a look into it - I'm in the UK but I'm guessing we have an equivalent or similar product, I'll go look...yep we do! It's pretty much the same price as the magnesium I just bought. I'll do some research into the benefits of that for me. Thanks

Don't quote me as I don't have my sources in front of me, but magnesium and calcuim are often put together in supplements as they are better used by the body that way. I believe I heard calcium can have a constipating effect, and magnesium can have a loosening effect, and in the right ratio, they can work beautifully together for a happy medium. Here's an article that fascinated me a while ago. It's been a while since I read it, but perhaps it can be useful to you. www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/magnesium-the-most-powerf_b_425499.html
