Did anyone hear from their doctor that they didn't need a dye test as well as a lap because the dr could check tubal patency through sight during the lap?
That's what I was told although I would've preferred the test anyway.

I went w/ one of my friends to her reproductive endocrinologist appointment, and he told her that even though she had a lap, that doesn't show that your tubes are open and clear on the inside--you can only see the outside of the tubes during the lap. She still had to get the dye test to tell for sure.

See, that's what I think - it just makes sense. It makes it kind of frustrating ttc when I don't even know for sure if my tubes are open!!!!
2 different drs told me that though - it's weird.

totally off topic - but is chlamydia bacterial?

Yup. Chlamydia is bacterial and is one of the number one causes (if not THE number one cause) of scarred tubes.

Copied/pasted from the CDC website:
"In women, untreated infection can spread into the uterus or fallopian tubes and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). This happens in up to 40 percent of women with untreated chlamydia. PID can cause permanent damage to the fallopian tubes, uterus, and surrounding tissues. The damage can lead to chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus). Women infected with chlamydia are up to five times more likely to become infected with HIV, if exposed."

But if you haven't had an STD (and have been screened for them), and you haven't experienced infertility (or haven't been trying to get pregnant yet), you probably don't have to bother with getting the dye test done. However, just by having a lap (without the dye test), you won't know whether or not your tubes are patent.

Sorry about your ex giving you that. One of my friends caught it from her husband while she was pregnant. At least you were proactive and got treatment! Chlamydia is one of the most silent infections, from what I have read, and TONS of people have it and don't know bc most people have no symptoms at all...until the damage is done. A lot of people think STD's are dirty. They're just bacteria/viruses that happen to be transmitted sexually. No one looks at us strangely if we catch a cold or strep throat from someone! I think if there were less stigma associated w/ STD's, we'd have a lot more testing and treatment happening! I wish you the best of luck w/ your dye test!

Hi there, During my first lap I also had a hysteroscopy with dye test. I specifically requested the dye test (not that I'm trying to conceive right now) to make sure my tubes weren't blocked. I didn't leak any blue dye afterwards, since it had mostly run through into the pelvic cavity! (which I saw on the pictures). It won't make you pee blue because it's not going through the urethra into the bladder. ;D They will put a pad under you when you wake up. Then you might be able to get paper disposable knickers to put on so you feel more secure. From what I've read, tubal patency (i.e. unblocked tubes) is not the most important indicator fertility. Part of it (as well as healthy ovaries) also depends on the insides of the tube (the tiny hair-like structures) which help to carry an egg along and also on the hormonal/biological environment inside. You might want to discuss all this with your gynaecologist. All the best, Puddleduck
