I was having heavy, painful, and unpredictable periods. I was also have constant pain (written in other posts so I won't repeat here). My doctor performed an endometrial ablation which is the removal of my uterine lining. I will probably never have a period after this procedure or if I do, it will be very light. I have not seen this referenced in any of the posts here. I was wondering if anyone else has had this procedure and curious to see if it has helped with endo.

I recently had a laparoscopy for endometrioma and the consultant did discuss the possibility of endometrial ablation whilst i was in theatre. However because he diagnosed stage 4 endo he was unable to do this. Possibility of haemorhage.

My friends dr told her it was 5 years with no period and not being able to get pregnant, that you still could 5 years later.

Can anyone advise me on what I had done... I had a lap 4 days ago and endo was found on left ovary, pelvis and my right ovary was attached to my bowel. The doctor said she removed it all and flushed my tubes. She said she used a new method of ablation which was ultra sound. No information on the internet seems to be available about this method....WHAT DID SHE DO? I'm going back for post op appt on monday and I'll ask all questions then but until then I was hoping someone might be able to advise me....thanks ever so much

I had an ablation and all it did is scar up the uterus so much that the retrograde mens. became much, much worse. Don't mean to scare/confuse you...I have no way to know if the dr. screwed it up or what.

I had an ablation, too. And I never quit having periods. It was pretty much a waste of time.

;D I had it done 3 years ago. I have not had a period since. I also did not have pain until just recently. The endo. has come back, but I am scheduled to have another lap. in 2 weeks. It was the best thing I have ever done. NO PERIOD ROCKS! I had stage III+ endo.
As a side note - I just finished up a bout with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It is tied directly to endo. Keep an eye out ladies and make sure you get checked!

Michelle,
You mentioned you have/had "non-Hodgkin's lymphoma" and that it is directly tied to endo. How is this so?
I'm curious because my doctor (gp) is concerned that I could have lymphoma based on some swollen lymph nodes.

I've read that it is slightly MORE COMMON in women with endometriosis, but endometriosis does not CAUSE it.

There are several types of cancer that are more common in women with endometriosis, and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is one of them. The link between cancer and endometriosis is still being investigated, but there are a couple evident reasons why we are more susceptible to cancer tahn other people. The big reason is that our immune systems don't work right. Our natural killer cells, which are part of the immune system, are supposed to clean up cells that are where they aren't supposed to be. Our NK cells, for whatever reason, are a bit lazy about this. They should be munching up the endometrial cells that are sitting out oustide of our uteruses, but they aren't. Consqeuently, when cancerous cells start growing, they don't munch those up either. Another connection is that women with endometriosis tend to be more chemically sensitive than other people, so chemicals that can cause cancer are more likely to do it to us than they are to other people. Every time you microwave food in a plastic container, breathe in second-hand smoke, use shampoo containing dubious chemicals, etc, you are increasing your cancer risk by just a little bit. For most people that little bit is not enough, but these things have a bigger effect on us than they do on most people. Therefore, we have to watch out. If you have swollen lymph nodes, I'd want them checked out. Non-Hogkins lymphoma can be taken care of if it's caught early enough.

Wow that's scary about the endo making us more susceptable to getting cancer. I never heard that before. Can you tell me where you read that information? Also I am scheduled to have an endometrial abilation called Novasure next month. I am 47 have had endo since I was 16. It has been under control for the last 20 years using the BC pill but the last year or so the pill has stopped working and my periods are heavy and very long lasting. My Dr. feels the Novasure will be the answer but I know there is no guarantee so it might just be a waste of my money and time. I guess I feel I at least have to try it since I am trying to avoid a Hysterectomy. Has anybody had the Novasure and had good results? Thanks

Most of the information I've read about endometriosis and cancer was in a book called Endometriosis: The Complete Reference for Taking Charge of your Health by Mary Lou Ballweg. It has a whole chapter on the cancer connection and things you can do, so I really recommend it.

Searched for this everywhere... found a few different posts, but none that were a solid thread on ablation itself. I may be mistaken... as I am clearly no wiz at searching for threads.
Just wondering if anyone's had it, considered it, know someone who got it, thought about it, or hates it!
I'm REALLY considering it... my OB says that it'll definitely help prevent endo reoccurence. Seeing as though I'm done having kids... and have my tubes tied. I'm thinking... why not. Still all the usual hormones... no pills or rings or thingamajigs to fuss with. No periods... no endo... sounds like a fantastic thing!

(Found one! It's an older one, but might be useful. I think there are more out there, but this is a start!)
