This website is one of my absolute FAVS! You may have already seen this, as I posted it for someone else earlier. It's true a lot of her recipes have sugar, but a lot of her readers wants substitutes and use xylitol sometimes. In addition, there are many main dishes, side dishes, and appetizers that that GF, dairy free, sugar free, and even vegan. I am still learning how to post links correctly, so I apologize if it's not done right. Hope you can get some ideas from this. realsustenance.com. Enjoy !

I'm doing ok. I survived being at my dad's place even though he is very unhealthy. I had to come home early though because the water over there makes me sick and my surgery scars started opening again. I've stuck with the diet, but I am having a lot of pain on my ride side and am having some bowel issues. Maybe I should cut down on the fiber? I drink a lot of water, but that hasn't helped. I have been eating a lot of curry and Filipino dishes. I also baked a bar that I brought to my potluck. It had banana, peanut butter, almond milk, shredded coconut, honey, and ground up oatmeal. It was really good. To satisfy my sweet tooth, I made some chocolate from this recipe. chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2012/01/15/three-ingredient-chocolate-bars-1/It is just cocoa, stevia (I used xylitol or maple syrup), and coconut oil. I put in shredded coconut and peppermint, peanut butter, and sugar free raspberry jam as fillings and put it in the freezer in a little egg shaped candy molds. Thanks for the link Liliegazer!

Glad you stuck it out at your Dad's!
As for your new pain and bowel issues, it could possibly be your body's way of detoxing. I typically get really bloated and constipated the first week... Or, it could be something that you're eating a lot more of now that you didn't before and it's causing a reaction. Can you pinpoint it? Does it feel different at different times of the day? Are you close to your period, or has it been a long time since you had one? Do you think it's even related to diet at all, or just random?

Oh, I meant to add, I had a dinner party tonight. A friend is interested in doing a full Whole30 and was having a hard time wrapping her head around it, so I invited her over for dinner and two other friends. It's funny - the 3 of us totally get food & health (one actually works for the doctor that developed the digestive enzymes I take) and I think it was totally cool for the other friend to hear all of our perspectives and experiences regarding changing the way we eat. Here's what I made (and it was all a hit) - mixed greens w/beets, walnuts, and a homemade balsamic vinegar dressing - carrots with olive oil and balsamic vinegar - this chicken. It was a TOTAL hit and super easy. www.skinnytaste.com/2010/11/filipino-adobo-chicken.html (I subbed coconut aminos for the soy sauce) - dessert was whipped coconut milk (couldn't quite get the consistency of whipped cream, but close!) over mixed berries and toasted coconut chips. Fab meal, fab company, and NO yucky stuff. Oh, and I was traveling for work today and went to a steakhouse for lunch. I got an awesome burger (sans bun and cheese) and some steamed veggies w/o butter on the side instead of fries. The restaurant was totally accommodating and the burger was cooked perfectly. Mmm mm mmm.

I'm very frustrated. I was on a good streak for a while but today I wake up to my husband cooking gluten-free pancakes (made with eggs, milk, and butter) and apparently he went to the grocery store before I woke up and bought some natural/organic $20 freaking pure maple syrup for me so that I would be happy. I know he meant well and I am thankful for that because it was a sweet gesture. But AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just don't get it! He knows I don't eat like this anymore! So to spare his feelings I ate the pancakes drenched in syrup and now I'm totally paying for it with a huge stomach ache and feeling really drowsy. Oh well. It's rare he does stuff like this so I should just deal with being sick right? I might actually vomit because my stomach is so freaked out right now. At least they tasted good and he seems pleased that he did something nice for me. Sigh.

Jenaya - it wouldn't have been so bad if you didn't feel so yucky after it! I hope you're feeling better now.
I'm on day 23. Already. I'm not even really thinking about it at this point. Clothes are totally fitting better, I'm not starving at the end of the day, and I only had one painful day of my period (yesterday). Today the flow is still heavy but the pain isn't more than a 1-2. I'll take it!
How's everyone else doing?

I'm surviving with the diet, but I think since my pain is getting worse adhesions and scar tissue are forming. My diet has not really changed since I mainly eat foods that I have always eaten. I just cut out all the bad stuff like bread, sugar, etc. so I think the pain is most likely from the adhesions. I made an appointment with Dr. M about a month ago when I started getting random pains, but I don't get to see her until Halloween. Karen, I'm glad you made adobo! I usually have it about once a week since it is a Filipino staple. I can make mine in my pressure/rice cooker really fast (about 30 minutes).
I'm really liking baked/boiled sweet potatoes right now, but want to find the Asian kind (it's whitish-yellow) because they are not as heavy as the American kind. I just eat them plain with nothing on them. I don't really get why people put so much sugar on them when they are already sweet.

Ah, got it. Pain sucks, but I'm glad you don't think it's because of your diet. I'm on a forum for the Whole30 and lots of people say their symptoms get worse before they get better so something to consider. I hope Dr. M. can help you out. And, yes, that adobo chicken was amazing! It got such rave reviews and will definitely be a staple in my kitchen now. I just started to get into sweet potatoes in the past few months. They're supposed to be excellent for energy - a good, starchy carb. On the Whole30 forum, if people are feeling sluggish or PMS-y, lots of people will recommend more sweet potato. I've been throwing shredded s.p. into a ground beef/onion hash and making baked s.p. fries with chili seasoning & oil. Yummy! I was at work today wondering what to do with the end of my 30 day experiment. I think I'm going to stick a lot closer to it when I'm done this time around. My body looks totally different even though I haven't lost much weight this time around, my clothes are fitting a lot looser, and I don't have cravings / times of the day when I'm starving. I've always eaten pretty clean at home (well, at least for the last 2-3 years), but eating out and drinking always kills me. I think I'm going to change that, at least most of the time going forward.

I have always loved sweet potatoes. They have lots of iron too and other necessary things. I bake them in slices with old bay or cinnamon or just bake them whole and eat w salt or blackstrap molasses. Though I guess molasses doesn't fit the diet...

Awesome! How so? How's everyone else?
I'm wrapping up my Whole 30 tomorrow. I dropped another 5 0pounds, which brings me to a total of 28 pounds lost since March. I haven't weighed this amount in 2 years, but my measurements are even smaller than 2 years ago... I now fit into pants I haven't been able to wear in 5 years! Still have a ways to go, but I'm happy.

WOW Karen that is awsome you should pat yourself on the back I know how hard that is. I lost 80 pounds 2 years ago and never felt better. Unfortunately I put alot back. I am so happy for you. No better feeling then putting something on and its big.
The one thing I always have a problem with is work I pick on crap all day. I have been bringing raw vegetables to work to pick on and bringing lunch and dinner instead of ordering in with everyone. It has made it so much easier to stay on track. I am so glad you started this bc I had cut down but not changed everything and if I did not do the challenge I would not have seen what a real difference it makes. Thanks again for starting this ;D
