Yeppp, not until 2014. My insurance is refusing to pay for my first endo surgery, because they say it was for a pre-existing condition, even though it technically wasn't!! (ovarian cysts are my pre existing condition, but the lap was for diagnosing endo. Also, every female produces ovarian cysts, so how is it even possible for them to put that as a pre existing condition???!! So ridiculous!!)
Anyway, good luck with your surgery! I'm really excited for you that you get to go to him, and that you have parents awesome enough to help you get the best care!!

One more week till I leave for Bend! I've been up and down emotionally about my surgery, but mostly I've gotten to a place where I am looking forward to putting this all behind me. Kristen I didn't really know how bad my endo had gotten until I wrote my letter to Dr. Redwine and he responded. It was another bitter pill for me to swallow, but my symptoms have gotten so severe in the past few months that I know having surgery with a specialist is the right decision for me. There's a possibility that since my endo on my bowel has never been treated that the endo has invaded through my bowel wall. That's why I'm doing a bowel prep before surgery and am expecting to have a bowel resection. I've done so much for myself in order for my body to better cope with endo, but it's gotten to the point where I feel like I need to have excision surgery with someone who really knows what they are doing. I feel so blessed that I get to see Dr. Redwine. I've been researching him since I got diagnosed. I told Kate at his office that it's almost like meeting a celebrity for me. She laughed. Once my surgery is over I plan on continuing with my diet and supplements. I'm hoping with getting the endo out of my body I'll be better able to participate in my life and all the things I want to do. I'm sure it won't be easy, but I think it will be very well worth it.

We're all hoping you'll be able to participate more in your life, too, after the surgery! You deserve that. I certainly think this is a step in the right direction for you that will leave you with a much more tolerable baseline. I hope the next week goes by quickly!

I am so excited for you! Where else would you find a group of girls excited for a surgery? lol I think this is a great choice you're making. He seems like he really does a great surgery and I really feel like you can only get better after having this lap.

I'm so excited for you Nicolle!!!! I wish I could escape school and work to be there But the hospital you're going to is GREAT and so are the people! EVERYONE is so nice. Oh, and I'll cross my fingers for you that you'll get the sexy anesthesiologist. He was funny, sweet, and a total hunk! Unfortunately he's married.. grr.. but on the plus side, I'm pretty sure I remember him announcing to me that his wife's name was Jessica! Or maybe that was the drugs and a little bit of wishful thinking..? Anyway, before I forget, some reminders: -Bend is COLD. Be sure your mom is equipped after your surgery with blankets to wrap you up in before they wheel you out to the car, because it might be freeeezing! -The roads in Bend are CRAPPY. Let your mom know beforehand that your friend Jess who lives there warned you and that she should be careful to drive as slowwwwly as she can and to warn you when she sees bumps or railroad crossings. I remember after my surgery that part wasn't very fun, but it wasn't totally miserable either. It just killed when my dad flew over bumps or train tracks without slowing down or giving me a heads up. Haha. -Order a chocolate milkshake at the hospital. THEY TASTE SO GOOD.

Paint, have you done a bowel prep before? If you need any tips, let me know. Jess, what great tips! On the bumpy roads, I had a bumpy ride home from my 1st surgery but I had a small travel pillow tucked under the seat belt, which helped a bit.

Thanks again for the tips Jess. I let my Mom know. I'm going to bring a few blankets with me just in case and my stuffed animal because I'm a baby like that. If I have to stay overnight in the hospital I want a few familiar things around me. I've never stayed the night at a hospital before.
I did a bowel prep last April semi for a colonscopy/endoscopy. I'm always up for tips though. The biggest thing that helped me last time was sucking on lemons. That was my Mom's idea and boy did it help!

When I stayed in the hospital for my pancreatic surgery I had my pillow pet and my own pillow to sleep with so I could feel comfortable. Sometimes even bringing pictures of your cat or something comforting helps too. BTW, bowel preps are so funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

I sleep with a stuffed animal too hahaaaha. BOWEL PREP -- that sh*t tastes DISGUSTING. What saved my life was when my mom and I figured out that you could mix it with ginger ale, because you're allowed to have clear liquids. I had the lemon flavored mixture of Halflytely. It's pretty darn gross because no matter how cold you get it, it still never seems to get cold, it's like gasoline in texture almost... like a weird, lukewarm, plastic-y sludge.. blegh. But what my mom and I started doing was mixing it with ginger ale, it helped to adjust the texture, temperature, AND flavor enough to be relatively palatable! Also, I used a big straw to suck it down because 1. it helps you drink it faster and 2. it makes it so that it doesn't go all over your mouth -- just straight down your throat!

Jess those tips were hilarious. I hate bumps, in any case; they kill me, even not post surgery. When do you leave for Bend, Nicolle?

I leave for Bend on Saturday Kristin. My Mom and I are flying out of Denver in the evening so we won't get to Bend till later Saturday night. Got all my paperwork from Dr. Redwine this afternoon that I have to fill out. My pre op apt is scheduled at 10:45 Monday morning. After that I'll go back to the cottage with my Mom and start my bowel prep. Oh boy! You girls crack me up with bowel prep tips. I wouldn't want to discuss bowel preps with anyone else.

the diaper rash stuff works well too--is it zinc something or other?--but since babies have to wallow in their own sh*t till someone changes their diaper, there are some pretty good products for dealing with too much sh*t.
Thinking of you so much, Paint. SOunds like you are really well organized.
