Hi guys, have been on my period for 3 weeks now, bleeding heavily and my stomach looks like I'm in my first trimester or something. It's just swollen I think it may be the internal bleeding. Just wondering if there's anything that's worked for you to stop the bleeding and help recovery from the loss of iron etc I've been eating plenty of spinach and tuna, to make up for some iron loss. I'm just feeling very tired and light headed, and having my tummy like this is annoying me a lot! Any help please xx

Cherry, go get your hormones checked! Bleeding for that long is not normal. Sounds like you are eating some healthy things, but still, I think it should be checked out.

Yeah its just getting the time to see someone, the surgery hours are the same as my work hours! I found the tranexamic acid that stopped my 6 week long bleed last year but they're out of date so thought I'd try to do it naturally, by diet or herbal supplement. I've asked for the doctor to call me 2 times now and they haven't called back which is disappointing. I'll call again tomorrow but even though I'm back on the pill I'm edging away from medications in general xx

I dont know if this will be enough for such heavy loss, but the black cohosh has reduced the length and heaviness of mine, to the point its a normal period Thats combined with vitex though, and a variety of other things, but i really believe it was the black cohosh that made the real difference. You may need to go on strong iron supplements, mine is 5 times the recommended daily dosage. Also vit C with food helps iron absorption, can be a glass of orange juice if your over tablets.

Righto it's stopped and I don't know if it's cos of me or whether the time had come naturally, but one thing that helped was that I took treble my iron dose (one multivit, 2 iron tabs spaced out with meals through the day) and upped my vit c intake to allow max absorption. Since the flow has gone right down to the 'coming off' stages, I feel tons better. Less tired and lightheaded, less like I'm on another planet which is nice! Even if upping your iron doesn't help stop the flow, it will make you feel a little better, enough to matter at least If it happens again I'll be taking the black cohosh as you suggested kb, I was about to go get some then Aunty Flow started packing her cases and is buggering off! xx

the black cohosh will take a while to work, maybe a few months, so its not instant.

I noticed a difference in menstrual flow w/ the black cohosh the first month. I actually noticed an increase in lubrication the very next day. I guess it's different with everyone.

Oop, I knew I spoke too soon. I didn't so much stop as I did a little pause and now I carried right on again. It's really annoying me now, cos I'm back to being tired and have this crazy stitch like pain! xx

Would you have to wait long if you tried to make an appointment to have your estrogen level checked? I don't know if it would work while off of the pill (I'm assuming it would.), but when I would have breakthrough or continuous bleeding while on the pill, I'd double up on them for the extra estrogen, and it would stop it right away. My OBGYN said it was okay to do and gave me an extra pack just for that reason. If you have any extra pills left, maybe you could just ask your gyne. if you could do that if you can't get in for an appointment with your gyne?

Yeah I'm trying to get the right balance with work, so at the moment getting in to see the doctor is very difficult without needing to take a bit of time off for the appointment. I'll try doubling up then, it used to make me violently sick but it's worth a try. I'm supposed to get my blood serum check for Pernicious Anaemia but I just can't get the time right now! xx

I am yes, I think if I take the pills 12 hours apart so it's 2 per day that should work xx

I see. I didn't even realize you were on the pill. LOL. Well, as long as you've been told by your doctor before that it's okay to do. Good luck!
