I've done four total, three different versions. The one for the colonoscopy seemed worse than for my colon resection! Sadly, you just gotta go with doctor's orders. Hope it all goes well- cheers & bottoms up!

I don't recall my first bowel prep, but the last op I had was picolax 3.5 years ago. I took baby wipes and baby lotion to ease the sting of so much wiping, and instructed everyone to stay out of the house for the day. Mine was all day, a full jug in the morning then again in the afternoon. Jelly was eaten but then ditched as I lost my appetite. Peeing out your bum isn't too bad once you get past the initial stooly poops. I had an enema for my colonoscopy last year, 18 months ago to be exact. I've had bowel involvement for a long time which is recently worse in terms of actual symptoms. The enema was a gel put in by a nurse. I held it in for the twenty minutes, the urge to poop was immediate. The actual bms were agonizing, if I have diarrhoea now I get the same nasty back pain etc. I was actually grunting with pain. On the plus side it was over very quickly and I was allowed to eat til quite close to the appointment time. I guess the moral is 1. Wet wipes and a nice bum cream are a must 2. Its endo so be prepared for pain, whether you normally have discomfort with bms or not, as its a lot of disturbance down there and forcible pooping. Your body is like an icing bag squeezing everything out! 3. Stay hydrated 4. For your own sake, follow the dietary advice and in my opinion avoid anything except water as more digestible matter draws out the process 5. Not everyone is the same, even with the same endo placement/adhesions/scarring or symptoms or bowel prep/enema brand so don't be surprised or worried if yours goes differently to what you've read here 6. Take the day off and plan nothing, in case of all eventualities. I would not ever do this in work or on the move.

I took picolax for a sigmoidoscopy back in around 1993. Not a nice experience. Some great pointers there Cherry!

For my laproscopy it was literally bottoms up Had to do an enema. Gotta say it was a bit better than all the laxative treatments I had to do the previous month for constipation. The enema was a miserable 30 minutes, but at least it was over right after. Versus milk of magnesia which half the time leaves me feeling icky 6-8 hours.

I agree willow! Enema so much better than nasty prep. Last time I had to do both! LOL

I believe I have lost track of how many times I have done this but the dreaded bowel prep is tomorrow. I just got back from a long weekend of fun and bad eating... I was supposed to start eating six days prior no fruit with seeds, no whole wheat, oatmeal etc. oops... I did stay away from the corn on the cob as I don't do that on the best of days! I'm doing the Miralax/Gatorade for this one. I don't know which one I will do for the surgery yet. I have to do clear liquid diet tomorrow though and I have a preceptor shift to watch another Cesarean at 0500 am. I usually hide in the house all day and stay real low so I'm not hungry and instead I will be running back and forth at the hospital. I'm a little concerned this is going to be a BAD IDEA but I really don't have a choice. The day after the colonoscopy I have another preceptor day as well. UGH. Hell week here I come!

Looks like this is an old thread, but I'm glad it's here! My first lap is next week and the day before I'm supposed to drink magnesium citrate at 10am and 2pm, then take 2 dulcolax tablets at 6pm I think. I have no idea what to expect...what I will be able to do that day, but it sounds like I better not venture far from the toilet. Ugh!
