hunh, I thought that everyone who had a lap had a bowel prep. It was the policy at the place I did mine. I'm glad it was too! I had to have a lot of bowel work done--it was stuck to lots of things and had to be disconnected, and part of it chopped off and reconnected. They couldn't have done that if I hadn't done the bowel prep!

When I had my lap I didn't have any bowel endo but I would think it would be a good idea to have everyone do a bowel prep before a lap because you never know what you'll find when you get in there.

The magnesium citrate one wasn't as bad. I remember it didn't work as fast as the Miralax...I about bowled my husband over running to the bathroom! The MC took a couple hours to work on me and then it was like going once every 30 minutes to an hour. I recommend (don't laugh!) covering your "hole" with vaseline or hydrocortisone cream before your first movement. It tends to ward off that "hot poker in the bumhole" feeling you get from peeing out of your bum for hours Unfortuntately, I'm a pro at these! Oh. And get the lemon/lime flavored MC and chase it with sprite or ginger ale. The cherry one is NASTY!!!

Perhaps Im too late, but I JUST went through this and my GI gave me a choice of which prep. I chose the pills (relatively new to the market) and they worked very well. I ate a light meal the night before the cleanse and, of course, clears all day of the cleanse. I drank a TON of water w these pills and, so, to make that more palatable, put a few slices of cucumber in the water (and lemon if you like).... sounds weird, but I tried it at a spa and its very refreshing. I also LOVE LOVE coconut water..... this is a great hydrator and has electrolytes in it and no added sugar. Careful w the jello, no blue or red dyes (if they didnt mention that yet). will you be posting your experience w this surgeon?
Best of Luck to you

Hey thanks for the suggestions! I don't have to do this until June 28th. I love coconut water too! It's awesome. My experience with this surgeon is all in a personal thread I have been updating in the "emotional support" section. This surgery isn't endometriosis related though.

hey Jenaya I forgot to mention that I have been through this twice in the past 2 months and that the pills (light meal night before) worked MUCH better than the mag citrate did. My liquid poo was still brown the day of the surgery and so I had to do an enema (good times). W the pill, it was liquid yellow and that is optimal as per my GI doc.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have my pre op appointment on June 22 so I'll ask the surgeon what options I have.

My man experience with a bowel prep was when I was 17, before my first sigmoidoscopy. I had to have two sachets of Picolax during the day. I've tasted worse things. I was allowed poached egg on white toast for breakfast, but after that no solid food, just jelly (jello) and bovril type drinks. Yes, it was like pissing out of my arse. These things work by drawing water into the bowel, so make sure you drink plenty of water.
On a side note - I felt like I did a bowel prep last week. Before my ultrasound last Thursday I had to drink two pints of water. Within half an hour, at the end of the second pint, no sign of my bladder filling but my bowels were VERY grumbly. I went to the loo and whoosh! explosion. My bowels stole all of the water I drank! I had to go again shortly after. So I also had to quickly drink another 2 pints to make sure the test would go ahead!!

I was telling my mom about this bowel prep and how I can't take her sight seeing the day before my surgery because I'll be peeing out my butt the whole day. She kinda did that, "Aww my poor baby needs cream for her poor butt," mommy kiss the boo boos thing. I just laughed it off and forgot about it. Today I get a package in the mail and it's diaper rash cream from my mom!! HAHAHA She's so freakin cute. I'm so glad she'll be here with me for my surgery! Momma's love ;D

Don't forget wipes to go with the diaper cream! Toilet paper gets kind of rough otherwise. I don't know why they are making you do an "all day" bowel prep. It doesn't take that long really. lol
