I'm considering acupuncture. A friend of mine goes for it for her fibromyalgia, and recommends her acupuncturist highly. I also want to try some Chinese medicine as well. I figure it can only help with the symptoms, or not do anything at all, so it's worth the attempt anyways!

Had my first treatment of acupuncture this morning. I had a great nap when he left me with all the needles sticking out, I felt like a pincushion! Did anyone else feel...emotional after? Like it was destressing you by making you cry, or am I just a goof? I dunno. I felt great up until this evening and I got light headed, started crying, and my neck is killing me....Anyone else?

Had my first treatment week before last as well. It was a weird pincushion feeling and I also had to say a prayer when the pins were in just in case- the whole thing is a little spooky. My acupunturist used some "moxa" as well which had me a bit woozy when I left. It was kind of funny because I left the office feeling a little drugged and my husband through I looked like I was under some marijuana.... I was also a bit giggle because of it. No emotional feeling though. Am a bit down today because I had my first lap in November which seemed to help a little with spotting before periods and bowel pain, but those have begun returning with a vengeance this week. Am trying not to cry about it, but even my ovaries don't feel right curing sex or just normally walking around. Hope acupunture works for me because obviously surgery isn't a good long term solution! Good luck to you too - how is it going and how often are your treatments?

Tess you have a flare up from the treatment up to 48 hours after. It shows that the session has worked and is called a "healing crisis" It is a well known fact with all therapies that involve energy. I have felt hysterical when she has put the needles in. I have laughed and cried at the same time, for no reason! Its the energy flow. I have had about 20 sessions and have just had my first *completely* pain free period of my life. My PMS is getting more managable now too.

I have acupuncture regularly and have different feelings every time the needles are put in. Sometimes the needles hurt, other times not. My acupuncturist (she great and specialised in pelvic and abdominal problems) says that I hold stress in my pelvic area and so when she puts in the needles, the energy that has been blocked is suddenly released, causing the pain. It is more like a shock than a pain really.
Other times, the needles have gone in and I get a huge rush of "energy" swirling round the back of my head, making me feel dizzy! Other times, the needles go in and then I go through a period of about 2-3 minutes when I want to cry. It is strange because when i feel like I am going to cry, it is usually related to something that I am no longer sad about, I just get an overwhelming feeling about that something, cry for a couple of minutes and then it goes away and I get a wonderful sense of peace. I find it amazing and the way my body has responded to it incredible. My cycles are mostly pain free now and all that remains is the odd ovulation pain (which is also improving with each month) and sometimes a feeling of tightness - maybe adhesions? All will be revealed in my lap which is next monday and then I am going back for more acupuncture on Wednesday.

Does anyone know if accupuncture can possibly work for treating bowel related symptoms? I am referring to the symptoms associated with my bowel resection 8 weeks ago? would love some relief!

Hey Cass
I'll ask my acupuncturist tomorrow what she thinks. Have been reading a bit of your recovery diary - you have been through so much and I think you are very brave. When my bowel movements are a bit dodgy I take Noni Juice which seems to sort them out. I am sure you symptoms are alot worse than mine though so may not be right for you xx

Hey, spoke to my acupuncturist regarding bowel problems like you have described and she said it would help alot. Maybe worth trying, you have nothing to lose and it could be brilliant. Let me know how you get on if you go

I found my acupuncturist through by word of mouth but in the UK there are several regulatory bodies that good acupuncturists can belong to. The one I used is The British Acupuncture Council. Don't go to any old shop front acupuncture place, find a really good one. lso find someone you feel comfortable with. Ages ago I went to one for Insomnia and he couldn't speak any English and we had to have a translator. I didn't feel I could relate well to him so gave up. I hope you find a good one xx

Jen, I will continue here.
Yes I have ben seeing an acupuncturist since I got so feed up with my intense pelvic pain and symptoms. I thought, well I have nothing to loose by trying it.
I have found the acupucnture treatments great and like having an appointment with yourself. I have really found it great for opening accepting what was happening, grieving over the pain and loss of quality of life, and ever more determind to get my life back to a stage where I can get on and enjoy myself again. My acupuncturist also prescribed me chinese herbs in tablet form (loose herbs are the most potent). She took the view that if the tabelt form weren't strong enough, we would try something more.
My symptoms gradually began to disappear during the first three months. The deep pain in the Pouch of Douglas went, the endless cystitits improved, the tiredness went and the dreadful period pain went back to just minor muscular pain.
My view is that you should give it a go if you feel comfortable with the idea and if you feel you can commot yourself to it for a sufficient length of time. It is not a quick fix but a long term solution. You also need to find a reputable and registered practicioner who you feel that you can work with.
Good luck xx

Thanks Minnie , I know of an accupuncturist, and he has a good reputation. So, I just have to talk myself into going ahead and doing this!

I just wanted to post that I've definitely noticed an improvement in my symptoms over the last few months, culminating in my most painless period ever this month!! I never had (except for a few months last year) as much pain as many on here, but always had pain and discomfort during the first 2 days of my period. At the end of day 2 now and really no pain at all! Slight discomfort and I still took a hot water bottle to bed last night, but that was more for comfort than anything else.
I can only imagine the acupuncture has played a part here. I'm been having weekly treatments for 7 months now. I also find I have more energy than before and I'm rarely tired.
I still have experienced some tightness and draggy pains (feels like adhesions) towards the end of my period the last few months, so we'll see what happens this time.
Still not pregnant of course, but at least the lack of pain is good! My acupuncturist seems surprised I haven't got pregnant yet - she maybe doesn't realise what endo can do.....
