I'm just wondering if those of you who've had babies have found that your labour pain was different / worse than average or that your labours did not progress quickly and whether this could be attributed to endo at all?
I had a baby boy 1 week ago today - yeah!!! ;D This is after almost 3 years of trying and 1 miscarriage. So a long enough road and of course we're over the moon.
The labour didn't progress well from 1cm (I had to have a drip) and the pain was horrendous at 1cm (for 8 hours). I thought I might cope ok given that I've spent many a night rolling about in pain with endo, so I was a bit surprised to find I couldn't cope with the pain at only 1cm!!! Just wondering how other folks with endo found labour?
Thanks!
Scarlett

I was induced with Pitocin due to having "dangerously low amniotic fluid." I spent 24-hours on pitocin, and my contractions felt like a massage for about 19-hours. I wound up with an epidural just before 24-hours exactly for a c-section, but I think it all depends on the individual baby and delivery method.

8 hours is a completly normal time for first babies!! Just so you know! I had 25 with my first. 36 that ended in a ceseran with my second and my third I did VBAC with pit. drip for 12. You had a GREAT delievery. I realize its hard to look back at it and think that now... but TRUST me you did awesome!! Way to go MOM! Your amazing!! your body did do what it was supposed to do in a decent amount of time. AND yes labor is very painful... don't let any idiots tell you otherwise. I made the mistake of talking to my friend who had these short pratically painless deliveries thinking mine would go the same. (funny thing, they didn't.. LOL) GOOD JOB!!

Omaklackey! You had a VBAC! That is SO cool! I'm going to check out a hospital about an hour from here where they are common-place. There aren't many baby-friendly hospitals where I live! I love to read of successful VBACs! AND yes labor is very painful... don't let any idiots tell you otherwise. BTW, labor isn't ALWAYS painful! My contractions were off the chart, and I had NO pain medicine and was on the phone with Tess, a member here. My contractions felt like a massage in my uterus. Seriously. I did not expect that. The nurses were all in shock, too. I did hypnobirthing (again, off the chart and WITH pitocin on the highest setting they'd do here--20), and I far from consider myself an "idiot." I plan to do hypnobirthing next time around since it got me through 24 hours without drugs last time. I don't think I'll consider myself an "idiot" then, either, if I feel no pain. Also, we all have different threshholds for pain. To me, if I didn't pass out during labor, the pain wasn't as bad as my worst period, since I've passed out from period pain before, but I didn't pass out during labor. Some of us can take a lot of pain without much to say, while others are quite vocal. I never made any horrible sounds like I heard coming from other rooms. I guess that's the same with period pain and day-to-day pain. Some of us rarely complain about it, more than just a fast grumble. It's all individual. I think outlook has a lot to do with it. I went in head-strong, well-prepared with hypnobirthing and ready to go. I had techniques to shut any pain down. Seemed to work for me and quite a few others who have done hypnobirthing with whom I have spoken. Again. Not "idiots," just educated about and prepared for pain-quashing techniques.

I sure studied up on the pain squashing with a 16 week birth course and everything! Bradley method. Pain is pain. Pushing on my third baby was fun though and felt like you said... I don't think outlook has anything to do with pain since I was a freak natural birth sort of person. I was convinced you could do it naturally. Did with baby three!! It still hurts... just makes it easier to take if you know what is happening. And a small percentage of people don't have pain with birth. But ouchy if you had a c-section was it because of no progress? If so the reason it didn't hurt might be because your uterus wasn't functioning properly. It wasn't getting the job done so to speak. That's what happened with my second kiddo. Not much pain but no progress either. Nice huh? Kid three I got the pit drip and got it done in twelve hours. Delivered the baby myself just like I wanted! Minimal tears even because I could feel where it needed pressure. BUt like I said my friend had labors with minimal pain as well. Everybody is different. she didn't take a big birthing class or hypno anything. Just didn't have a problem. I say she sucks, but that is just my opionin. LOL

Or with my first kid it hurt so bad I was screaming and punched a nurse and Had no progress for 24 hours. Finally the last hour I hit 10 cent. So pain is not an indicator of progress. Oh man I'm so reliving all t he bad memories writing this down. LOL

Bradley method is different from hypnobirthing. Hypnobirthing teaches you to block the pain completely. They have even done surgeries without anesthesia and just with hypnosis. Hypnosis is very powerful.
The c-section was because her head was turned funny and she was getting a lump, plus, it had been 24 hours since they broke my water and they were scared of an infection, and I did wind up with a hospital-only acquired infection, the same bacterium that is the leading cause of neonatal meningitis. I honestly don't think I had as low fluid as they thought. There is no way she could have been moving like crazy if it were dry inside! Plus, tons gushed out when my water was broken. Ultimately, it was my decision for the c-section, the doctor would have let me go another 6-hours or so. But I was hooked up to electronic, internal monitors and all that monitored adn recorded the contractions.
At 19 hours, I got a different doctor, and she knocked me out of my hypnosis because she was a total B*tch! Then the pain got strong. She was always checking me, and I couldnt' get back into my relaxed, hypnotic state. Darn her. LOL! The pain was bad, but I didnt' pass out. If it were a period, I could have gotten through it, but breathing and trying to get my stomach to get as high as possible to maximize the contraction was too hard when that hag was always in there with her hand up me. LOL!
Two of my friends have had natural, drug-free births within 4 and 7 hours and never took a class. They didn't realize they were in labor until their waters broke, and I think that had a lot to do with it.
I think it is cool to watch animals deliver. They rarely have pain.
ETA: When the contractions started gettign painful, after I was knocked out of my hypnosis, they did feel like period pain. Also, they were 3-and-4-humped, so it was kinda' cool to see what my cramps were doing.
It would be ncie to have an epidural each month, huh. LOL

No kidding! But considering the bad reaction I had with the epidural for my c-section I would probably not like it after all. I ITCHED! Oh man it was awful. Hey Ouchy, you ever watch the scrubs with the hypno surgery? Its hilarious!!

^I itched, too!!! Narcotics do that to you. Especially morphine. UGHHH. When I had my nose and chin done, I had morphine shots several times a day for 5 days straight. I scratched my arms up realllllly badly and saw spiders coming out of the walls. I aslo tried to kick a nun. LOL

I slugged a nurse but she was a b*tch. All my other labor nurses where pretty cool but she was annoying. I believe she left shortly after. Maybe I helped. LOL
